Boy racers ain' t all bad

Yesterday on my way home from work I was riding down the bus lane when a boy racer type car pulled up beside me and the passenger leant out the window to speak to me. Here we go I thought - they're gonna tell me how smart my bike is. But No they politely informed me the ignition keys to my bike had fallen out 200m back up the road. So I rode back up the footpath and found them in the middle of the road. Dang 18 year old ignition - you can take the keys out after you turn the ignition on. But you can't take the ignition out of the keys.

I've always hated bikes like my LS400 where the ignition is down under the seat - I much prefer to be able to glance down at the instrument panel and visually confirm the keys are still in the ignition (had a few bikes in the past with faulty ignition barrels)

My CBR250R's ignition barrel is worn to the point of the key being able to be taken out whilst it's switched on, It's a good thing, you turn ya bike on, put your keys in your pocket, and that means no keys to jingle around in front of you to distract you.

Yeah my bikes the same, I have a little plastic clip with a bit of string to prevent that happening, just a bit of a pain having to unclip it everytime you get off.

Never had a problem with the keys on mine.
Those original bars lasted just long enough for me to get from the bike shop to the bike wreckers and get a set of straight bars on though.

Hmmm, Niiiice! Maybe I'll make a set of straight bars part of the work towards getting it back on the road (right after a good second hand engine and two new tyres)

And the question arises what really is a boy racer.

I've got a 14second Honda that lowered and on 17's with dunlop formula tyres, and a couple of engine mods (standard exhaust) am I a boy racer?

I'm also a bikey, are all bikey's boy racer's.

Although this is a positive topic about "boy racers" it is really only a persons perspective which decides who is and who isn't a boy racer. In my opinion a boy racer is someone who drives a slow car with a loud exhaust and does burnouts, or anyone who races on the road. It seems that this car was labelled as a "boy racer" car without those prerequisites being fulfilled.

I'm pretty sure that the original posters of this topic would probably consider me to be a "boy racer", and I can assure you that I also am not a pillock.

Anyone care to define what "boy racer" means to them.

Yeah i'm in the, ive modified my car, shiny paint, mags and all the shit (gunna cage it soon!) ..... however i also like to think i'm not a complete prat on the road! and keep it for the track!!
i know theres plenty of people in this catagory, its the shitheads in any group of people that give them all a bad rep! nothing can really be done cos whoever wants to give someone shit for being a boyracer, has memories of some plonker in a sacked honda with a coby and chromes hurting someone or something close to them playing in their head!! so stereotypes and forgets theres a people in that car whos different from any other person driving the same car........

Yeah I mean there is places on the street where you can go hard in a car and a bike, but please use common sence when you are doing it.

IE don't race down residential areas, and down busy streets you know what I mean.

In a quiet area at a quiet time of day, go hard, but make sure you are keeping an eye out to whats happeneing.

Yeah totally agree with ya tiger, I'm not going to pretend I stick to the speed limit everywhere, but I'm only about as bad as my father and he's in his mid 50's. We both wind up our bikes when a suitable opportunity arises and we're in the right mood. Time and a place, and all too often people get that wrong, which is why there is such stringent road enforcement nowadays.

I have a 1975 corolla wagon, lowered on black 14" japenese drift wheels, 1500cc 5K engine, twin 40mm sidedraft carburettors extractors and 2" exhaust.

The 1500 is great for towing, really torquey, and it's a decent performer for an old car, nothing compared to new cars and bikes, but it handles like it's on rails and it EXTREMLY easy to work on. I dropped out the gearbox yesterday and it only took me 25 minutes!!

My other cage is a 1985 Mitsubishi cordia, this is fitted with a worked 4G63B 2000cc turbo galant engine, ported head TC06/TD05h 20g turbo, 1997 twin turbo VR-4 frontmount, ported and polished head, hot cam, wolf 2D fuel managment system, GAB coilovers at the front, custom coils at the back, full aero GT bodykit, red interior, 17x7.5" wheels and stuff, but this is an ongoing project not on the road yet.

Just take a bit of care what you do on the road, you always hear about accidents in the papers and it makes me sad, theres a lot of idots out there, be careful.

Your honda sounds cool, is it a civic or somthing? Always had a soft spot for tidy honda's, they are a tidy light wee car with punchy engines... I coincidently drive a honda motorcycle :lol: :msn-wink:
