Mr Pope said police were still working out what type of offending this would cover, but it would probably be crimes prosecuted under the Summary Offences Act, which included disorderly behaviour, vandalism, tagging and indecent exposure.

It would mean those involved would not have to be processed through the lengthy justice system.

I do not like the sound of this.
Picture this, A party at a beach...
its 8 pm and a few trouble makers turn up...
by 9 pm the police turn up and by 10pm everyone at the beach who didn't run fast enough has a CRIMINAL RECCORD...
- 3 for indecent exposure(aka urinating on that tree over there)
- 2 for disorderly behavior (that charge is such bullshit, they can do you for yelling out the window of a car)
- 5 of the trouble makers escaped, only one of them was caught and he is going to court to get off charges of drinking in public

What ever happened to public opinion? The NZ police need to start a forum like this one so they can learn what the masses really want. Who knows, maybe the majority actually want a little violence to spice up thier otherwise dreary lives... maybe they want people to die on the roads because the world is already overpopulated. Who knows? There's only one way to find out.

- until your 3 year old enjoying his day at the beach cuts his foot requiring 100 stitches because some fucking loser left their rtd bottle in the sand, you won't understand how much some people despise this behaviour
- unrinating in public place has its own offence, so it's not indecent exposure
- disorderly actually has 2 offences - one simply behaving in disordely manner (like shouting out the car window at 2am waking everyone up), the other is likely to cause violence (faling short of an assault)
- drinking in public is only an offence if there is a liquor ban bylaw. it stopped being a public place offence in 1980. being drunk in a public is usually disorderly or offensive behaviour.

Herald websites got a majority vote in favour so far. Harold Poll Smoker (http://dynamic.nzherald.co.nz/poll/pub/polls/index.cfm?action=results&pollid=9B483BE1-AB56-6535-68A86F9574B3573F&CFID=628901&CFTOKEN=7db3afbbe484b816-288FCD76-CA89-4F59-540DA26B1CEDA81C)

Trust a Herald Poll. Haha, think about WHO they're polling. Anyway... the solution isn't in heavier policing, it's in acknowledging a significant sector of society is in need of thier own designated area to hang out, break bottles, piss on trees, and generally do what teens do... get drunk and act like dicks, and if the rest of society should learn some tolerance toward people yelling out car windows (victimless crime) we'd save a fortune on tax for policing, and probably all have more understanding and respect for each other too. Maybe there will be a day when some Herald reading toff spots a drunk boyracer having a shit behind a tree in a public park and hands him the politcal section to wipe his arse with:msn-wink:

i like the idea in some ways, if it were similar to a speeding ticket where you can take it to court if you want to fight it, rather than having a shit load of people turn up to plead guilty,

as teh two arguments put above about the beach scene, one group's fun is another ones hell,

the beach scene was all i could think of at the time, the REAL ISSUE IS THAT MANY YOUNGER PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET FUCKED OVER BY THE POLICE, just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

officer 1 "we dont even need to take this one back to the station, lets just give them all reccords and go to teh next party"
officer 2 "yep sounds like fun"
ginger "i want to frame them for more than just these, cant we take at least one back to the station"

if you were innocent, you would get left alone, and if you think you were in the right you could fight it, i don;t see the problem

the truth is the courts are tied up by alot of paperwork that does not need to be done for minor offenses, it would cost the country a whole lot less to do the same thing, give people a slap over the wrist

Bullshit, there are too many cops who take things too far and target innocent bystanders.

Exactly. And what kind of position is the prime target in to defend themselves in court anyway? The judge would shit on them just on appearance alone, not to mention the capital needed to defend oneself.

scott411

i think the cops do not have enough powers, and need to have a few more, the truth is they are not feared enough, if you new you were going to get maced or smacked with a paddy stick if you did not listen to them you wold have far less problems with out of control crowds,

and the term innocent bystander is a subjective, if someone is sitting watching and encouraging anti social or illegal behaviour in my opinion they are not that innocent.

I think someone needs to grow some balls. You're basically saying that you're too wimp to defend yourself or even put some effort into the notion, and yet you expect someone witnessing thier pairs commiting crime to intervene? As if you would. Take some boxing lessons or something. Trust me, the cops aren't anywhere near as tough as you seem to think they are. Best bet is get hard, and depend only on yourself. The law is always there if you need it, cops or no cops.

i am not saying they should intervene at all, i am saying that if you are watching, then don't get the fuck out of the way when directed to you are not innocent,

cops are not anything special, they are normal people with a job to do, and they are under resourced alot of the time to do that job,

Beaches arent good places to drink!!!

Dont know how old you are but if you have ever been at Long Bay Beach on a Friday when the cops turn up you will know what i mean.

Riot squad with battens. "Run motherfucker" if that doesnt motivate you to move your ass i dont know what will.

If they turned up at 9 and you are still there at 10 you must be a little thick too. If a cop asks you to do something, whether in the right or the wrong i think you would do it. Especially if you were/are drinking in a pubic place.

I know that its only hypothetical but i dont see anything wrong with it

OK boy... lets put it in plain english, if you passed plain english mid terms this week, that is.....

All that is being considered is the issue of an instant fine, just like a ticket, for minor matters, just like they do in traffic. And just like one can do in traffic matters, you can actually challenge the ticket and plead not guilty.

Plain enough for you, you keyboard warrior you?
