Cary - are you thinking of doing another Coro ride this year?

Triboy - any chance of another Kawhia ride?

Hi Mike, your back from your OE then.

Definitely keen on another TTTTT ride :soon: would suggest early October as daylight savings is with us then and MARKS has posted a ride on ADV rider for the 26/27 September to do the Whanga Rd - Fishers track and the 42nd Traverse.

Hopefully this shitty weather should be almost gone by then :sunny::sunny::sunny:

Re: suitable dates...
I've got plans for a loosely organised coro ride on the last weekend of November (basically I'm organising a party at Fletchers bay that weekend, and you lot are invited :D)
And I was thinking of doing a cruisy BOP ride some time in October, but because I haven't got my crap together and decided on a date, I'll work around everyone else.

he said with the deepest respect :innocent: Do you or Phil have any knowledge of the Jury Rd? Was reading a Mountain bikers book the other day and it claimed the road still existed as a paper road. Apparently the farmer thinks it doesnt but the law says its still there. Had a look on google earth and it looks good :wari:

Dear Mr 'that looks like fun', as a keen farmer myself I can happily say that youall be glad thats its not the paper road across MY farm that you are so extatic about.:devil2:

Respect. Its sadly lacking a lot these days.:nono:

On a happier note, me,myself and I would be most interested in another trip around your area Mike, will keep it in mind if I am free. Might even get a chance to give 'the other side of the fence' kinda story!!!!

[I]Cary - are you thinking of doing another Coro ride this year? Mike

Yep I'll be in for a TTTT.

Was thinking of a late October ride for Coromandel but will have to see what else is going on with Rosie etc.

End of Nov would have been ok Rosie but work is going to get in the way for me to organise a full on ride for that weekend. Will make it up for the night tho.

Will sort one for the last weekend of October although will base it in Coro township. (31Oct, 1 Nov)

I thought a paper road was public property?

Does the fact that someone owns the land either side of a public road give them the right to limit access to it?

The current Rosie-plan is to invite everyone I know to camp at Fletchers bay on the weekend of the 28th/29th. It will be a fairly loosely organised, communal pot-luck self-catering kind of thing, but I'll probably bring BBQ and a marquee-thing (in case of dodgy weather). Saturday I'll likely be mountain biking, so ADVers will have to make their own way to Fletchers bay (or someone else will kindly offer to organise/lead something for that day). Sunday morning I'll be keen for an ADV ride, probably around to Stony bay like we did last year.

Depending on how organised I get, I may be able to arrange beer/food for the ADV crew, to save carrying too much crap on the bikes.

Cool it looks as though there is interest out there. I will have a chat to Phreaky Phil who knows the Naki back roads like no one else I know. Thank you Colin (That Looks Like Fun) you are more then welcome to help.

My initial thoughts are to do something similar to last year, maybe reduce the kms on day 1 slightly. It would be good to get up the mountain somehow too but we need to see how that all fits in.

May also look at what other country pubs are out there who can put up with a bunch of bikers!!

Be great to catch up with you all again (yes even you Marks!!!) KT has been on the battery charger so she is all set to go!

While it is a road, it runs through TeWera forest. I'm not sure who controls the forest but it is not easy to get into. If you get permission you require something like $1000000.00 public liability insurance and last time we tried , the only time we could get in was over winter. In the summer its too dry and no one gets in. Some years ago "Diesel" tried to use the paper road method to gain access for a tunnel tour and the forestry got shitty and said they had survey proof that the road as it exists does not follow the "paper road" and if he used the road they would do him for trespassing. John Nicholson got involved and managed to pull some strings and calm things down and Diesel was able to use it. When I set out the Briiton ADV ride some years ago we managed to gain permission by using the TeWera camp as a base. Last time I enquired this approach didnt work.IMHO Its NOT worth the trouble unless your running a big ride.

There must be a story there that I am not aware of?

Actually there is an old swing bridge that is now closed to 4 wheel traffic that I would like to include in the route (although I need to check how wide the barriers are at each end - I do fit without panniers but not sure about with them!!)

We are looking to hold this ride on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October.

Just sorting out accomodation options at the moment, but we will stay at the Awakino pub on Friday 2.10.09. As those who have stayed there before know this is a great place to start a ride, good food, accomodation and prices!

There will be a visit to the iconic Whangamomona pub for lunch and for those of you who want there will be a chance for a quick look at the world famous Whanga Road.

Saturday night we are looking at staying at a former convent, yes I know that may be a problem for you sinners who ride BMWs!!!

Again a good mix of gravel and tar seal.

Once we have it confirmed I will post a new thread etc with details of how to book your accommodation.

For now though if you are going to do this ride can you reply to this so we can get an idea of numbers.

It would be a very differant story thens my guess!!!:whocares:
