Who binned on the Takas yesterday? (2 April)

Mrs H, Craig and I were coming back from the Wairarapa yesterday in time to see the Fire Service hosing the road down about halfway up where some biker had binned big time. Great skidmark on the wrong side of the road -- straight as an arrow, and aimed at the armco on a right-hander. Looks like somebody was passing, was going way too quick, locked everything up and then had a bad case of "target fixation".

No death reports, but it had to have hurt! Hope it wasn't "one of ours"...

At first sight it gives you a hell of fright to see the police paint markings. They weren't there yesterday. My first thought was "Oh shit I hope the rider survived in one piece" Must have got a hell of fright seeing where he/she was about to hit the armco and the big drop on the other side. As you said Hitcher the skid mark starts on the wrong side of the centreline so rider was probably pulling back in from a fast pass then "oh shit I can't slow in time" or something like that. Just scared me that the Police don't usually put the nails into the road as well as the paint unless it's a serious crash. Although the armco appeared unscratched - apart from fluoro paint?
Who's noticed the similar markings straight into the rock face about half way up from the Featherston side. The Police had a sense of humour and sprayed the rock wall- about head height! Sort of expect to see a body outline next time.
About now I should apologise in advance that the moment of doubt the skid mark caused didn't slow any of us down. Talk about target fixation though you can look at it and just feeeel the force pulling you towards the spot on the armco.

Yep, I saw it today as well.....LLOONNGG skid mark...but the armco doesn't look too bad.

Speaking of body outlines, have you seen the one a couple corners down (i think) from Jims corner????

I was wondering that myself. Hitcher, did you see me coming down the hill as you were coming up (just before the accident)?

The bike looked like a MV Agusta Brutale but I didn't really get a good look as the fireman was trying to hose me down as I was going past.

Yeah I’d heard it was an MV from some guys who’d come over in a car, we were on the bike & I wondered why the line started on the wrong side of the road. Rear brake locked from there seems weird -must have been panic mode or inexperienced.

Not me. Mine was tucked away in the Garage while I was in Melbourne for the weekend. I haven't heard from either of the two other Brutale owners in wgtn.

But then it's hardly something I'd expect them to ring me up about "Hey Matt, guess what I did in the weekend ......"

I saw a crash damaged Brutale outside Motorad yesterday. Perhaps that could be the one from Saturday although it did not appear too bad - left side pegs broken off and a bit of scuffing on tail piece and bar end but mirror was intact. Leave it up to you Lynda to pursue further if you wish (they have a tasty MV F4 in window and 3 Ducatis so well worth a visit if you have not been there lately).

So there was another Brutale rider in Wellington that I didn't know about. I'm losing my touch!

And I've found out that I actually know the bloke too, he came on one of our rides a couple of months ago on his previous bike - really lovely guy. mangell6 and bugsplat: you met him on our Castlepoint ride.
