I've been told that I can't give blood untill they have cleared a possible problem with somthink to do with my heart. Are you able to do a blood and tell is what blood type we are?

You'd have to call the 0800 number buddy, I'm not qualified to give advice, but I think I recall that they can check for your blood type, and I think they can do this when operating out of the mobile unit as well, but maybe just call to confirm:yes:
There's some comprehensive info at the website too:yes:

They'd have a half litre of my 'red gold' O- if the clumsy bitch last time hadn't rooted my veins in the process of putting the needle in, causing crap flow into the bag - then she had the audacity to blame it on me being 'not hydrated enough'. :bash:

If you go in to your 'local' NZ Blood Centre they can do a finger prick and tell you.

Snap.
I'm A+ but still have another 2 weeks before I can give blood again because it is too close to the last time.

I'm in Auckland and a regular donor. I got a call today saying they were desperately short of O+ as well and asking if I can come in, so the problem must be more widespread than just Tauranga. I wonder if they'll start testing for sswine flu ...

They can't be that desperate, or they'd let english people donate.

Right, I'm all booked in for the 2nd of July :niceone: Haven't given blood since I was in grammar school. I'm O+ so hopefully they can do some good with that.
One thing they've never seemed to pick up on (can some medically inclined person fill me in here?) is that I've got a 'negative antigen'. Don't think it makes much difference giving blood but when I ruptured my spleen and had lots of internal bleeding the hospital said it'd be hard to get blood for me because of that. Just says O+ on my donor card though, does that matter?

Cool Dude! Goooodstuff! Thankyou!
Grammar School? Where you from!?
Negative Antigen, I think I understand the concept, I won't explain the reason why, but twice I've had to have an injection of an antigen.
Because the situation wouldv'e been different, it's best if you ask the NZBlood crew, they're qualified. Google searching E-medicine is good too! Concise medical explanations!
