Woohoo! Sun today! beautiful day for a ride, so off to the Rotomas I go.
The ride there was great! I didn't have time to go to whakatane so I turned around at the kauwerau turn off and went back over.
I could see there was a bit of ice on the road and a few wet patches but nothing major.
Got stuck behind a truck but he was nice enough to pull over and let me go past
Then....I get to the 35k corners :woohoo: fun fun! the first couple were....But then I come to a left hand 35k corner, I'm doing about 50k.... crash slide ouch.
Before I knew it my poor wee minton was on the other side of the road on its side :shit: Although I have to say the view of everything when I was sliding was quite a sight.
The first thing that went through my mind was FUCK am I going to get run over!? Fortunately there was nothing coming!!
Second thought...OH MY GOD!!! My fairings!!! they're going to be falling off and broken :crybaby: it's going to cost me a fortune!!!
So I run over to the bike pick it up....YES!! I PICKED IT UP LOL..........No damage:clap: apart from scratches on the foot peg, clutch lever, end of left handle bar and the plastic cover of the mirror...other than that nothing!
Next thought was.....Crap I hope it still goes!! I couldnt get it into neutral....so I pulled the clutch in and pushed the button and it starts! YAAAAYY!!!!
I couldn't stop grinning!! WTF why am I smiling!?!?
IT WAS CRAZY!!!
My knees both hurt, no blood though. The right more than the left and I have scratches on the chin of my helmet and theres a whole in the left knee of my coudura pants....(mums actually, SORRY mum! and a scratch on meh jacket :(
But other than that I'm fine!
Just thought I would share my 1st "bad experience" :)
Bad isn't the way to describe it though haha

A great piece of road but always ready to bite the unwary as you have found out.A good result as far as crashes go.One car coming from Rottenvegas at the wrong time and you wouldn't be posting!

Well u woundering how u would react if u crashed, there u go! Told ya in that situation u just end up doing wot's gota be done and get shaken later. Good to hear u'r ok tho, and it's a miracle u didnt get more damage to ur fairings (my poor fairings always get the hardest hit). Not too shaken that u won't be getting back on ur bike i hope!

You are very lucky!
I fell off (At about 8-12km/hr), landed on my chest and brused myself internaly nicely, Scraped my fairings, and my exhaust.
I got the total back from the shop today $4000, $1700 of that was the fancy pancy Exhaust on the 07 R6
This is my first road experience too, does not sound as spectacular as yours, I went down rather than slid. Just rolled a few times.
Hope you heal well, take care out there!

If your helmet touched the ground you'll probably be told to get a new one. Your bike is capable of going around a 35k corner at 50kph so have a think about what went bad.
There is no "learning" unless you know what you did wrong , sucks to learn the hard way sometimes though! Good to hear you and your bike are all good :2thumbsup

You plonker! Glad you are not too damaged sweets. That road is quite hard when you make contact with it. Try and figure out what happened too. Very important to work through what you did, or did not do to cause the off.
Mom can probably claim for replacement helmet and pants on her insurance, you get to pay the excess :D

Wow, I'm impressed that you could still pick your bike up and pootle on, despite obvious damage to both you and steed. Glad to hear you're ok, although don't be too surprised if delayed, well, I won't say "shock" 'cos I don't think it will be quite that, but "realisation" sinks in more about what could have gone wrong. (This has obviously already crossed your mind, sometimes time creates a difference in perspective).
Great to hear you got back on and have already been out again. :2thumbsup:
p.s. also amazing that your faring is intact, mine has had to be replaced twice and it's no fun sitting through the wait for it to come from Japan (and definitely no fun on the wallet either....)

I know what happened...I accelerated around the corner and the must have been ice on the road and the back wheel came out from underneath me.
Doesn't put me off riding though.
Oh.....and I have NO insurance lol

lol you egg. Yeah theres always SOMEthing on the Rotomas.. sand, or wet patches, or some slippery shit somewhere. It's pretty rare to get a straight run through there without having to dodge something. I dumped my bike yesterday just doing a bloody U turn, and it rattled me for hours, so you're doing well.

Arse with the slippery roads for sure. Being put off is a mind set.
Before I became a mature and sensible road rider, I used to ride off road. Could not tell you the amount of times I ate dirt. Been winded, bruised and battered a few times. Hasn't put me off so far. Had a few close shaves on the road, and one very slow speed off (fucking dogs). Biking is good fun.

Definately a warning sign. As soon as you get cocky or complacent...WHAMO! I hope it never happens to you again. Coulda been a whole lot worse. Just stay alert.
Oh and btw...just cos u have fancy broadband doesnt mean you should post huge pics. Some of us are still on dial up ya know.

:shit: It's not quite what I meant when I said you will be getting your knee down next. After you proudly mentioned you had scraped your boot.
Good lesson tho, we all have to learn . Its alway your first worry after falling off , limping over to see if the bike is ok.

Hey Cheshire Cat, that road is notorious for oil/fuel on the corners. I try to leave it till after mid-day at this time of year to ride on that road. Glad you came out ok, but it really could have been so different. It would be good to go back and have a look at the corner tomorrow if you can. Is it the one near the top on Whakatane side?
Glad you are ok!

Hey Cheshire Cat, love the attitude considering what has happened.
You got away lightly and was able to get home. Get back on that bike and take those corners again without coming off. Like you say it is all about the learning experience. You should be able to get your line and speed right to allow you to take the corners safely.
Good luck.

Hey Leyton, I relaise you don't want to steal CC's thunder and thread, but your fall sound a little traumatic for 8-12kph. What happened, did you loose balance or hhit something?

Was nothing as spectacular as Cheshire Cat's fall :P Mine was most likely incorrect balance around the round about in slippery conditions, The road surface was worn and smooth, It was probably black ice, Not 100% sure.

Well I guess the answer should be yes here, but it was actually more a lack of momentum, and an inability to create momentum in the space I had available, on a GN250...
I was following my lovely man up a driveway covered in the finest fines you can imagine. We were motoring along! Had to have been doing at least 20kph! There was a not quite 90 degree bend to the left about half way up. The driveway also cleverly had a kerb. You know the thing, stupid raised concrete fuckers on the edge of some roads. The kerb must have retained the drop to the culvert along side the driveway in one place. Note one place here.
This dog was really happy to have visitors  Came rushing down, barking its head off, and ran between me and my man. Fucken thing, I buttoned off my already huge speed to avoid running the thing over, right at the apex of this bend in the driveway. Realised immediately I was in trouble and needed to stop. Well I am short arse eh. My legs are not long enough to reach the bottom of the friggen culvert at the edge of the corner. Lucky really, would look really weird of my legs were three times the length of my body.
I can see it now. Ok, I need to get out this dumb dogs way, open the throttle is not an option (GN riders will understand this sensation) so I need to stop. Right all good, it appears there is no where safe for me to stop and put my feet down. Slowing down more (if that is actually possible at this stage) I bravely attempt to lean my bike into the left hand bend, with no available acceleration, bar what I was already attempting, my back tyre makes contact with the friggen kerb!
Hah! Really funny, I go to put my foot down and discover I dont have metre long legs :gob: Over we go! I chucked myself away from the falling bike and did this massive hollywood. Looked about like a starfish laying on the ground. Do you think the boys noticed? Not a chance. They wer busy admiring the new can on one of the bikes. In the end I stood up, and hands on hips yelled "EXCUSE ME!" I may have had to do that a couple of times to get noticed. My poor bike was bars down, wheels up in a drain. Not a hope in hell of me extracting it.
For the record, I hurt my ankle too then :baby:
Dogs suck!

Know what you mean about the off road riding tho...all you can do sometimes is laugh at the predicaments you get yourself into. Batterd and bruised but it all seems so funny at the time.
