:angry2: Hi all, so last week was a long drawn out one...Passed my BLS and theory last Sat & Mon. Had already ordered a sweet VTR250 from my local Honda dealer (Lower Hutt) and proceeded to be as calm as possible until yesterday when I picked it up. To say I'd been like a dog with 2 dicks for a week would be an understatement. Anyway, turned up at said dealer and that's where it all started to go down hill. Now I know I'm only buying a 250cc and not some monster Ducati, but $6,500 is a lot and I expected a little more from them. I get there and pay by visa. The guy tells me I'll have to pay 2.5% ($150) for the pleasure, but after I politely said "You fkn what!!" he dropped it to $100. He then proceeded to spend most of the time that I wanted to be No.1 in his life talking to anyone that walked past the table. Is there a recession? Obviously not at this dealer. Anyway by this point I just wanted to get out of there and enjoy my bike. To say that my early fkn christmas day had been spoilt is an understatement. All it would have taken was for the guy to concentrate on me seeing as I was giving him $6,500 for 15mins so I could enjoy everything. They didn't even stick a fkn learner plate on it for me!!
Well that's my rant. Aside from that the bike is awesome and I'm so glad I bought it. My plan was to keep it for a year and then get a Ducati, but seeing as this dealer is also the main Ducati dealer, looks like it might be a Triumph next.

Think about it like this. Your only upset because you've chosen to be. The only thing that happened is the dealer didn't give you the attention you were wanting.
Decide that you've had a great bike experience, and you will. Promise. :)

thats a pretty good point. not that i dont agree that you should have been the number one priority to the dealer, that goes with out saying. getting your first bike is a big deal, its fuckin life changing and i dont think its too much to ask that you get a bit of attention for your $6500.00. but i guess when it comes down to it these guys sell bikes for a living and first time bike buyers come and go on a daily basis so its not the same deal to them as it is to you.
at the end of the day you can either feel gutted about it and let it eat you up or you can say fuck it whats done is done ... im off for a ride (and next time go to Richards in J'ville!!!)
enjoy the bike and welcome to the site.

Fucken ratshit to say the least.
That is piss poor, you should have got a good discount for gear, free L-plate, and lots of advice. (did you even get a tank of gas/tank protector?)
Maybe you should link this to an email and send it to the manager-they will be interested. (if they're worth their salt they will be)

Yip, Richards is good...but not to buy a bike. Definately go there for parts etc!
Stink you got bad service but don't let one guy who's having a bad day, sour your experience! Getting your first bike is a big thing mate, well done!
Ride safe while you learn the ins and outs of the bike. There's mentor programmes on here too if you want extra advice/help.
Again, welcome to the madness!

Thanks all. An awesome weather day yesterday helped remind me that it certainly isn't worth worrying too much about it. The bloody car drivers are enough . Anyhow, thanks again for all the replies.

Good on ya Sanzen! Welcome to the 2-wheels of freedom.
Don't let a single salesperson put you off. He should have been giving you undivided attention, since you are buying a bike off of the place .
Get in contact with one of the mentors down your way and get some good practice. It is well worth it in the long run!

Yep, you're bang on. Concentrate on finding a mentor around Welly and remember that if a local shop pisses you off.....Try it on in the shop and then smile as you walk out and go to order it online!!!

Great bike... we still have ours. I wish th SV650 had the fuel economy the VTR has.... my Mrs just switched over to reserve at 338kms... and reserve kicks in at about 11 litres!!!!
Remember to take it easy out there until you develop enough skills... After 1 year I still suck but at least I haven't binned.

Just an update.....End of the 1st week with the bike and the bloody wellington wind got another blown over victm :shit:. Broke the right wing mirror clean of its housing on the front brake cyclinder thingy. Contacted my local dealer and they're gonna send it to an alluminium welder to fix. Interestingly the guy told me that the parts aren't made for my bike anymore. This made me think....the bike's under warranty until next March, so surely Honda should ensure that there are available parts for this bike whilst under a warranty period. Also it does show that the VTR is a fairly light 250cc compared to others. A brand new ugly ninja thing was parked behind mine and that didn't move. Hope my bad luck only happens parked up though

So you've now christened it AND you've done it cheaply!
If that's as bad as your biker mishaps get, you'll be fine.
Good luck.

:angry2: and that's where it all started to go down hill.
yep, some service is crap, usually not the owner though coz he knows most people won't go back & they'll spread the bad word.

a Duke would still be good, but then again nothing wrong with a Triumph!
