Was going to tell you a tale of an aggressive, foul-mouthed, arsehole on a push bike in Christchurch today but I can't be frigged. You know what they can be like.

Anyway, I did end my conversation with him by just saying: "Oh, and pay some bloody ACC".

Careful, last time I had a rant about the League of Extraordinarily Tight Lycra Wearing Gentlemen I got told off....

But yes, I know exactly what you mean.

Got told off for what?

I considered giving one a lawmaster kick on the way past today. Middle of the bloody road in the middle of nowhere....

It's worse when they get all shitty at us for riding our motorbikes in the cycle lanes. They don't pay vehicle licencing on their push bikes to fund building those cycle lanes after all.

Having just witnessed the lunatic antics on the way home of one of Spandex encapsulated friends I may have been guilty of slight over-ranting, but I know I'm not the only one to have witnessed their total disregard for road rules, other road users and the aggressive attitude that goes with it. (apologies to the few law abiding cyclists that I know are out there)

Lol, there are so many roadies that seem to ignore the biker lanes when they are around, and simply ride a meter away from them instead.
Whoops, did I purposely backfire as I went past you? Shit dude, my bad.

Or the people that ride 3-4 abroad in the country. God damnit.

So shouldn't that say "Christchurch cyclist" then?

Bit like saying all Motorcyclists are arseholes because of the actions of one of then

Most cyclists would own a car and pay vehicle licensing on that

You could probably argue that a similar proportion of motorcyclists also own cars and pay twice as much....

Just saying... ;)

I pay all the relevant car fees and DON'T ride a bicycle.

So if bicycle riders with cars want to pretend they are paying for their bike lanes with their cars fees, they can keep their cars off my fucking road.

Not really. I did say: "You know what they can be like".

Cycle lanes not motorcycle lanes.....

Cyclists still pay ACC in wages..they own cars!!!!! Yeah they are dicks on the road but fairs fair

Do you not understand the difference between a Motorcycle and a Bicycle?

Yeah they are dicks on the road but fairs fair

You could just as easily be describing any motorists regardless of what they drive or ride

Because, when it comes to Cantabrian latte sipping lycra clad faggots, they're qualified to judge.

You[r] road?

Metaphorically speaking, yes.

You missed off the important bit:

So if bicycle riders with cars want to pretend they are paying for their bike lanes with their cars fees, ...

My point was just that if they think their car fees are paying for their cycle lanes, then presumably their car fees are not paying for the roads. So "get off 'em"!

Given those bike riders are in no way paying fully for their cycle lanes (and they don't pay a bloody levy to ACC either), they should remember they are being subsidised.

I'm actually all for cycle lanes being built and I don't mind some of my fees going towards them. I don't even care that some of the various fees and taxes I pay support the commuter trains too. It all gets cars off the road. That's in my favour too. [And I understand that in a reasonable civilised society, the collective does sometimes help pay for the minorities.]

(I'm also getting to be a fat bastard, and I should start riding a bike again. (I'll still be a bastard)).

(P.S. It's also fair to note that in a parallel to the cyclists claim that their car fees pay for cycle lanes; it would be nice if ACC acknowledged that many motorcycle owners also own cars, and are therefore part of the car "subsidy" of motorcycles...)

If you have not experienced the Christchurch cycle pack mentality then sorry you cannot comprehend the arrogance often shown to other road users buy these people.

It often amazes me, as there a groups of 40 plus year old adults who drive home in their BMW's etc obeying all road rules, then put on their cycle gear and become arse-wipes(TM).

I am surprise more are not killed every year.

And yes I am sure the same applies to some motorcyclists....... but not me OK.

Perhaps if more did get hit and injured, not killed, we don't want anyone to die, then they might figure out how to ride sensibly down a road. At least scooter riders stick to the side of the road when they know they can't do the speed limit.

You could say the same about motorcyclists tho, most of us own cars as well!!! but still have to pay extra for our bike, oh and we pay out of our wages to do we not??? FAIRS FAIR. Bunch of Gits if you ask me, well a large percentage of them are anyway. :Playnice:

A motorbike is often a "toy" as much as it is a way of getting to work so it is our choice.

A cyclist....can also be a motorcyclist..but may have a wife, family so a car is in this day and age an essential plus they work so overall in the "essential" world fair is fair...

This is not about nitpicking..it is about the unreasonable in"he did it Miss" attitude

Actually, next time I come across a few cyclists while I'm in my V8 (or on my heavy-weight, ill-handling Harley) I might just give them a nudge to make the stat's look a bit worse for them/us.

LOL hard-out.......

Does anyone have any figures on where the cycle lane funding actually comes from?

Local roads are paid for by the local council, i.e. rates  Sometimes they get donations from transit. http://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-news/north-shore-times/2910378/Backpedal-could-hurt-funding

If the road is a national highway I'm not sure who pays, or if cycle lanes even exist on national highways in NZ.
