Well, i like to do things a little differently so i decided to break a sleeve and drop it onto the crankshaft. head looks quite good but barrel and piston have seen better days ... see photos. I'd actually finished the race.... bloody enjoyable race too... then heard a few clangs. surprisingly still had a touch of compression

I'm on the lookout for a new barrel if someone has one kickin around....... or an FXR...... or both..... maybe if someone wants to throw an FXR in with the barrel??

well i just did the obvious and hooked the lip of the sleeve out because now the lip and the rest of the sleeve arent mates anymore. when i look at the cracked surface of the sleeve its carbed up qute a lot so it suggests that that had happened a wee bit earlier... who knows when. maybe ages ago and the piston is unrelated. dunno. anyone seen this kinda thing before??

never seen that done before... christ to move a sleave takes a shit load of PSI, thats nuts man... job well done.

I'd say if the sleave shows damage at the bottom, evadance of hitting the crank then the top ring rose above the broken sleave and broke up doing that damage to the piston, I asume the valves are ok if the head is? bloody amazing if so.

Cliff Bond in Ferry rd can machine and fit a new sleeve but it'll be around $300-350 going on what they quoted me

Or an Alloy sleeve with Nicasil coating about $800 :lol;

theres every chance I can get you a barrel and 2x piston kits for under $200 a rebore will cost about $60... might be able to find exhaust valves if needed, inlets are rear.

I've got a pair of 0.25 OS piston kits for $130. Thats all I have left for the CB-T....unless you want rings.....i don't think just rings will cut it:blink:

CMAC dropped a valve, he didn't think there was damage to the head so a new valve and he should be sorted

seems to be an issue with them, is it common or just lots of bad luck?

See here for the story on the black beast >> http://www.fxr150.co.nz/discussion/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=101 and we can talk after that, might even be keen for a trade in on the dead cb125 ;)

In this case the adjuster had unwound until just the rocker was hitting the valve putting side thrust onto it and it broke at the collet groove, normally they drop the heads off when they are continually over revved, beats me how K14 hasn't done one yet

Quiet, I am riding it this weekend! You're paying the bill if it stops working :spanking:

As to the other CB125T that shat itself.....
Kick got it right, rogue adjuster went walkabout.
Unfortunately it's not just the valve. The stem seized in the guide as well (probably because of the side thrust) and the gear at the bottom of the clutch has half a tooth chipped off:cry: .... so
I'm looking for a new intake valve, and guide and a clutch basket - bugger.
On the bright side, she was going really well (until lap two!).

A guide is easy any decent automotive machine shop can make one, Cliff Bond made one for me a few years back when I did the same, Mike Jones or someone similar can probably rebuild the gear if you can't find a clutch basket

to be honest.. i dont think it is a over rev thing, mine lost the adjuster nut aswell.
K14 might use locktight

You saying I dont? nothing wrong with my mechanical tinkering, been adjusting those things on Honda's and Guzzi's not to mention many pongo cages for 25yrs.

zakery... ohh but did you not just rebuild the engine AHHHHHHHH :niceone:

Ouch! - Actually, I'm with Dangerous on this. I've been doing these for 40 years and never had one come loose (and I aways go around them all when I have finished and give then another tighten and check).

As mentioned, I've been thinking that I will locktight them when I reassemble.

Kick - thanks for the comment re guide and gear.

What I meant was did you tighten them to the correct torque value, or like you say just go over them with a spanner and guess if they are tight enough.

Every bolt and fastener has a correct value, I bet Ray Clee uses a torque wrench on his motors. I think the main reason people dont bother is they dont own the tools.

heres a table of correct values for different grades of materials

Fair enough :Police:- I don't have a torque wrench for ring spanners , only sockets - so I guess your remark about correct tools is right on.:niceone:
