Came past the roundabout at the top of the North Western, this arvo. Saw an obviously frustrated biker parked in no-man's land in the middle of the roundabout. I pulled over and learned his Suzuki Marauder was having an attack of the vapours.
Drove home. Got Zimmer transport van and drove back. Took bike and frustrated rider home to his place.
On the way he mentioned that dozens of bikers had gone past and not one had stopped to render assistance.
Come on, folks. That's not the biker way. I'll bet some KBers drove by.
Remember, what goes around comes around.
Do any of you remember the account I gave of the guy who loaned me his XR6 to get home from the middle of nowhere when Zimmer's transport van spat the dummy?
You might remember my van broke down, at about 8 at night, on the way back from a long hard racing weekend at Taupo. And that having stopped in a farm entry the farmer came out, towed my van off the road, then gave me the keys to his XR6 saying, 'Just take it. Go home, have a good night's rest and come back tomorrow to fix the probs with the van.'
That's the Kiwi way. Today was my chance to balance the books.
Karmic credits are a good thing to have.

Nice work dpex.
Karma would have noted your efforts from today down.
Sadly many on m/cycles today havn't a clue about the code of riders.
Ixion needs to establish nation wide night classes in "the code".MHO

That bloke only gave you the XR6 cos he was trying to get rid of it. He was probably gutted when you took the bastard back.

Good on ya mate.Ever thought that there may be a lot of Bikers out there now who wouldn't now where to start looking or what they would be looking for if they broke down ? I would say theres a few out there that just put gas in , ride and the local motorbike shop does everything else, just a thought:(

Still no reason not to stop.
Even if you cannot provide technical assistance there are other ways you may be able to help.
A lift to the servo for fuel. A cell phone call (perhaps from the next town - country roads may have no reception). A push if the battery be flat.
And if nothing else, at least some words of commiseration and encouragement. It's a lonely feeling stranded on the roadside.
A biker ALWAYS stops. No matter what.
It is the biker commandment and gospel.
Those who passed by today may now slink covered in shame and cuntumely

Yup. That describes this guy, perfectly. But he's a biker, so that's all that matters

Referring to Frosty's by line which reads "Lets clear up bike terms: "Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the bike. "Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the bike. "Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence. "Torque" is how far you take the fence with you."
I was reading some very interesting data from a whole other discipline in which I'm interested and found the following. Scarey stuff.
It's about moving objects and kinetic energy. Here's the formula.
KE= 1/2 (w) X V squared.
W= weight. V = velocity.
And so, take a standard 600CC bike weighing in at say, 170Kg. Add a rider at say 90Kgs. Now have that pair arrive at an immovable object at 100Kph.
You've all heard of foot/pounds, eh? For those that haven't, foot/pounds is the energy required to lift one pound (.45 KGs) one foot (245mm).
If you work the formula through you will see that coming to an all-stop (like hitting a tree, at 100kph) means you will hit said tree with a force more or less equal to 75,000 foot/pounds. In other words, with energy sufficient to lift 75,000 pounds one foot off the ground. In other words, the same energy required to lift nearly 57 average cars off the ground.
Imagine the forces induced when you hit something coming the other way when you're both doing 100Kph?
Just thought I'd put that in.:--))

One foot is 305mm.. (304.8)
