I think we should start a new thread for this for the aftermath analysis of the open day at Pukekohe.

Basically it was excellent. Little rain as we got together for the ride down then it cleared and was basically perfect conditions on the track. The turnout was ok if not huge. About 10 or so Kbers there.

Most of us did 3 sessions, though some stayed longer.

ANyway Mono was the first casualty. After deliberating wether to go on the track he did and couple of laps later was on his arse! After slipping on some cement powder on the hairpin. Tough one mate. I spent the first session hooning and wheelying in general.

Second session was marked early by a Chinese guy crashing hard before the start finish straight on a new CBR 1000. He was lucky he didn't take more riders out, but unlucky because he lost conscoiusness got cut by the armco and probably broke some bones too. We then after a pause for the ambulance got back out, and hey Mono was back out too. Well done.

Session 3. Time to get serious and put some times in instead of just arsing about. Lap times down (? the times to be honest), knees out, rev limiters in evidence....great fun basically. Then, fuck me I've hit reserve on my fuel, 4th session no chance.

Other observations: Frosty seemed to be broken down a lot; I outdrag Bugjuice on the back straight but he has higher top speeds???? I got my knee down on nearly every corner on the track, repeatedly, yay! Mono for crashing out and then fixing his bike, still smiling and still getting out, well done that man. Looking forward to seeing the pictures posted by Ming/Feint. He can even show video of a CBR1000RR riding the circuit without a rider; he also has a photo of Mono sliding on his arse. Cool. Oh it was my intention to wheelie the start finish straight, but ended up having to do it in 2 wheelies instead. Amazing really when you consider that my 1st time at Puke 5 months ago, I had never wheelied nor got my knee down, just shows you what you can achieve.

Basically an excellent ride, with great company.

Hey
About that cbr1000 ridden by an asian guy.
Was he wearing rossi replica suit and did he have a grey bike or a repsol coloured bike?

FEINT

He had a grey coloured CBR1000RR and he was wearing the REPSOL coloured suit. His mate was also wearing the same suit but was riding a RED CBR1000RR.

Yea well I knew id be in the pits fiddling a lot . I diddn't expect to have a dodgy battery give me so much false feedback though. I was convinced I'd seized the motor about 5 times. It was a bloody long push back to the pits when it finally gave up the ghost.Still Ol mella yella has some life in him
I had a bloody great day acheiving exactly what I wanted to.
I got a solid 150km on mella yellas new motor and felt like I was getting back in to the groove even after some minor hickups. I was timed at a respectable 1.13 which is about 7 seconds faster than I was aiming for on the new motor and that was nursing the new motor a fair bit --gee willikers that back straight is bloody looooooong when ya rolling on and off the throttle.
I got out for one session on the SV and shit what a different bike --power everywhere -flat and easy to use. Took a lot of getting to gripps with after mella yella and Ill definitely be fitting a very thin seat base -that seat has to be about 6 inches thick. I felt like I was about 3 feet in the air when I tipped into corners.
the only pity was not riding with more KB ers.
As a side note --shit castol is SOOO nice now

That was a great day... apart from the crash I had, I started of from pit lane repeating over and over " Don't go too fast, just learn the track, the bikes brand new" and managed to get two and a half laps in before the other voices in my head :devil2: got so loud I couldn’t ignore them any more, and my wrist wouldn’t let go of the throttle, then after about five or six more laps, I found myself crouched beside my bike inspecting my handy work, two fairings, an alternator cover, and a rear set, bugger. Still, I can’t wait to go again. Great picks from Feint. :ride:

Got some picks too, Had to zoom them heaps so there not that good.

You might remember a KB ride last year around the Coro loop where a guy binned and wrote off his new Fireblade - that was John...nice guy! Don't think he's actually a KB member though?

i managed to come of my bike in the 4th session. the official reason for falling off was that baby blade decide to run out of gas halfway round the hairpin...

it was just a small fall and a few bits came off.

Thanks heaps to Frosty and his mates for helping get the bike going again. I owe you guys big time.

i've learnt my lesson...i should put a bloody fuel indicator on my bike.

Hey guys, had a great day at Puke. Firstly thanks a lot to Frosty for letting me share his luxurious pit garage! Great to finally meet some KB'ers what a good bunch of blokes!

First time round Puke, bloody terrifying circuit... fast, bumpy, oily(thanks to the cars), and some very, very fast guys. Can't wait for the next adrenalin fix!!

Great pics Feint!! Thought I spotted someone hanging over the crash barrier. I am in the background of a couple of shots of other KB'ers, wondered if that was the complete collection or if there might be any others of a '95 Tigerblade?

what a bloody day! When's the next one?! I thought in terms of crashing, that's the worst open day I've been to. In fact, the amount of times I've been, I've only seen one crash when I was first there, and that's cos the guy was being a dick by sliding his bike in and out of corners and it highsided.. So crash wise, not so great..

As for anything to do with my sessions, I was a tad hesitant going hard out of most of the corners cos of how twitchy the front was and wasn't sure if the back tyre would be happy for me to throttle it and get the front up, so I didn't, plus no steering damper which I think would have helped me out there. May be next time. Kinda happy that my 'off-timed' laps were around 1.15 to 1.20 with heavy traffic, managing to get it down to consistant 1.10 to 1.15 for most of the first and third sessions, and managed to wow myself with times from 1.06.3 to 1.08 on the second session, and I still wanted to go harder, but didn't trust myself to. Also found the rev limiter twice - once on the start/finish in 4th, just forgot to change until it kicked in, then the second time, I caught the draft on the back stretch being a mate on the ZX10, which boosted me that little extra to bounce the limiter in 6th. Fastest I have ever been on 2 wheels to date, bouncing off the limiter, I swear I saw it flash either 282 or 285kph. At that speed, there's a lot going on, so it was a quick peek. I thought it said 285, but with it being digital and such a short look, I'd be happy to admit, it could have read 282kph. Now to get my speedo calibrated to see how far out it is. It would have made it itself, but the kink on the back was just putting me out a bit, so the drafting before the kink helped me out. Without the draft, I was seeing 260 to 270+ without a problem, did 277 before I backed off. Really surprised how hard it pulls all the way to the red line. Didn't think engines would have been able to do that.

Anyways, the rest of the guys on the track -
Frosty, I waited for ya, where were ya dude? And the amount of times you crashed on that quad, kinda scarey to think that's 4 wheels and you couldn't keep it together! Good entertainment while we were waiting tho! very good.
Mono, shit luck dude.. You got balls to patch her up and get back out there tho! Full credit there, and with no rear brake. Hope the repair bill isn't too much.. But you said you had fun, even if it was a touch expensive, so good on ya. May be better next time round, and we can do a little head-to-head, cos I'd be interested how you and I, and the bikes would fair up against each other.. Same for Quasi too, but I think he'd be a little hard to catch..
Limmy, dude... sux that you crashed out.. Did you get to learn anything from the crash? Did you learn much from the track before then? How's the cornering coming on? Now you have to take the experiance you learnt from the track (corners, your ability, your bikes ability etc) and start to apply it to the road, but not at those speeds!! Now you know what you can do, you might see that road riding will become a touch easier, now you know that you can lean a bit more..
Swanny, we should have done a few head-to-heads too.. Would have been interesting, but I really need to get some sliders..
FEINT, thanx for the pics, and taking footage with my cam. Haven't watched it yet, but good on ya..

fook, who else...?? everyone was really good out there, there weren't many slow ones, and the fast ones weren't overly boysterous, so I think it went well. Made me feel good that I was able to be overtaking other bikes now, every time I've been was on a CBR250, so now the extra power was a real eye-opener..

what a bloody day! When's the next one?!

without too much detail, it *seemed* like a racing accident, hit tagged the back of another bike which sat him upright, and it looked like he tried to outbrake the corner as apposed to trying to get it back round again. Hard to say for sure, but he did hit at a bloody good speed.. Hope he pulls thru it ok, sure he will.. Just bad luck, poor dude..

The originals aren't blurry but during the re-sizing I think I have lost some compression in the quality :angry2: .... I never realised it. I will have to re-size them with high compression.... damn...

I thought the resolution was wrong... If I want to post so many on the internet, I have a problem with bandwidth.

So I re-sized them down to 1024 x 768 but on low resolution. This leaving the photos around 80kb instead of 400kb!

I have to originals which are 3008 x 2000 and on high resolution but they are at approx 4MB each, which I can't post 60 of them! :angry2:

Thanks for your replies, I will try and either make the photos smaller with better resolution or find more bandwidth.

Thanks!

for the site and those poor saps on dial-up (myself included), why not make the 800x600 then if anyone wants bigger ones, then just pm/email them.. make the res 100dpi (better for LCD screens) and in PS, just run something like Auto-levels and/or auto-ballance (?? can't remember, don't have it running at the mo), which will help the colours up a little.. Also, set up an action in PS, then when you open up a few that you want to post, just run the action..

I had 60 photos (OUT OF THE 200shots taken  ) to go through and I couldn't be bothered - auto levels, adjust curve, adjust image size, save as file... then upload, create HTML file etc. :)

So I just re-sized them in ACDSEE to 1024 x 768 and I assume ACDSEE killed my compression leaving me with a SMALL file, but poor quality. :angry2:

just get PS to do it all for you.. Some sites it makes can be a little crude, but hell, saves a hell of a lot of time. I've done similar things before, I set PS to go for it, and see if I can make a coffee before PS is finished..

with each passing day, it's a little more cloudy. I should have taped the damn timer for proof on the camcorder, but I didn't.
Well, I guess the only thing to do is to get back down to the track when someone gives me a new back tyre.. well let this one slide then, and I'll see what happens next time round, and we'll see.
Frosty, the only way I can see it was the average times we were both putting in were about the same for most of the laps. Any of the quicker, then it's only a few seconds. I'd need to make up over a minute on yer ass to pass ya, which I would have needed more laps for, which we didn't get. I'll make a note of it next time to pass in a way you'll remember. If it helps, I don't remember seeing you push the bike to the pits.. but I guess I wasn't looking for anything going slower than 150ks...

but I did friken enjoy it, yeah! :Punk:
