Hey fella's,

For those that don't know there's a 300km endurance race coming up on the 7th and 8th of May at Pukekohe. There's practice/qualifying on Saturday and support races/stunt riders and the endurance race on the Sunday.

Check out www.vktracktime.co.nz for more info. Vince Sharpe has done a great job of organising the event so spread the word and get along to watch what's sure to be an awesome event. And as a bonus MNZ race licence holders get in for free.

I'm entering with Ross King (who rode for Brian Bernard in Summer) on a K4 GSXR 600. So far we've got on board Metzeler helping with discounted tyres, Vesrah with brake pads, Fredco Motors (Union St, Auckland) with a pit crew and V Black with some energy drinks! The race will be televised live and will get repeats on Sky Sport so will be a great opportunity for us to get some exposure on TV. It's gonna be pretty bloody expensive to race at the meeting so if you know of any potential sponsors who'd like to come on board, even if it's just for this one off meeting then let me know. We've got a fresh layer of paint going on the bike and the team will look real sharp.

Look forward to seeing you guys there.

Cheers,
Nicko

p.s. we're still trying to track down a quick-filler for gas, a lap-board and some brolly dollies if anyone knows where we can get a hold of these

Eric Bone was in to see me the other day waving a Kiwi Rider under my nose - ''read that '' he says,''read THAT!'' I read the whole artical until at the end it said that the race will be started by ''The Legendary Eric Bone''.Bloody hell, some guys just never get tired of seeing their name in print eh?

Yeah heard about it the other night while watching the superbikes. Sounds like a fairly well arranged event. Hopefully if its successful they might take it somewhere else next year (ruapuna, yeehaw).

Think they said that there is a highlights of the qualifying from 5-6 on the sat nite, then its live from 12:30 on the sunday with racing from 1:45. Can't wait, no racing on down here that weekend either.

Yea I do, I do! Can you provide the Gixxer 1K as well while you are at it?

I was thinking about doing this race but I can't afford it as my bike needs some money spent on it to last through the 300kms. At the moment, I am barely being able to do the Manfield rounds so I am happy with that.

Go kick some arse Nick. Good luck to both of you!

Just been speaking to my Timaru mate - apparently John Hepburn is going to do the whole race by himself on his new kwaka 600 (didn't know you could do the whole thing by yourself?). He reckons the time it takes getting up to speed with a new rider after a change isn't worth the change for 'only' a 2 hour race. Guess we'll see if the ironman strategy works but if you're fit enough perhaps he has a point? 2 hours with only a a few quick fuel stops doing 62sec laps at Puke seems pretty mental to me

He would have to fuel up etc anyway so when he came into the pits, why not do the rider change?

Its not that extradonary, tony rees is doing it solo aswell. This isn't even an endurance race, its just a slightly long race. An endurance race is a 6 hour, 12 hour or 24 hour race. In those races you use either 2 or 3 guys and each person does up to 3 hour stints. These guys have probably done the longer races before so this is pretty short for them.

All will be revealed on sunday, but i can't see why not so long as each guy doing it solo is fit enough.

Just from the people i work with, McKay and Todd Sutherland are running a 'Kiwi Rider team R6', Bruce Saunders AMPS riding a daytona 955i and triumphnz are entering the Daytona 650 - and i have a press pass :tugger: - not that you really need one at Puke - Should be a huge day.

Not sure about Jay. He's riding Derek's old ZX6RR and Derek has got the brand new one. Jay seems to have his own guys helping him out anyway.

I think derek was going to partner with someone called troy for the race.

He was riding pretty fast at Mansfield the other weekend. I thought he would have found the transition from a 125 to a 600 a bit much but he's doing pretty good.

So far, all i know is that a bunch of guys are coming up from Wellington and crashing at my place and we'll go out to the practice on saturday and work out the team duties.

and tony has some considerable time in the seat when it comes to 24 hour races etc. Still one problem for him tho, as hes doing the aussie superbikes and the last round was on the weekend just gone theres not enough time to get the bike back. So if any of you remember that pre-production thing he did some demo laps at paeroa a couple of years ago, well thats being turned into a race bike as we speak, and the big problem with that is the only mods its gonna have is suspension, exhaust, power commander and a dyno run on the way up to the race. hes even having to borrow his parts guys wheels for the race. anyway hope to see you all there, i got my ticket on the weekend so hopefully the weathers all good.

Back in the "old days" a few guys did the Six Hour solo. I think from memory Ginger Molloy won on his own one year - was he on an H2? Or was it a Z1? (most likely not an H2 - it'd have to refuel every three laps!!)

Then they changed the rules after a few years to make two riders mandatory, and the second rider had to ride for a minimum time ( 1½ hours?)

Ginger Molloy won the inaugural event in 74. Croz won the next two solo, then won it again in 77 teamed up with Tony Hatton under the new rules.
Then came Dave Hiscock & Neil Chivas..
Oh, yeah - Ginger rode a Z1, as did Croz in 75, then Z1000 in 76/77.
