...and the Russians still don't regard the Katyn massacre as a war crime. Shows the Russians still like to screw the Poles over.

"But Putin argued Moscow had no choice, blaming Western leaders for failing to oppose Hitler's appetite for territorial expansion"

Ah huh? So Soviet territorial expansion 1937 onwards, including invading Finland in 39, was ok?

Well at least the Germans know when to say sorry.

Poor Poland, get it in both ends every time the neighbours get a god complex. Yep the Russians were actually worse (believe it or not) on the Poles than the Germans. But both severely messed with them (Germans on Jewish, Russians on everyone else) and changed their future by knocking off their scholars and leaders, imprisoning the intelligent or killing them. That screwed them up for a verry long time.

Russia will continue to have small countries they gobbled up with force, like Lithuania, Latvia etc... divide back off to be their own entities again. They surrounded and aimed big tanks at Lithuania when they announced that wanted independence. This part of the world has an amazing history of violence and aggression, and its still there today. Remember the Beslan horror and see what can happen when the small guys fight back to make a statement. The Russian Govt is soo screwed up they blame the terrorists for this, as in no way can this be because of what they have done. Hmm messy.

"To the people of Russia, whose fate has been deformed by a totalitarian regime, the sensitivity of Poles over Katyn, where thousands of Polish soldiers lie, is well understood," Putin wrote in what appeared to be an unusually strong criticism of the Soviet government from him.

Putin called for "joint grief and forgiveness" in the hope that "Russian-Polish relations will sooner or later reach such a high level of true partnership," as Russian-German ties.
I take it you concentrated on the sensationalist title quite alot.

In war, no side has clean hands. And the winners get to write the history.

Not in this case. Both warmongers made a ton of enemies and resorted to communism, and dragged eastern europe into the shitter with them.

The secret weapon that broke WW2, was developed in 1939! (October 25 to be exact!)

Once the enemy understood what they were up against, they knew their war was over, so they quit unconditionaly!

The Jap's were slower learners than the Germans but they worked it out in the end.

The weapon in question is "still" top secret to this very day!

If I told you what it was I would probably have to kill you!

That was a very rare comment from them. I wonder how much of that the Russian state controlled media will tell the people. And I understand Russian teachers are now being asked to not paint Stalin in a bad light anymore and that he wasn't responsible for the death of millions.

Russia at the moment is trying to revive its glory days and think Putin is trying to live that dream.

Putin conveniently forgets that Germany based their airforce on Soviet soil to rehearse the "blitzkreig" tactics.

Neville Chamberlain didn't really help the situation.

Although it could be argued that he bought vital time for Britain...he was also a key mover in the setting up of the SOE, so as with all things it's worthwhile reading beyond the headlines...

I googled it.....Nylon Stockings......
( was it not cracking the Enigma code at Bletchly Park????
The Yanks cracked the Japs codes very early on)

The Polish were not adverse to a bit of invading themselves....annexed part of Czechoslovakia when the Germans grabbed it.

Yeah, we don't exactly love the Poles for that one. To this day.

Poland at times was huge, which included all of what is now Belarus and much of Ukraine and Lithuania. Most borders in Europe have moved back and forth, plenty before WW1 and a lot after. Slovakia or what it is now has attacked both Poland and Czech, as they were their own country but wrapped up in the Czechoslovakia name tag. They had their own dialect of Czech or actually Slovakian language, and still do. So parts of, or rather people from certain areas fought to claim their own land as they saw it. No-one is clean and or situations as clean cut as we might think. Poland (Czech too) in recent times (last 100 years) has copped a lot of crap from bigger more powerful countries, and Russia has had the biggest influence, for example Russian language was a compulsory part of Polish school curriculum until 14 or 15 years ago. Strangely enough the Russians helped keep Germans out near the end of WW2, but the Poles, and maybe the Czech's, paid a massive price.

There will always be localised history and legends from areas of eastern europe that are overlooked and are horrendous. But the big picture will show that eventually the Brits came to help and as well as the Americans who liberated much of Czech and Poland. A fact is that this area is eternally grateful to the Yanks (amongst others) as many monuments, statues etc contest.
