Seeing a lot more bikes on the road lately, so I guess it must be summer. All the fair weather riders must be getting their bikes out of winter storage, dusting them off and hitting the roads :p

I was just thinking that myself this morning. Even saw a courier guy on a cbr 2fitty wearing a t-shirt, so it definetly must be summer.

It certainly feels like it. :) Went for a tiki-tour on the back roads south of Karapiro today, and stopped for a nicotine fix on the banks of the Waikato in the sun. Mmmm mmmm. :sunny:

Got out for the day round the Coromandel last Wednesday too. :D

Bethells is one of those places I always want to ride on a beautiful sunny day. I've been out there heaps, never on my bike though.

I hear that big corner before you come down to the creek crossing has caught more than a few bikers unaware. There used to be a hand painted sign there saying "Please! Slow down!" or something to that effect.

Yes a very viscious corner. A freind followed me out once and had to admit he would not have made it round if He had gone around at his normal speed.

Excellent short ride if you getto know the roads.

You have to watch out for locals using the road as an extension of their driveway but. Always kind of funny watching newbies freak out at the speed bumps though :)

Hell yeah. First place I took the FXR after the post-running-in service was down to Bethells. Lovely sunny day, musta been January this year I think. Scratchy scratchy :D got home a couple of hours late that night... that was the day I realised that I needed to get my toes up on the pegs when hitting tight corners.

Haven't been back since though. It's an lovely, evil little road :p

call me naughty but it's just so nice to ride without gloves. i took a corner yesterday that i can usually take quite quickly, and admit i felt a bit naked, and chickened out and slowed down. had to laugh though...softed out :)

Bikers have always had a little wave of recognition as we fly passed each other, But I notice especially in Auckland this no longer seems to happen, has the country gotten larger all of a sudden.? :argh:

Still exists where I go riding. If its on the m'way thats not surprising as its not always easy to see the other rider

True. I suspect it's because of the whole 'dealing with traffic' thing. I tend to not wave or nod on my daily commute and most other bikers won't either, as far as I've noticed. I'm too busy trying to stay alive and unticketed. Apart from that, it's a bit impersonal when the other rider is 75m away from you going in the other direction down the motorway.

I think you'd find that the same riders would be happily waving away if they were on a 'fun' ride. I got a couple of waves yesterday heading out to Beachlands (it was a long lunch break
:D)

I guess also there are alot of new riders out there, and most from other countrys, maybe they do not understand the brotherhood of the kiwi bike rider. I get alot more nodders out in the back blocks.:niceone:

rode to tokoroa and back today - went the back way, then stopped at tirau for coffe and a scone. very nice. saw 3 other bikes - a dude on what looked like a shadow waved enthusiastically at putaruru, and a couple on a gsx1100 were very friendly. maybe it is an auckland thing?

didn't see ONE cop either - they were all at the house fallen off the truck near tirau i think (not even on SH1 @ cambridge!)

It felt pretty cool when a couple of people on a CBR1100XX waved at me when i was riding the scooter.

The friendly bunch are still out there but like it was said before some new bikers are unaware of the friendly greeting that has become a custom within the biker comunity. Mind you most harly riders choose to be outside this friendly comunity:p

I have found amongst friends that once they buy a harly, it seems to be no longer about the ride and more about themselves. Dont get me wrong I have nothing against Harlys or Harly riders, but I cant stand the smug no-all attitudes that most seem to adopt. If there so on to it, then why do they waist there money on Harleys to ride through traffic everyday. I have riden plenty of harly's. And I feel I can get better enjoyment out of a cheaper running jap bike with a large engine.

Maybe it's not cool to wave. After all, the Fonz wouldn't have waved either.

good point dude. first time I rode my first bike (GPX 250) home from the shop a bloke on a 916 waved to me just as I was coming into Howick. I had no idea I was supposed to wave back but was quite chuffed that a Ducati rider would wave at a goofy looking learner on a 250.

funny that - I always either nod or wave, provided I have seen the other bike.

Harley riders generally seem to wave or nod, but tends to be mostly if you do it first :)

The only people who have never EVER waved back (and still don't), regardless of conditions, are people on scooters... after 12 odd years of being snobbed I'm beginning to think they just don't get it

I think the little wave or nod is one of the greatest things about riding a bike. In fact I mentioned that to some friends today while we were driving somewhere - I noticed they never wave to other cages.

I tend to pass a few bikes a day in my (suburban) commute through Northcote and Glenfield - I always nod or wave when I see them.

Sometimes I don't notice a nod from an oncoming rider until they are nearly passed and always feel bad for not having reciprocated in time for them to see.

I am still waiting to see someone else riding an Across, then I will wave like crazy - I feel so alone on this thing :(

Well it hasn't caught on yet because most are just commuters who bought their machines to get from point A to B with the least amount of expences (I think). But I am out there to do my bit and make a difference by waveing to any friendly fellow scooter rider/biker.

I myself have only come across one scooter rider who waves back. He probably owns a bike as well or is an ex biker. He rides a black Gilera Ice and wears top gear including an Aria RX7 Corssair helmet. If you are reading this dude, you and your scooter looks pretty mean. :niceone:

I thought everyone knew that Harley riders do not wave as they cannot afford to let go the handlebars. The exception being the friendly chaps with ape hangers who (if you have ever followed one) always look as if they are waving.

Oh dear how to make oneself unpopular. :whocares:
