both great books, and great movies. we read outsiders in 4th form. ive read all of her books so many times. i hated how rumblefish never explained why the film was mostly black and white.

they also made 'tex', which i havent been able to find on dvd.

Ah! I know the answer to that!! Because "Motorcycle Boy" was colourblind!!!

Tried to watch the film, but gave up afer the "MB to the rescuce in the ally" sceen becasue of the adverts.

Remind me to not bother watching any films on C4 again.

Yea the ad's sucked the story out of the movie!! Pity!!!
Movies on telly seem to be a waste of time unless you record em!!!

Wow "Outsiders" ... read that too in school ... along with "Black like me". And "Z for Zachariah" ... (scary how I had to teach "Z for Zachariah" when I became an English teacher :gob: I mean ... jeez got to update books!)

Oh yea, the follow-on from "The Outsiders"!!
SE Hinton wrote "The Outsiders" at 16, amazing!!

Are these books banned from English classes now?

Quite controversial wern't they (In the day!)?

Bit like a few other Iconic books...lol (a couple spring to mind:shifty:)

exactly, TGW. but would you have known that if you hadnt read the book?

i did 4th form english in 99, and of course, devoured her books that same year [even liberated one or two from the school library, lol.] im pretty sure they are still studying it, 10 years later. i read z for zacharia as well, but cant remember what year, or if it was something i picked myself. i re-read it recently and wont touch it again. some scenes left me horrified.

cant remember the order, but hintons books are

outsiders
that was then, this is now

A wally lamb - The hour I first believed
Twilight  (you jest!!? LOL - I know!!) A young girl at my local DVD shop was in rapture over the movie, it sounded boring but then I heard the book was good, but I find it a bit labouring and I'm only half way!!!

im not sure where she gets them from. she has a gothic shop and has ordered in a dvd for me before without any trouble.

i havent read twilight... doesnt really sound my thing. whats alchemist about? im really looking forward to the new dan brown. have reserved a copy.

The alchemist is a "fable about following your dream"!
A pilgrimage on how life should just be. It is "New Agey"

The book is full of symbolism and metaphors, but it has the most beautiful passages in it.

It's kind of ( but not really) like the celestine prophecy, in the journey it takes you (but that's about it in comparison)

It is an adventure story but it is also a pilgrimage, the way the author places words together is mind blowing.

It has really touched me:

"Everyone on earth has treasure that awaits him," his heart said.

"We, people's hearts, seldom say much about those treasures, because people no longer want to go in search of them.

We speak of them only to children.
Later we simply let life proceed, in its own direction, toward its own fate. But, unfortunately, very few follow the path laid out for them - the path to their destinies, and to happiness.

Most people see the world as a threatening place, and, because they do, the world turns out, indeed, to be a threatening place.
So we, their hearts, speak more and more softly.
We never stop speaking out . . "

An example of beautifuly laid out passages.
Tis hard to describe, very deep, and very beautiful!!!

Oh, Dan Brown, I have the inaugural Davinci Code, which started my interest in Leonardo Davinci.
Liked the Theory behind Angels and Demons, but the story bored me LOL
What's the latest novel coming out?
