View Full Version : What I did in the holidays.... ouch!

Well, what can I say?
Apart from .. Bugger.... Was having the usual heaps of fun at the Sandpit trying to keep up with Grace on my first lap of the MX track, saw a new jump and not knowing what it was like, I slowed down to a reasonable pace to just pop over and have a look. Alas there was a hole on the other side where the dirt had been scooped and I had exactly the right speed to hit the other side front wheel first. Trusty KDX stopped dead (hmm, poor choice of phrase.. ) and of course I didn't.......
Result is many weeks off the bike and camera (needs two hands to operate...)
..Gotta say a huge thanks to everyone who helped, I was convinced I'd dislocated the 'socket' part of the joint and with help from some very willing ladies (inflicting more pain a specialty me thinks) we had a few goes at 'popping' it back in with no success. As it turned out it wasn't separated, so that was really just good entertainment for the gathering crowd....
I’m most impressed with my girls too, soon as I’d left in the meat wagon, they took their bikes off the trailer and rode another 2 hours… Then when they got home, my wife took them to the premier of Harry Potter. What’s a guy gotta do to get some attention?
I also think I lost some credibility when I said “this is worse than childbirth” Not a good comment in such company…Hehe…
THIS IS NO REFLECTION ON THE SANDPIT. Just a slow old fart making a mistake….

We were all very good and kind nurses! One took his shirt off, another took his boots off, another with an ice pack, plenty of sympathy! He was surrounded! Two of us were hovering over him trying to get the shoulder in. It was then Phil commented that this hadn't had this happen to him for 20 years. I did ask him for clarification on what he meant by the comment, 5 women, or his shoulder being out!!
I don't think Grace and Sophie even waited for the ambulance to come as we had more riding to fit in! They didn't seem over upset at his departure strangely! They rock!!! They made a banana cake with bright green icing to celebrate my new KX85!!!

Not good - hope you mend soon.
Good on the girls carrying on riding - what more could they do???
At Tussock when John got carted off we carried on riding until the youngest family member decided she wanted to go check out this place called hospital where Dad was - little did she know we were going to go collect him later anyway

So is that a sepration of the ACL joint?
Did mine and had to drive back from Ahipara to Dargaville, one handed driving is never fun.
Once swelling goes down, i'd say 4-5 weeks and you should be thinking about turning that KDX over again.

i saw that jump too, but it wasnt till i was in the air that i saw it had been dug out in the back of it.
We've actually made it better now. The moat with the bamboo stakes is still there, but we have removed the alligators.:shit:
Looks good clmintie, I did mine two weeks ago, not nearly to the same extent but still damn sore. Funny thing eh when they are trying to put your socket back in when there is actually nothing wrong with the socket. Piers broke his collar bone and St Johns were trying for 45 mins to put his shoulder back in the hole. Swearing and cursing they finally realised the lump on his shoulder was his collar bone sticking out.
Sleeping is a bitch as I can only sleep on my back. Just like a wantum whore eh.
Always a something new at The Sandpit but we never try to make things dangerous. Said jump has been attacked with the tractor late at night and the aligators removed.
Get well soon buddy.

hell yeah sleeping is an arse, i spent the first week sleeping sitting up each time i broke my colabones, its not fun at all, i found that if you try to do lil things and keep moving you heal a bit faster.

I'm finding this amazingly pain free, I've got a huge pile of pain meds, but so far haven't needed any, other than homeopathic... Sleeping on my right side is less stressful, cause when on my back I snore and receive persistent attacks of pain (finger nails usually) in my side.......

Your going to have a nice lump on your shoulder for a every long time, broken collar bone i was written off couldn't do anything. ACL seperation was back at work in two weeks (didn't tell the boss what had happened) and was just using my left hand to move my right hand around.
OOOOuch!!!:shit::eek::doctor::gob:
Heard about it up at the pit today!
Can't say I have ever done that before/yet! (praying not to either) It looks bloody painful!
Good on the girls for carrying on!
Hope you recover quickly. ( sent some flowers)
Ironically seen DK and a mate bombing round the mx track there today. They parked up next to us!

Ooch. How do they get the thing back into correct position and hold it there? Stupid collar bones - you'd think they'd have come up with a better design for holding shoulders in position by now.
Climintie AKA Quasimodo (Quasi-Moto?) the hunchback of Notre Sandpit. The bells Esmeralda, the bells!
Make sure you eat good food for best healing, you're only going to get one chance at it. Maybe get some protein powder from supermarket.

Eh, they leave it like that? Wont that cause all sorts of issues? Mind you my days of being a male model are over after breaking my collar bone. Looks wierd having one shoulder lower than the other.
At least you not in pain.

Really - they don't strap it into position?! How can that be right, how can it heal?
Hang up the bikini mate, your inner beauty shines through. Always impressed with your devotion to your kids. Hope you're not thinking about giving up riding just yet though.
Edit: Surely they must be able to do something for it. Eg. Recent pics of Burga after surgery, now has matching collarbone scars both sides - good symmetry for modelling.

In a way, being taken for granted means you're doing a good job as a dad - you're reliable. Kids will likely appreciate you a lot more as they get older.
I think blokes are often a victim of their own culture especially with pain/injury ie, shoulder the burden without complaint and battle on. Sympathy not much use, but a bit of Empathy often goes down well. We feel your pain bro's.

They don't..... The xray is taken while holding 5l of water in a bottle. It's much closer without the weight pulling everything apart. Prognosis is good.....Nothing broken, the collar bone and the AC joint are only held by ligaments (well, other peoples are anyway...)
The more I ride, the more interesting stuff I learn about my body...
Still waiting for hospital follow up appointment.....

I may have left out one male orderly, but his inclusion would have spoiled a good story.......
