IT'S A HOAX.
Schumies FXX was black and identical to the one used in the lap.
James and Hammond were laughing at how he was the weekend stig, and noone else is allowed to drive an FXX unless licenced to do so!

Yes, I wondered that. I suppose they could have worked the timing of the hotlaps around when he was available (sometimes the hotlap car was a different car to the test car).

Seems like a lot of hassle though. I wonder if it was the guys unmasked last year until Schumacher retired, and then he took over.

Yea that sounds much likely. Schuey driving a Renault F1 would had him breaking his Ferrari contract (back in those days).

I like the mystery! There is something romantic about a superhero's secret identity, and while the Stig might not quite fall into that category I think it adds to the whole fascination aspect. Competitive driving skills and a sexy cover-up suit.....(at least he doesn't wear his underwear on the outside)

But I don't believe that theory.
My guess is Sabine Schmitz (the German driver who kicked Jeremy Clarksons arse round the Nurburgring in the Van).

I don't want to know who the Stig is though. The Stig won't be The Stig if we all know who it is! It be just some other really really good driver not some mystical being.

Just watched this race between an xk120 a Vincent 1000and a steamtrain
There are 7 parts .It reminded me of Rod Dunshea racing his Vincent at Pukekohe, great days.
