It is one of my main irritations with the Police that they always seem to focus on soft and easy targets.

If they are now taking road safety more seriously then that is certainly a step in the right direction.

They take pride in upsetting people and placing the general public at risk of injury or death. THAT is the issue!

Drinker Drivers are no better...yet they don't get their cars crushed and the normally get a limited licence to drive....they are treated better....and if they crash they get ACC......

We stopped possible illegal street racing from taking place and were very concerned about the number of dangerously modified vehicles we came across


As I read the article, there was no "street racing" illegal or otherwise going on. Some young men (maybe some chicks too) had gathered in a car park.

120 of them

Well, I've seen nearly that many bikes gathered on occasion , in car parks or servos, preparing to set off on a ride. Like, maybe, the Coro GP ?

I guess that if the cops "corraled" such groups of bikers, they could say then also that they stopped" possible street racing".

And the cops went over 120 cars with a fine tooth comb. And issued 30 offence notices (not all necessarily related to the cars, I'd guess a good few licence issues); and order 15 off the road.

What odds that a similar inspection of 120 bikes would come up with similar figures. (Just exhausts alone could probably get more than that).

I'm thinking that a good few residents around the Coromandel or Akaroa areas would echo that sentiment. But it wouldn't be cars they were talking about.

Glasshouse, stones etc. And a generation that rejoiced in bell bottom trousers , paisley ties, winklepickers and Beatles haircuts is hardly in a position to criticise the sartorial efforts of youff.

We bikers havent made enough of a nuisance of ourselves to be targeted like this, sure if cops target us cos a minority are being numpties then id be annoyed, but the boy-racer are being numpties and need to be taken off the road, good on them cops for doing something about it i say. Also, i cant think of any car parks that could be effectively cordoned off to keep bikes in, cops pull up, all bikes exit along sidewalks etc.

C'mon, would you prefer to wait until they killed someone? The cops found a number of dangerously modified cars, how much time are you prepared to give them on the road to see if they are "doing anything dangerous"?

They were illegal cars in a public place, and if acting in this manner prevents them getting in the way of my wife and family, I'm all for it. Who are you kidding trying to split hairs?

Legal nitpickery notwithstanding there's a difference between a slightly rowdy set of cans and a 200hp WRX with it's coil springs rattling around on it's struts. The first is occasionally annoying to old folk in rest homes, the second is tantamount to manslaughter.
