NEW BIKE TODAY (with flag)

So I work as a motorcycle Postie. This can be good fun, especially in bad weather. So yesterday my boss says: “Hey, we have some new motorbikes coming in and I’d like you to have one of them to run it in carefully etc. etc.”

“Well thanks,” I say; “but I am really happy with the one I have. I have spent the past 14 months setting it up just how I like it. I know everything about it. I can make left and right full lock turns on any camber. I can recover both front and rear locked wheels and can kick the back end around in the mud to do a 180 without even thinking about it. It’s like an old pair of slippers AND I DON’T WANT TO CHANGE IT – Thanks anyway.”

“OK – As you feel that strongly about it you can keep your old bike and we’ll give the new bikes to a couple of the others.”

“Thanks, I really could do without having to run in a new bike and all the crap that goes with getting it just right.”

So I show up at work this morning AND: “Here’s the keys to your brand spanking new Honda CT110 with 000000 on the clock. Your old bike has been taken away. Sorry. Have a nice day!”

Funny ‘cos they told me I’d be allowed to buy my old bike when it came to the end of its service life.

Faaaaark OK – No point getting upset. Let’s try make the best out of a bad situation.

Front tyre 14psi rear 16psi – easily remedied.
Dry chain – Easily remedied.
Lights & horn work OK – all good.
Rear Brake – OK.
Front Brake – Too tight.

Oh – why’s the fuel tap on ‘reserve’?

Ah, no fuel (it’s gonna be a long day).

30 minutes later after an extended tea break some fuel shows up.

Fantastic – But it just won’t run without conking out. Where’s my old bike?

After some serious new engine abuse (and a small screwdriver), I have my new bike running sweetly.

Maybe they’ll have another new one for me tomorrow!

The bike certainly had a good bedding in today. It will need a bit of tinkering in the morning, but I was pleasantly surpised with how things turned out.

The vast differnece in compression between a 27k bike and a 0k bike was a lot more than I had expected.

Mrs Nudey c/w new baby on the way, has one of those as her company vehicle (she's a Postie too). She reckons if you give them enough herbies and stamp them into first gear, you can wheelstand them. Plus she tells me they're a little short on cornering clearance......sheeez :gob:

Both of those things are probably on account of the crappy suspension.
Still, they're almost unbreakable, so ideal for jobs like this.

There are 14 for sale. I have been promised my old one for $900 however someone high up as suggested putting them on Trademe to get more money.

I don't know if you knows the CT110 but they are incredible workhorses that are very reliable and don't go wrong. These bike have been well maintained (the mechanic comes in once a week) and regularly serviced.

If anyone wants one, assuming I can get more than just one, PM me with contact details and I'll let you know the price.

Cornering is fine, but the CT110 is not the best balanced bike on the road.

They hit about the same time as the pegs. On my second set of panniers too!
I think it's because I'm too heavy.

I'm waiting on a new bike too. I wanted it 3000k ago though, before my clutch is stuffed, as I too am buying my old one.

Those bikes are cool, spent a bit of time spotlighting 'possums and rabbits from one in Taupo years ago. Indestructable bikes and the places they could go was impressive..motor seemed not to annoy the varmints either. Half tempted to buy one for the memories...

There's a better way of doing wheelies - cruise along in first gear at walking pace or slower, weight the gear lever a bit so it isn't in first gear anymore but hasn't gone into neutral, rev it up and release the gear lever so it goes back up into gear, and the front will come up. I do that all day everywhere! :niceone:
