I haven't ridden with them myself however a customer that rides fairly assertively now swears by them.
He found them to be very stable with good feedback and got nearly 2000kms more than the 2CT's that he usually runs.

The Shiver is up for new tyres in about 2,000km. I am currently spoilt with interesting options...

None of the UK or US Blackbird boys use them at present but they lasted well on a 'busa going round and round on a test track at the launch (well they would under those circumstances ).

The Angels apparently outlasted the other test mule that Pirelli was using for the 12-hour launch event...

Anyone have any comment on this that would help my decision?

Lol, anything else to add that would swing my next tyre choice towards these instead of; Storms, road attack, PP2ct etc?
Or are they just another sport touring tyre made by a big name and just on par with rest?

1st fact
PIRELLI SETS 24HR WORLD DURATION RECORD on new ANGEL ST
Narḍ (Lecce, Italy) March 14-15th 2009 – Pirelli and international journalists recorded a new 24-
hour World Duration Record at the Narḍ Technical Center aboard at 2009 Suzuki Hayabusa,
covering a distance of 5135.071 km (3190.8 mi) at an average speed of 213.96 km/h (132.9
mph) using only one set of Pirelli’s new Angel ST sport-touring tyre, a road tour simulation
equal to 12,000 km (7,500 mi) at normal speeds.
2nd fact
Purchase a set from me, and if after 1000k you DO NOT HONESTLY like, I will refund your money, and take the tyres back.:msn-wink:
Now PM me your size choice, and I will look into the price for you

Check out how many ROAD races Pirelli have won at the Isle of Man TT and Nth West and the Ulster Gp, and you will trully understand why Pirelli is the very best Road tyre out there, they have been there and done that, and still are growing

I've had Strada's and liked them except they wore out by 10k. First set of PR2's lasted 12k so quite impressed with them.
Current set has 4k on them and when they're stuffed I'll definitely be considering the Angels. So far the Concours forum seem to be liking them...

After a suboptimal experience with the Conti Motions (cheap is as cheap does) I may well try the Angels at the next change -- just before Christmas, as I reckon there may be another 3-4,000km in the Motions. Who knows. They're getting pretty shabby.

I can't believe you still use them and are going to put up with them for that many more kms!
I swapped mine out for different tyres as soon as I rode into Auckland, after picking up the Hornet from Wellington (which was aleady wearing them) and sold them on trademe.
I could'nt get rid of them soon enough!
If I can find the right price i'm definitely going with the Angels, my PP2cts are ok but I just don't quite like them as much as my old Road attacks, which were great. I am very impressed with the way they have held their shape though, they have'nt squared at all and they've had a bit of motorway time with a pillion and they still have a good shape to them.
It's not like I have money to throw around but i'm kinda looking forward to wearing out my Michelins so I can get these new Pirellis on and see for myself! (this won't be anytime soon, i've done about 3-4 kms on them and they still look brand new, they do'nt look to be squared at all)

;) Keep an eye out next year on the Conti front then - there is something special coming . . . . .
As far as Motion goes, it's a budget tyre, and designed with cost being a big consideration.
Having said that, if you compare it to other tyres at similar cost (MEZ4, Z6, old pilot Road etc) they stack up well. Same old story though, you get more tyre when you spend more money :2thumbsup

I'd be interesting in a direct comparison between the Angels and the PR2 which I am presently using and am impressed with for my bike and my riding.
One thing - the whole 'Angel-Demon' thing - must be an Italian image thing, it's just a bit of gay marketing to me!
What's Continental up to eh? Time for a dual compound sport-touring tyre to replace the Road Attacks? I have read recently that they are committed to gaining a much higher % of the motorcycle tyre market.

i threw an Angel ST on the front of one of our BMW R12000RT's(120/70 ZR 17)
so far after 3000km it is looking nice and composed with no appreciable loss of shape or wear to speak of.
I took the thing for a thrash to Waipu and back two up,and would have to say the front felt planted and nicely predictable, which is what i like from a front.
The rear was a Diablo Strada,so a Pirelli combo which worked very nicely.
:2thumbsup
On the subject of Continental Motions,we now run them on our SV 650's and like them a lot.the Dollars-Kilometers ratio stacks up well compared to most out there. They feel fine too,but i am sure a trackday or hard road ride would show up the limitations of the carcass construction which i must say feels a bit soft.

Wow, you certainly took what I wrote out of context.
Obviously I won't be riding them harder than Shaun would, but like most at least semi-intelligent consumers, I like a little bit of information in regards to a $600+ purchase......especially when there is a lot of good competition.
The only thing he'd previously written were, "bloody awesome" and "black and round", which describes quite a few different tyres......
I thought it was a pretty straight forward question really........

I thought it was a pretty straight forward question really........
You would think so wouldn't you? Well obviously you did.
However reality is somewhat different isn't it.
It's obvious from all the "I love this tyre/I hate that tyre" threads and the fact the fred binned on these, yet marty recons they're the best thing since sliced bread that most don't know jack shit about tyres, and that in very many cases a tyre that works well on one bike doesn't necessarily work well on another.
Hence I place more credence on what poeple say on tyres on a bike model specific forum, however I digress.
I gather Shaun may however know jack shit and he says they are good. suffice to say that no matter how technical or enlightening Shauns dailog could have been you still wouldn't be able to interpret it for your use. The ONLY way you will know for sure if they work for you on your bike for your usage is to try them.

Indeed. These were the replacements recommended to me by Phil at WMC. And a mighty fine recommendation they have turned out to be. More than happy with the handling. More than happy with the confidence these inspire in the wet and slippery conditions of late.
When they eventually are up for replacement, a new set of angels will be going straight back on

I thought about an angel for the rear 2000kms ago and then fitted a BT016. First ride up the takas and the wear was showing, then after a quick run around the water towers, Mauriceville and Pahiatua track the rear sides looked ugly and molten. Now I wait for 3 - 4ks to fit angels front and rear.

I have just returned from the Burt Munro and my Angels have now completed 5200 miles which is about 8500 km and they stil have 4mm tread in the centre of the rear . I have been up and down the motorway on them since the end of July and just peeled off 2017 miles around the South Island and back including a 1 day trip from Nelson to Dunedin via the west coast and Haast Pass and being 2 up all the way back from Invercargill with gear . Wet weather grip is outstanding and an improvement on the Stradas which spin if you try hoisting in the rain . Handling is neutral and marginally slower turning then the Strada but still ok . These tyres rate very well in my book and will be the first set I run to the end for a while .

Ha ha ! good guess :)
Road Attack 2 has just landed.
It gets continuous compound, so is 20% more durable than the original, while also offering 20% more side grip - dry or wet.
Continuous compound is not a dual compound, but is a linear change from hard to soft across the width of the tyre - no seams or changes, just a linear change, which gives a durable centre with a sticky shoulder for maximum grip.
It also has "traction Skin" which is a pre abraided surface, so run in time is massively reduced, while safety during run in is massively increased.
And lastly, the front tyre is now a new carcase which steers better, and is more agile while retaining a high degree of stability and predictability.
This is a seriously good piece of kit, and has features that are aimed at real world riding - we're VERY excited about it, as are the technicians at Continental. I spoke with the compound designer, and he's just fizzed about it.

The contis of today are a totally different tyre. I prefered my old Road attacks to my new Mich PP2cts onboard now. I've never had such bad slippage on a front tyre, and i've had a lot more skitterish moments than with the contis I had.
I don't usually notice these things so much but it has been definitely noticeable for me.
There are guys with Hornets running PR etc that like them but i've not liked my Michellins from the minute I put them on really.

I have just about worn out a set of conti motions at 6000k which dissapoints me as i was lead to believe I would get a lot more
my riding is mainly spirited weekend riding with some motorway work (north shore to hamptondowns regularly)

Just put angel st on the back ,half worn rosso on front, did a quick 45km run in , no scary moments , no chicken strips left either, Different bike to ride thru gone to a 180/55 from std 190/50 , really drops into corners . Some relearning on next few rides.

Have to do this week before I make up my mind , the 180/55 angel st seems to have sharpened the cornering , Original fitment was 190/50 on the tuono. May go back to it.
After some major slips last 2 weeks , decided to ditch the back rosso, getting the last 1000km was going to be a test on the nerves. Think it was mainly slipping as I was leaning ova and hitting the edge of the flat spot, still solid as when cranked right over in a corner and on the gas.

Better profile for most rear tyres, compared with a 180/55 on a 6" rim. I'd also like to maximise my contact patch at more extreme lean angles. My various rear tyres on the Shiver have never had chicken strips on them. I'm thinking that that can't be a good thing.

First rally last weekend , noticed the 180/55 very sharp in the steering compared to the 190/50, just look at the corners and bike falls into them. similar thoughts to you hitcher, only one ride and no chicken strips, see what i think after a few thousand k's thru.

Happy with mine, the wear appears good, I am not a fast rider and am happy to have chicken strips but these certainly have been confidant enough reduce the size of mine from normal.

I've now done a whisker under 8,000km on mine and the rear is only just starting to show signs of squaring off. I've run that pretty consistently at 40psi since new.

Have you had a chance to use them in the wet yet? I'm seriously considering getting some.......in fact unless they're really really expensive compared to the new Road Attack 2's they will be my next tyre.

Great stuff Mr Hitcher! Do you plan to try out the new Avon Storm 2? Must be about time you had another review thread on sport touring tyres I reckon!

No wet weather riding has been had on these yet.
I saw a set of the new Conti Road Attack 2s the other day. "Interesting", I thought briefly, until I remembered past suboptimal experiences with Road Attacks and Motions. I'm not a "third-time-lucky" kind of guy.
If Mr Avon has got the new Storm 2s competitively priced, I may try a set on my next change. Otherwise I may do a double innovation: going for a grippier front in addition to a 190/50 rear.

to a 190/50 rear.
With a 5.5" rim?
Even if everyone says don't do it, or is this just something you have to try?

Ohhhh! That's three sets of tyres I want to try now! (I have never tried the Storms but have always wanted to/Storm 2 would be the go though if I went that way)
Hmmm, I guess I ca'nt complain, i've got three really well reviewed tyres I can choose from (Angels, Road Attack 2 and Storm 2) and if I ca'nt decide the good old "guy" method will decide.......(eaney meaney miney cheapest!)

The Shiver has a 6" rear rim.

That's a trifle over the top, isn't it?
I hadn't heard about the Storm 2 - it's another option for when the rear storm on the VFR finally decides to wear out....
I've had a new Storm on the front for nearly six months and the rear tread is still legal. I think this is the first time that's happened, although with the last VFR I had the odd front tyre or two develop some AB Normal wear patterns.

Mine were a bit dearer than that but I'm finally on a set. Might have to put some miles on them this weekend. Target km to beat from last set of PR2's = 12,048km...

Connie. There's some pics of the PR2's before they came off on my blog if you're interested.
