Which network are they piggybacking on? They might be slightly cheaper, but they can't have any better coverage/capacity than whoever they're using.

I don't think they are allowed to say.

I'd be surprised if the VooDoo boys would let them join.

Telecom wholesale is focussed upon getting as many at the party as possible.

There's a 50% chance I am right.

Purchasing a product because of the actor they use in their adverts is an outstanding idea.

2 Degrees has a pretty chequered history (they have changed their company name 3 or 4 times already, and needed several large cash injections to keep going - and they are yet to even start trading). I'm not confident they'll be able to deliver anything that is long lasting.

That didn't last long. 029 was TelstraClear on Vodafone about a year or so ago.

They need a txt only plan. I never make phone calls on my phone. I just want to pay for the few txts i send each month.

2 degrees sounds like a pretty cool plan, piggybacks off other providers, no customers and doesn't afraid of anything!

I honestly wish them the best of luck, this time.
Telecom and Vodafone have a monopol-esque grasp over us in the land of the long white cloud.
But for me, $10 a month is about as cheap as it gets.

Agreed... Ride the FOTC buzz huh...

I'd try them if they provide competitive pricing, Telecom & Vodaphone are both thieves... Its a matter of choosing a lesser evil. Come to think of it I do some evil shit occasionally.

Ignoramuses!
They've put their own mobile towers up all over the country, they are completely seperate. This is how they are able to lower prices, they are reliant on nobody.
COMPLETELY SEPERATE. PIGGYBACKING NEIN!

Over the past few years we've spent $250million building a mobile network to give you more choice about mobile calling and easier ways to stay in touch with the people you know.
I don't know how I can make this more clear, I suggest you all watch the video.

They will send you a sim card for free with $5 free credit on it.
Can't complain about that, try it for free and if the service sucks throw the sim away. Easy as that.

So why did they waste so much of their money bribing the maori party MPs to get the law changed so they can?

2Deg has thier own network up in the main cities Auck, Wel and ChCh everywhere else they have an agreement with Voda. Good thing with 2Deg is that they went to Telecom to sort out the interferance issue even before the XT network launched. Voda on the other hand knew about the problem but wanted to leave it to the last minute to try and delay the XT launch. Thats just under handed.

Hell yeah, It's only a sim card so it's no biggie to change back if it doesn't work out for you. Can't wait to pull the vodafone card out.

I have no confidence that 2Degrees will last. They have already changed their company name about 4 times, and changed owners so many times it isn't funny.

Fark. They're bloody expensive.

9 cents for a text , compared to 2 cents on Vodafone , 2.4 cents on Telecom.

And a swingeing 50 cents /Mb for data  , compared to 8 cents for Vodafone or 5.4 cents for Telescum .

Far too pricey . Maybe the rate for yap yap calls is cheaper but who uses a phone for talking nowadays

Are you kidding? You think they would spend years and years preparing and putting up hundreds of cellphone towers just to decide nah they want to call it quits?

I hope you're just being facetious Ixion, as those are terrible comparisons to be made. (And people will take them as fact!)

Yeah, I'm on their residential plan, free phone, $20/month still 12mths to go. I do have an old Vodafone pre-pay that I'll use the free 2 Degrees sim in. But I do want to know more about it.

PS. My current plan with Telstra Clear is 29c/min any landline or mobile in NZ anytime, so it's quite good.

This looks quite interesting. I have sent off for a free sim card to try it out. Why not, wont cost me anything... I hope!

Thought this was interesting though, taken from 2D website:

Two Degrees Mobile Limited (as we are officially known) is New Zealand’s newest mobile company. But we've been around a little while, and we’ve been busy. Over the last few years we’ve spent $250 million constructing a brand new mobile network in New Zealand.

2degrees is a New Zealand company chaired by Bill Osbourne. He's an ex-All Black and well-respected NZ businessman. We also have financial backing and technical expertise from companies in Ireland, Hong Kong and the United States. Our CEO is Eric Hertz, an American guy with 30 years experience in the telecommunications industry, including the top jobs at Zumobil and Western Wireless.

Our financial backing includes private funding from Trilogy International Partners, Communication Venture Partners and the Hautaki Trust. (http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/web/guest/company)

Hmm so financial backing through Maori trust? Curious, as long as 2D keeps prices low and competitive it looks good.

I'd like to hear how good the network is after people use it for a few months, most of the gear is new but low cost stuff. That isn't necessarily bad, we use some cheap kamikooza stuff sometimes with good results, but I work with wires, not airwaves...

As I get 0 - 1 bars on Vodyphoney and constantly dropped called on Telecon then I've got nothing to loose by giving it a bash.

I like Telstra clear, $20 per month for 500 free texts to either network and 39 cents a min to landline or mobiles( I don't talk long). I was spending more than that on vodafone prepay - on text 2000, with no calls!!!

:niceone: Yes we are trying it out with the free sim card and free $5.00 credit.
If it dosnt work out after a few months I will change my sim card back.
Had a bad run with vodafone last month..... Just changed our phone and net to telecom.
