I'd guess they muzzle themselves; wouldn't want the truth getting out about their own actions now would they?
There's always a pattern on kb when police behaviour is brought into question. Some kb coppers go to ground and say little or nothing while others bite your leg off like a rabid terrier. The cops try to defend themselves with comments like "you wouldn't/couldn't do my job" and "I have to deal the scum of the earth every day" etc etc ad infinitum. However, they choose their job, nobody forces them into it so...if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Putting that blue uniform on makes you a target and it could be said that wearing a black leather jacket and riding a Harley does the same thing, only in reverse.
The cops stick together and have their own code of silence, just as other social groups do (honour amongst thieves etc.). However, when the cops screw up they have immense backing (especially financial) to cover it up and/or discredit those who might criticize them or attempt to face up to them and exercise their rights. Generally speaking Joe Average doesn't have that luxury. Legal Aid lawyers tend not to be the best, the best are expensive and even if you win the chances of getting your money back are slim. The cops know this and play on the fact that many people will simply 'roll over' because the fight is too immense for them.
When someone feels hard done by thanks to an officious cop then kb is one place to vent and compare notes with others who have been treated similarly; go hard I say. If kb cops don't like what they see/read they can always sign out.

Original comment was based on patrick's [a copper!] assertion that he knows quite a few coppers that have been busted for drink/driving. Additionally my wife works with the police-I know what the fuckers get up to allright!
My assertion was "I know of quite a few" with emphasis on the "few."
Maybe 12 or so in 23 years. There will be more. I don't know of all of them.

Human resources must be biting the force in the arse!...odds on some of the piss heads that got booted out for DIC would have been displaying questionable behaviour well before being rounded up. HR would undoubtedly dealt with them with kid gloves, the result being DIC, booted out and another scar against the coppers that are performing well.
One bad cop can do so much damage to the collective image.

Well, in 2007/8 760,920 of New Zealanders joined the ranks of heinous criminals. Don't know the figure for 2008/9, but it's going to be higher. So you're in pretty good company.
Nowadays pretty much every NZ adult is deemed a criminal by the police. Which may account for why people are less likely to dob in the *real* criminals.
After all, since the cops regard my driving at 111kph as being on a par with the activities of Mr Asia, or Mr Weatherston , why should I bother to assist them in their actvitieis agaianst my fellow criminals ?

True. I've never been able to get my head around the fact that (alleged) speedsters get fined for popping 111kph on perfect roads on perfect days but carve someone up and you get three meals a day, tv, access to a library, can put yourself through Uni' and get your teeth fixed. Adds a hell of a lot of weight to the arguments that:
The coppers primary role is to act as highwaymen removing money from innocent folk. Property protection is a by product [ever rang the cops after suffering a theft, property damage? "ring your insurance....the fookers will not bother even turning up to take witness statement, fingerprints].
Speeding is a guaranteed, dependable resource of money for the government. They plan on increasing the take on a yearly basis. Speeding is big business!
Members of the force MUST be collectively brain washed to accept explanations surrounding speeding. In fact many members of the force DO NOT believe the 'official' line.
In its simplest form; speeding is tax!

Little prick followed me south from around the tunnel - for ages.
Then he is along side or just in front - for ages. Then he takes off after the other guys who had a bit of a gap on me. No way to warn them but they were riding all safe and legal. He then pulls into the slow vehicle lane and waits until the Greville Rd. flyover before putting on his lights. I look in my mirrors and see lights on. Guy in front of me must have had a guilty conscious as he hits the picks. I nearly run up his arse as I'm looking behind me. So I'm not happy already and that made it worse. He didn't seem to want to follow my hand gestured instructions to feck off and leave me alone so I finally pull over.
Starts off wanting to know why I had taken so long to pull over.
"Well why the hell would I think you were wanting to pull me over? I wasn't doing anything wrong."
Then he reckons I had come tearing up behind him and only slowed down when I realised he was a cop. So of course I told him I thought he was full of shit. Takes my licence away to his car. Comes back and tells me I haven't got a WOF. So I point out the WOF on the bike. 'Well it's not on the system"
"Well that's not my fault" I reply.
"Well it's not my fault" he says.
The goes to write out a ticket and says I will have to take the test sheet in to ..... I Say "why don't you just look at it. You can see Where it was issued and the expiry date etc." as I had cleverly put it in the holder with all that info facing out.
"No I can't ", he says. Must be a bit shortsighted eh?
"Well look at this test sheet then", I say as I pull the sheet out of the glove box on my bike. I think he is unhappy to see that and also to see my radar detector and gps. I figure he can see I can prove I wasn't speeding so he has to drop his bullshit story.
"So why did you pull me over", I ask.
"Licence and Registration check " he replies.
"Oh for fucks sake", I grab my licence, jump on the bike and take off.

Lying cops and cops up to no good generally seem to be gaining in numbers, or is it just that they get dumber by the year (with the annual intake of well-intentioned but utterly corruptable dweebs) and are getting found out more often coz they're just plain stupid. I was a good boy and not doing anything too silly so no cause to be 'taxed' but it made me wonder how many burglars, kiddy fiddlers etc..... might have been investigated and 'real' convictions secured.

there are crimes and there are "crimes". Doing a few ks over the arbitary speed limit is not in the same league as robbery, assault or worse, yet it seems to get an undue degree of priority. (Well aware there are real serious road events, but I'm referring to minor speeding infringements)
Could it be because road policing is money in the bank, but real crime investigation costs, and the fines come nowhere near meeting the costs.

Of course.
Motorists are 'easy meat', real crims take a bit more than a radar or laser to nab. It is common knowledge that the open road speed limit is set too low so as to make a cash cow of people who 'cruise' at a comfortable speed for their modern machine, mostly in the 110-120 bracket.
Ka-fuckin-ching! Arkwright couldn't have done it better. (Ca-ca-ca-caaaake?)
What irks me the most is; those who enforce laws that they know are stupid. I am all for nabbing robbers/rapists/bashers and loonies doing 200kph in supermarket carparks but seriously; 100kph on the open road is a joke. A lobby for upping it needs to get rolling (sic) with compulsory Defensive Driving/ Improved Skills courses for all new drivers or drivers convicted of fuckwittery.

They were actually talking about reducing it though?
100kph limit down country is not too bad, as theres usually some corners and or scenery..
Motorways however should be lifted. Going from say, orewa to huntly (full stretch of motorway) is so mundane at 100kph, that pure boredom is enough to cause accidents...

Murdering copper goes on trial....
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10612565
A police officer allegedly beat up a man in the back of a patrol car who was subsequently fatally injured in a street accident, a court heard today.
When the frightened man fled, he was struck and killed by a street sweeper, according to the Crown prosecutor.
George Tipene Harris died on the way to hospital on October 3, 2004 after being hit by the truck. The man he was running from, Clinton Lyall Hill, 34, today went on trial charged with his manslaughter.
The Crown says Hill, who can be named after a suppression order lapsed this morning, is responsible for Mr Harris' death because he was so frightened of him he ran into the path of the truck while he was trying to escape.
He is also charged with assault and attempting to pervert the course of justice. He denies all the charges.
In his opening address at the High Court at Auckland today, Crown prosecutor Stuart Grieve said Mr Harris had been arrested by Hill after an altercation outside a south Auckland night club and was being taken to a police station.
Both men had been drinking and Mr Harris had been denied entry to the night club. Hill was talking on his cell phone when an altercation between them started in which Hill's jacket was torn. He arrested Harris, intending to take him to the Wiri Rd police station but instead flagged down a patrol car.
The two officers in the car agreed to take them to the police station and it was on the way there the Crown alleges Hill assaulted Mr Harris. Mr Grieve said Hill told the constables to drive to a car park around the back of a bank.
One of the officers left the car but the other stayed in the front seat. Mr Grieve said it was the Crown case that Hill assaulted Mr Harris in the back seat and outside alongside the patrol car.
Mr Grieve said at some point Mr Harris managed to get away from Hill which he was "fully entitled to do" because although he was lawfully arrested he was being "unlawfully assaulted".
"The accused had no right or justification for assaulting him in the back of the car or alongside it."
The officers drove around searching for him, eventually seeing him on nearby Ryan Place. Hill told him to get back in the car but Mr Harris refused.
"No doubt fearing further assaults he ran off again," Mr Grieve said.
Mr Harris ran off and was then hit by the street sweeper.
In the investigation that followed, Hill made no reference to the alleged assaults as he attempted to "cover up" what happened, the court heard.
Hill's lawyer, John Haigh QC, said Mr Harris' death was an ""absolute tragedy" but his client was not criminally responsible for it.
He said no assault took place and that Mr Harris was fleeing lawful police custody when he died.
The trial has been set down for two weeks.

What happened??.... Justice is a by product of westminster style law systems, Rickard's proved that beyond doubt; furthermore every minor traffic charge that is undefended because it costs more for defence than it does for the charge rams the fact home. Our 'justice' system is about control and lining pockets, appeasing public opinion is a by product. The copper [in this case] is still an arse hole regardless of court [or jury] guilt.

Speeding prosecutions are ‘postcode lottery’
By Steve Farrell -
General news
16 December 2009 16:40
Speeding prosecutions are dished out in a postcode lottery with the chances of getting one varying widely from one region to another, according to a report.
One in eight motorists in North Wales received points on their licence for speeding in 2007 compared to one in 100 in Durham.
For all traffic offences, Northamptonshire led the way in England and Wales with on in six motorists getting points.
Durham was again bottom of the table with a rate of one in 50.
In Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway beat even North Wales, with one in five getting points.
The rate of drivers getting points for using mobile phones also varied, from 1% in Merseyside to one in 500 in Leicestershire.
A spokeswoman for the magazine Auto Express, which obtained the figures, said: “The risk to your licence simple depends on where you live.”

That isn't the whole story. Durham doesn't actively target motorists for their money.
They also don't have a rising road toll. Coincidence?
