Well today my faithful lil'ol'hornet has finally gone around the clock, it all started so innocently ... TOTO was on MSN and we got chatting, he was still keen for riding - especially when I said I would be completing a milestone for my lil'ol'hornet!

I've owned this little beasty for just over two years now and it's been an interesting experience, it's been my first bike and I have learnt much from it. It's been around the block and been just about everywhere in the North Island, today, finally saw the numbers slide over into 00000 :woohoo:

Basically there was about 280km to polish off and that was done in short order, a little trip to Kaiaua, around the back of Mercer, up through the Hunuas, Twilight road, Whitford, Maraetai and to cap it all off, a visit to Manukau Heads Lighthouse. It was the trip to the lighthouse out from Waiuku which saw the numbers tell the tale! I pulled over and got out the camera for some piccies!

The history of this lil'ol'hornet is a timeline of my biker life, it has helped other bikers gain their licences, influenced a whole new generation of Hornet riders, but most importantly, was there just to be ridden by me ... a whole lot! :wari:

Thanks to all those excellent people that have helped me fix it, provided assistance when I crashed it , complimented it, ridden with it! Way too many to list! So, hopefully, I'll be seeing it around the clock again!

And it goes to show that a bike with high Km's on the clock is still a good and safe buy if it has been well maintained... ;)

So for the lil'ol'hornets pressie, I will be giving it a new paintjob, get some dents hammered out, retouch some of the scuff surfaces and mayhap some braided lines ... might also update the LED system with a remote like his big brother!

Ahh bikes, I lovvies them I does!

I rather think you have a life. Were I you, I would maintain the status quo.

I know of a certain ZX9 that's done 120,000km plus and it still goes hard. Soundly engineered bikes with regular maintainance will do decently high mileages given the horsepower per litre they put out.

To right, my bike's coming up to about 150,000km.

Good onya! As far as I can tell my GB250 is approaching the hundred-thou mark, unfortunately it doesn't have the original odometer though, so I won't be able to watch it tick over :weep:

That was pretty good spotting to get that last zero! I can imagine myself noticing at the last second and going over the front stopping just to get the photo!

How many k's on the Big Hornet now then?

Big Ol'Hornet is on 46900km at the moment, only had him for one year and a bit! :o I think he wants to make sure his lil'brother doesn't show him up!

Daisy my tarty RZ250 is on 89000km thereabouts ... just as well I never intend to get rid of my bikes, their resale value would all be rock bottom! :innocent:

Ayup, always changed oil and filter every 6000km, lil'ol'hornet has had one change of spark plugs and thats about it! Apart from the usual replacement of bits n'bobs due to a plonker of an owner pushing it over Twilight road or losing the front at Raglan! :pinch:

Ive heard of a chap who is a Motorcycle Courier (I think for SUB60) here in the 'City of Traffic Lights' who has a big Hornet (919 / CB900F) and has past the 1/4 Million mark. 250,000 isnt bad for a Motorcycle and I bet he hasnt been babying it either!

nice one Justin- are there any roads on the north island that you haven't ridden? You should get a book out or something. "Round New Zealand with a Hornet" "Zen and the Art of riding your ass off"...

Wonder how much petrol it consumed (and it's worth)...... All the insurance + Rego would cost as much as the bike's price right? Gosh bike's are expensive!

But really, congratulations. Now it's time to shine her up! (and put it in a museum)

I believe its around 170-180 thou km at the moment, as he gets the servicing done at Botany Honda (same as us).

The last 20k on mine (40-60k), its like time has stood still, feels the same as 40k.

Gonna get overtaken by Mr GiJoe at some point shortly

Meh :oi-grr: we both know that any bikes we own, the resale value will have dropped through the floor! ... unless you clock it, then run up moar milage that sounds roughly what is *normally* done in a year by *normal* bikers (is there such a thing?)

Done the oil change on lil'ol'hornet, was sitting there purring away happily - next on the list will be to do a repaint on the tank and tail, new rear hugger, braided brake lines ...

And there has been 1400km added to it now  Being ridden by a lovely Angel who enjoys the riding as much as it does! :scooter:

Tch! :oi-grr: Typical, I share a moment of biking grief and pain and you cut me to the quick sirrah! Lor' knows that was a sore testing time for me, I was at the lowest of lows, the nadir of my senses, forsooth, I was forsaken from the freedom of the vestibule of the biking gods!

There in the laps of destitute denizens of stationary situations I languished!

Oh! How I suffered!
Oh! The pain!

But, wait, what light yonder breaks? It is a portal of opportunity to ride! To make good my loss milage and recoup the sensibilities that sustains my soul!

Verily, I am not vexed, a mildly contentment suffuses, salves and gives balm to my biking yearning.

Tarry not long in the doldrums of confinement, for as bikers we seek new vistas to cast our speculum occularis opon!

Ride ye well ye merry souls and let not the asphalt touch other than thy steed's vulcanised shod hooves!
