Something that I have fought for since Grub died ... but truely its my old boss David Waters (CEO of Ambulance NZ) that kept this on the emergency services agenda to make it happen ... BLOODY AWESOME and about time!!!! With the Inquest this week it will be interesting that I can perhaps promote what has been done, and not by St Johns! (hehe)

This one's a a no-brainer. Great to see it happen.

Gets around the old "but who's going to pay for it" arguments as Terralink get to sell the information you enter as part of their address/location database services. In return we get people turning up to the right spot - be it emergency services or more mundane stuff like getting your broadband connected :2thumbsup

When it started it was a police project which found its way to the 'too hard' basket.

Police, fire and ambulance all utilise data from Terralink - and they are out to make money - but also realise this is a huge addition to their datapool - and capability. The issue now is to try and get them to refresh their data on a more than 3-monthly schedule - I think I might lobby a bit for this one.

Just had a play with the website and as I suspected it needn't be only your own address you check on and add any extra info.

For example I looked up Taranaki Milk Products premises which at 1729 SH 45 (phone book address) between Oakura and Okato, on a windy stretch of road that has more than its share of offs. MyAddress brought up the alias of "Surf Highway" 45, which is in common use now, and also "Tataraimaka" as the locality. I added the building alias as "Old Tataraimaka Dairy Factory" as many locals would probably use that term as a landmark name especially in an emergency.

Additional information such as this is checked before inclusion on the database so I expect it will pop up in a few days.

Nice system. Go to it to add points of reference on your favourite, or most notorious, set of twisties
