Rather than clogging (sorry Cloggy) up the tag thread, I have replied here..

I'm not throwing the toy's out of the cot. If it bothered me that much, I wouldn't be here now. I would just stop coming to the thread and stop playing. Misinterpretation in the written word is the biggest cause of issues. so I will try to explain where I'm coming from.

All I'm saying is that we need to be careful that the game doesn't just become a Welly during the week and Kapiti at week-ends. Because people will stop watching for the tags when it's out of their 'local' area. By the time you search for an obscure tag without clues, then suite up and ride for 1+ hours to get there and back, a local has already nipped around the corner and grabbed it.
And yes, that is the nature of the game but it's also the easiest way to kill the game because people will eventually give up trying.

As BMWST said, we just need to make sure that sometimes tags are laid in obvious places that make it an available 'snatch' for everyone.

example - just been onto the main tag thread and the only ones watching are the coasters

Fair enuff H/E.
I'm not having a go here but three points,
1) It was you that said "rant over"
2) There was more than one easy tag put up yesterday that were left for a coupla hours giving non locals a go, but the non locals were busy elsewhere
3)I have seen four welly crew on this a.m. including yourself.

However, I do see wot your saying, as I have ridden into town on 5 or 6 ocasions to find I am an hour late when I come to post, it is the luck of the game.

At the end of the day, if folks are going to get pissed of, maybe the boundries need to be closed in and take out upper hutt, wairappa and the coast.

I agree that we need to be careful to ensure the fun stays in it. As a Coast to city commuter it suits me to play in both locales getting and dropping tags on my into or out of town and playing within other comittements and range during the weekends although not averse to a longer run occassionaly. Hey if the tags gone before you get back it a still a good ride and "You have to ride to play" so thats the main feature ( It is for me anyway ) of the game.

1) Point taken - bad choice of words.
2) This is what I'm talking about. We have choices. either sit in front of a screen for a couple of hours to nail a tag location. Or go for a ride. Once out for a ride, the tag can be there all day but your unaware of it. If the tag becomes almost impossible to grab, people will stop looking and just go for a ride.
A couple of weeks ago I rode past the tag about 6 times over in Featherston because it was posted after I had decided to just go for a ride. That's life.
I ended up going back over the hill to grab it.

3) I spent the time in there today not so much looking at the tag but more to read the comment's this subject has raised. I would be interesting to know how many looked and then flagged it as a no-hoper.

Finally, I totally disagree with the boundaries being changed. The whole idea of the game is to get out riding. Not just 3k's down the road but further afield.
The point of this discussion was to get people thinking about their tag locations and not making everyone of them so obscure that it kills off the game.

fwiw if my bike was legal i would be up the coast early this morning then nipped back for the taka ride....I would have loved to be able to actually snatch a tag too but the main thing is the ride.BUT I HAVE TO HAVE A BELEIF THAT I CAN GET THE TAG (however unrealistic )

If it wasnt pissing and blowing and my ass already 900kms in the wear this weekend- I would grab that current TAG and place one from Lake Ferry muwahahahahahahaha :shit:

My opinion - and I come as a newbie of what-8 or 9 tags-

I try to put distance between the tag I took and the tag I place
Thats MY only self set criteria:Punk:

As we CAN use file pix- why not keep ya hard tags- and set a challenge by all means
But for example- how many TAGs have simply been another building on Ihakara st in Pram?
Its gotta move to keep the game alive:shifty:

Maybe the way to keep it intersting- even if coastjacked or cityhogged etc for days on end- is that 15 or 20kms be the minimum distance between tags?

What I am trying to say is- you dont have to get a tag on the way to or from the one your capping right now- use one ya had taken 4 weeks ago while at featherston- lol-

I don't agree. I don't like file pics, see rule #4. Fresh pics give you a lot of information, and it keeps you riding, which is one of the main goals of the game.

On the other hand, it's nice to make the tag move a bit. Of course, there will be cases (bad weather, night, keeping the game alive) where you don't want to put it too far either, so I wouldn't make a rule for it.

Guy s guys guys....we have an awesome game goin....each tag/tagger has there own situation.I take each tag as it comes. The other night for example when i got KGB tag at Porirua. It was latish and a work night.I wasnt gonna ride far to get another tag,and during the week who would. As i passed through Johnson Ville i didnt have a new tag in mind but at he roundabout i saw the e out the corner of my eye and remembered that i had thought before it would make a GOOD NIGHT TAG.So on the way back thats what i took.....everyone has the same story I am sure.Lets just play the game as we each see fit,no more rules...If you wanna have a bunch of file tags then thats fine but if you do, state that it is a file tag(taken when) cos all sorts of visual clues help you figure out where it might be.The game will move around as each tag is grabbed.

Well said and I fwiw as a noob I like the game just the way it is and will get tags as when the situation arises either going hunting or not as life dictates. The spontaneous rides ( midnight to Paekakariki for example ) are all part of the FUN

and just my 2c worht. I think the game is working just fine as it is. I was hoping it would extend to the Rapa, but when that didnt happen, i just decided i would extend my boundarys and go the the game when i can. Its working well having it in Welly during the week and Coast on the weekend. And at the end of the day, its all just about having a bit of fun, going for a ride and sometimes the pleasure of actually meeting a fellow tagger. We all seem to be like minded people and there is no need to get hung up on more rules and regs. Just enjoy. :sunny:

Bad enough being schizo between Welly, Coast and the ocassional Rappa tag, adding Manawatu would get seriously confused and I'm a simple lad really.
No doubt as in all things a natural level / equilibrium will find itself. :ride:

i feel that the boundary's should be SOUTH of palmy... (north of picton:stupid:)

as... from the middle of welly to palmy is only SHORT ride....

in fact i would go as far as to say that south of BULLS would be the go....

Laxi! Welcome back :Punk:

My tag wishlist:
I wouldn't mind it if the boundaries stretched. Wellington Tag-o-rama could mean Wellington province.
I also reckon there should be a little less pressure to get a new tag up within an hour or so of nabbing the last one.
I would like to see more interesting locations, something which has a bit of history attached, or some interesting facts or a nice view or simply somewhere where one wouldn't normally go. Its all about getting out there and going for a ride (rather than a mad dash) and the destination.
I like the knarly ones. Where you need to do a bit of research and snooping to try and work out where the location is. A cryptic clue or two adds to that enjoyment. If the tag stalls for a day or two in the meantime, no real biggie.
To facilitate the above, perhaps we should allow file pics but use common sense ( a pic in front of some monument is not going to change much between a recent or 3 month old pic, but a tag in front of a billboard probably will ).

My thoughts on it are;

To pick up a tag you have to post a new not file pic and not use a mobile upload to make it fair for the more technologically/financially repressed amoung us.

To place your own tag, a file pic is ok (it will speed the game up) and or a mobile upload is ok.

I recon the boundaries at present should be Sanson in the north and perhaps Masterbaton in the 'rapa (moving out to ekatabloodyhunna....dannevirke or so in summer).

thats how we play it...some dont like the file pics....but file pics are a NO NO for pickin up tags..We have discussed not using a mobile device on pickin up a tag ,but they arent specifically banned at the moment...

I agree...If we want to go further abroad we can just organise a catch up and do it! At this rate we will be having a 300th tag catch up real soon and just about every week another hundred will have clocked over!
I will use file pics for a new tag in the interest of keeping the game going but a big :no: to pick a tag up with a file pic!

How's the idea of pre-declaring tag 300 = tag 1 and attempting a bit of a group meeting at the site

any takers ? :soon:

it was an adventure!
Drogens map makes it look straightforward

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/30057073@N08/3905249403/" title="top of hill by kiwiproflexrider, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2455/3905249403_63c278b368.jpg" width="500" height="349" alt="top of hill" /></a>

I knew that it was up Pinehaven,or up there somewhere and Avro road was on the line of view...after looking around some other roads i knew Avro road had to be the spot cos it was the only place that would be high enough.

but in reality!

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/30057073@N08/3905275821/" title="the real story by kiwiproflexrider, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2675/3905275821_fae10110e7.jpg" width="500" height="388" alt="the real story" /></a>

at the end of Avro road there was this sign

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/30057073@N08/3906062572/" title="avro 035 by kiwiproflexrider, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3483/3906062572_c7377cffe2.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="avro 035" /></a>

and off to the left there was a track albeit partially blocked by large concrete blocks,,,so off i go,it was going down and to the east...wrong way i thought, and a couple of side tracks confirmed my thoughts, nearly got stuck cos couldnt turn around....A bit of pushing and backing up and back up to Avro....it MUST be down this private road then so off i go quietly and sure enough there is the gate.Do i take a pic and leave or....So again off i go but immediately am faced with branches of the main track...a couple are wide and well used, other arent, and i nearly get stuck again twice...one involves some very close encounters with GORSE.Eventually i find this spot
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/30057073@N08/3905077293/" title="avro 032 by kiwiproflexrider, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3523/3905077293_39f7af8dc3.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="avro 032" /></a>
I am not convinced this is exactly the right spot, but its close enough for me.The golf driving range is in the very bottom left of the grass area

at the moment the tag is counted as one...no matter how many people get it,and the same as bike makes...
i think i have figured out a way to have the group tags counted as one each (and for the make). Also if you are a multi bike owner you can check the stats sheet to make sure i have counted your bike make correctly.

Alright Despite the fact that this stuff just erks me and puts a Downer on the Game, I would like to pose the question following Hawkeyes remarks again yesterday " Does anyone actually have a problem with the format the game has adopted where it is suggested that the coasters are "Hogging" ( sorry Sketchy ) the game on the weekends.
I personally believe that this was well and truelly covered yesterday by a good amount of support for the fact that the game has evolved to suit the players and that everyone is relatively happy with its format, but I think it may be prudent to offer the chance for people to speak up if they feel the need.
I have a lot of respect for the way Hawkeye played the game in the past and no one can forget his awesome efforts in the 25 tag challenge, it is a shame to lose his input to the game over a matter that at this point appears to be only his own view - that is why i am asking the question if there are other players out there that would like to express their view.

Actually there are TWO points of view that i want to get to grips with, but first I want to say that the game has evolved into what it is and I am not gonna try and change it.We have got to the stage where there is a pressure to get the next tag up quickly,AND the need to get back home in double quick time to post the tag to claim it.
The only way to get more spread out tags is
1) have a whole pile of file tags
2)Get home and post/claim the tag then go out and get a new one and we must wait for that.
Hawkeye seems to want that style of play(no 2 above),and i think devo is saying that to respond to the pressure for a quick turn around has resulted in a close game....exactly as happened around the Hutt on Saturday morning.
Now at the moment we are playing the close game...but anyone at any time has the power to play a LONG game, and we will just have to wait for the new tag...but my plea is this.If we play a LONG game its gotta be easily recogniseable tags otherwise we get the situation where we get only 1 tag and maybe a return on a saturday(half a day huntin and half a day getting and returning)
The close game in Welly or the close game on the coast obviously makes it harder for a non local to claim...my 2c....
Now waht are we doing for tag 300?

Scout

Thanks for the input BMWST, I think that the Game plays the way it does and that you have summarised it very effectively, what really upsets me is the unwarranted focus on the Coast players when clearly it is the same accross all regions and has been played as such without the need for snide statements.
As for Tag 300, I think it is time that we accepted that the 300th tag, like the 100th and 200th is not going to fall at a scheduled time and place and that we perhaps agree on a date and place that best suits the masses to perhaps celebrate the fact that we have acheived 300.
just my 2c

I think that what has evolved is fine and the fact that it sometimes plays long and sometimes close in any area is OK too.

My 'vote' is that "It ain't broke .. don't fix it"

There is a thread for the discussion of Tag 300 http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=107720

StoneY
21st September 2009, 10:46
I have changed camp tiwce on this issue- to be fair to all-

I was as Hawkeye at first- "man that tags barely moved"

BUT I came to realise in time that the 'coast' team are merely making the best of the region they're in (small cant be helped) and the limited play time availed to some of them who:
a; have to commnute WAY further than us nearer town and
b; will always place it in reach of the townies on a Sunday ARvo (often Scout)

So they DO go out of thier way to pass it back if it has been 'coastjacked' so its back in city play weekly

Weve seen SketchY, Scout, Devo and Quasi (whos is a dual teamer anyway) go to extremes to get the tag- Q spent 3 hours following bad advise on Saturday for OLD Porirua Road - no tag has EVER been as well earned as that one so ...

I have gotten over the whole 'distance' thing as I too have been in rush to claim/post and just grabbed an easy TAG while passing

I know how Hawkeye feels, but its just the way the game evolved,
I see it as a bit of fun competition- with spies- submarines- sattelites- misinformation trails- lol its all bloody good fun

300

I say "300" should be put aside for the coming weekend (even if we do 301 onwards before oficially doing 300 imo) and the 300 should be the biggest group tage we can arrange-
Maybe all meet at TAG #1 , Petone Wharf, and have a mass ride to Manfield to take 300 with SketchY as he cant be there otherwise (and none can doubt HIS commitment to the game)

Weather permitting of course

21st September 2009, 19:42
I must confess that I understand Hawkeye's viewpoint. I like the game when it motivates you to ride or makes you discover the region. I like it less when it's all about racing to the next tag and dropping the new one nearby. I have at times stopped looking at the thread for a few days (my God, I was almost ready for rehab'!) because there was no point in even considering the tag as it was consistantly too far away or required intimate local knowledge. Oh, and I hate file pictures unless there is a really good reason for it (it's all about riding, not tagging).

At some point in the game, I asked myself if my tags were interesting and if I wasn't starving the game from other riders. That's when I decided to select my tags more carefully and focus more on riding (coincidentally, I was also very busy with other things for the past month and ran short of time for the tags).

I think it's the nature of the game to evolve and for players to leave or join. I still enjoy keeping an eye on the thread and grabbing the occasional tag, and I'll be happy to finally meet the crew (well, not this week-end as I'm flying to Europe for 3 weeks on Saturday).

Just my 2c.

[edit] Not trying to put people off, but thought I'd be the devil's advocate as, by definition, only those who agree with the game would be reading this ;)

And now, where is this tag again?

Sketchy Snr
21st September 2009, 21:12
Only thing i would like to add is that file picks i feel are a necessary thing because when i used to go out after getting a tag how many times did i get home to :wait: :wait::wait::wait: ( this included you to Hawkeye if your reading ), so the pressure was allways on. Personally i like them as they are usually a well spotted and thought out Tag. Different players bring different knowledge and personalitys which is awesome to watch so the game is allways changing.
The pressure does come on when a Tag sits as none of us want to be behind the computer seaching so once again the pressure comes on to place a quick Tag.
While Janns tied up doing Uni assignments i'm free so watch your backs

This is coz of poor workmanship BeemA
Buells as a rule are farkin reliable- mate Rob's I just sold for him was a nice bike fired every time and could stop on a dime as well as roar like a beast-

Seriously thinking Buell when Suzy gets retired- (at least 2 years away) LOL
All the traits of the big v twins and style, power, sound, style...style......... style............ mmmmmmmmmmm

yes but where do Buells in wellington come from/get serviced

Your dead right there Laxi-

I have had EVERY major player in town except Boyles make a blue on one of my bikes over the years
WMCC have had some bloopers but they all have :2guns:

I still got to TSS despite a few hiccups - it was a bad day, so what they made it right later and as old Alan himself used to say

a mate recomended 1 of the hutt shops to me (not going to mention the name) used them 2 times, 1st time they fn raped me $700 to clean my carbs, then forgot to tighten a clamp on the water hose, freakn leaked all over my leg at some lights 2 days later! mate said give em another chance so went to get a warrant from same shop, failed on 13 items ( funny 1 was he didn't turn the ignition on to check indicators ) took bike to vtnz, new chain, lube brake & clutch levers, rewire horn, and got a new warrant

I try to do as much as possible myself where I can.
A) Because my Beast is 22 years old, is very rare over here and it takes a while to get parts, so I research as much as possible about the job that needs doing ahead of time.
B) Dutch blood - automatically tight with my monies.
C) Love tinkering with all things mechanical - Pity I didnt work that out before I had set myself up in the IT industry.
D) Still trying to find a shop that I feel real confidence in, so far quite impressed with motomart.

D) Still trying to find a shop that I feel real confidence in, so far quite impressed with motomart.

I had an issuewith them on my 600 man over a front tire refit - they left speedo cble wound around the fork and it tore itself out f the housing as I left the driveway- my bitch was having to get MTA involved before the workshop manager would replace the cable

I stopped worrying about it as a rule (which shop I mean) - they all make bloopers
Gonna give Boyles my next Jap sevice job - brothers been goin there for 10 years and no issue ever with service or follow through

Yeah, must admit all I have dealt with them on so far is parts, they just fitted a new Conti rear tyre for me a couple of weeks ago, but being shaft drive and Drum brake I did the full dissasembly myself and just delivered them a wheel to fit a tyre on.
Have my Bike 80% reassembled at the moment after doing My 16 Valve Clearance check and adjusments - now awaiting a new Air Filter Element from the UK before finishing assembly.

Personally - I LIKE IT, it fills the gap on the quiet days and keeps a lot of stuff in perspective, it helps keep the group of players interacting with one another, and helps us keep tabs on where people are at, and what they are up to - it all adds to the Game.

I agree with Scout on this one. Yes, it's sometimes frustrating having to look back through pages to find the current tag, but I find it more frustrating having to monitor two threads and still having to troll through pages to find out what the gist of the convo has been. Just my opinion..

Some don't help themselves - I have been waiting over two weeks for a reply from TSS from an email request for a quote on rear tyre and I sent a follow up with read-receipt - read but no response. Tomorrow the bike goes to Richardson's in Jville for the tyre - if the service is okay it will be bye bye TSS. Might be able to look for a tag after that.

I also CONCUR with Scout on this. The banter evolves from the tag and i dont have the patience to dredge up the discussion thread and make the relevant post. Then disturb the tag thread with a post to say go look at the discussion thread. I like the way we all get together to talk a heap of BS around the tags. It keeps it alive during the quiet times. How about a separate place just to upload the tag pics to, for easy reference? That of course requires upkeep also.

Ok, addressing an issue here we all hold dear to heart...the 'next tag'

We all use file pix when needed simply to keep it rolling

Is there an expected or compulsory time frame a TAG should be up by after youve won it>????

I find it difficult to fathom being willing to ride through hell to GET the tag, if your not willing to ride a little further to get a new one.....

Obviously sometimes, its just too late at night to care, but all the regulars will get one immediately in the next morning...should this be an expectation?

Don't want to discourage anyone by making them think they have to get the new one in x time frame. Circumstances around time of daylight / distance to get to post location home etc all play apart. We just a bit spoilt in the cluster effect of users / tags giving us a normally fast flowing game.

Be nice to bull he's gone 100+ days plus between tags, we've only been waiting a few usable daylight hours.

hey SpaceMonkey. Real sorry to hear that your dad passed on before you got there. He will be resting peacefully now and you will have a lifetime of memories to treasure. Take care mate and see you on a tag somewhere soon

I reckon file pics should be outlawed as you should have to physically go and make a tag after winning the last.

thats the spirit of the game bull, but esp during winter its not a good way to keep the game going...I agree with you but i use file pics now and then.Your tag is a goodie..I sorta can replicate the view ..but not quite right.

I can see both sides of this argument but at this stage I don't have any file pics to post. Having to ride to find a new location adds to the mystique of where is this tag and helps in the analysis of where the tag is based on time since tag claim to new post. Suggestion - a file pic can only be posted if within xx(10)kms of claimed tag? This would help me as there have been few tags where I have been able to identify their location.

The only time i ever intend on using a file pic is if its one from a tag ive missed, cos i always stop to get a new one before i post up the current one. And i always miss out by the 10mins it took me to stop for a new one. Ooops lol.

i think we must put this in perpective.I beleive most tags are fresh pics.If it is a file pic it is ussually declared with a idea of the time it was taken to assist in locating.

For us coasters file pics are an essential part of the game to be able to place tags that players from other regions want to go after. Otherwise we don't stand s chance of being able to grab some of these or you fellas dont stand a chance of grabbin it back, we tend to only use them as hand overs to centralise the game as either the weather closes in or the weekend closes out. They are part of a well established game - I say don't screw with what is working , but use them at your discretion..
Also, I think the 24 hr rule is a fair call but let's not come down on players like a ton of bricks when the new tag gets delayed, often these things are due to unforseen circumstances and players shouldn't be chastised for playing a game with good intention. Let's save THAT for those propaganda slinging idiots at ACC.

P.s. Spacemonkey, I'm sorry for your loss my friend, it must have seemed that the odds were stacked against you as you made the journey north, best wishes to you and the rest of your family.

Im taking a permanent break from Tagging guys
The joy has gone from the game for me

Ill be around on KB a shitload less too...the odd Ridge Run or Wednesday night thats it.

Bald Eagles now BRONZ Wellington bossman, im just gonna worry about being me for a while and get on with my life
Your a great bunch, been fun playing, but new interests and new goals leave me little time for tagging, and the desire to play the game any more has just waned to nothing this last week
