Hey everyone,

Well they say you only live once, so I went and got my new bike on the weekend. Im all giddy with excitement for its delivery tomorrow. Well, I wanted to do more long distance riding, so needed a bike that would handle that. I'm not much of a fanger through the twisties but wanted a comfortable yet reasonably sporty bike that could handle a slightly quicker pace haha. A bike that could carry luggage and someone on the back down to wellington without breaking a sweat. A bike that looks great, is well looked after and well set up.

After perusing trademe and spending all of saturday testriding bikes (one of which was the vmax....fun but the novelty wore off), there was only one bike that really made me go "gimme gimme gimme". Looks fantastic, well kept, comes with some awesome extras and the previous owner is a top guy and one of the nicest people I have ever met. Hopefully now he can get that street triple of his haha.

Yup, I grabbed blackbirds blackbird :2thumbsup WOOOHOOOOOOO. Now, I realise that a lot of responsibility comes with this, geoff reinforced that but I am ready to step up. I found that once on my full license my riding improved as you realise the shit can really hit the fan on the big bikes. Anyway, I am stoked and really happy that I got basically one of my dream bikes.

Its amazingly comfortable and extremely well set up.

Pics to come within the next few days.

I'm so excited, that I just can't hide it, nananananananan. WOOHOO.

the thing I'm a little apprehensive about is the weight, I'll have to take it veery easy for the first few weeks making the transition. Already got some touring luggage bags in ma sight.

Ride safe

Thanks for the kind words Dushy, I'm absolutely stoked that it's going to someone who is so enthusiastic and will treasure it. I know I probably shouldn't care where it goes but after 8 years of happy ownership and lavishing care on it, I bloody well do care!

You've got a bike that's bullet-proof and can be ridden like a tourer or wickedly quick with the boys. That "responsibility" thing is very real and with a bike like the 'bird, there's no need to prove anything to anyone. (But it is fun to annihilate a boy racer with aspirations on the very rare occasion:whistle:)

Crikey, a lot of bike there! Enjoy and learn safely! Just remember, its a 'bird and it needs its freedom a lot! :msn-wink: Might see you out there in the back blocks and yonder one day!

Nice one mate, just don't ride it onto a bank to take a photo thinking, she'll be right, that you can get it down a 50 degree ditch afterwards. It makes for a good photo, but a pants soiling moment when the wheels buckle in the gravel under the weight of the bike and sheer luck (plus prayers for some herculean strength) keeps it upright.

All the 'bird info I obtained was from BB himself, so it's best to ask him :D

Well, dropped off the Blackbird to Ital 916 in Auckland at 0900 this morning (boy, that Auckland motorway traffic sucks big time). Sad about her going in many ways:weep:, but delighted it's going to someone who is going to pamper her. Still, lovely chap that he is, Ital said I can have a nostalgic ride on it when I'm in the area. :2thumbsup

I know a certain person who will be wagging varsity classes this afternoon in favour of going for a ride:whistle:

Classes...what classes? Oh the ones I missed cos I did end up going out on the bird :2thumbsup. Sweet lord, the difference is night and day. It is like riding a armchair attached to a rocket!

It felt odd at first becuase I am not used to an engine that is smooth and powerful like the birds. No need to rev the tits off her or anything. I think I went up to seven grand for a few seconds just to know what happens. A black hole is created in front of the bike when ya hit seven grand sucking all light and sound into it as you are catapulted into another galaxy.

I was a bit worried though because I had to run some errands and the temp gauge was read in the red and the fans were whirring away. Its not gonna hurt the bike is it geoff? I have to figure out the sweet spots for changing too, my changes were clunky but adequate haha. The weight is not so bad, but I am mindful of it. My hands went a bit numb but thats from the lack of vibration, Im used to a vibrating, clattering unbalanced non rubber mounted twin haha.

No worries blackbird, Ill take awesome care of ya blackbird. She will be getting a wash and polish on sat, as well as the tyre pressures checked. Ill get a new scottoiler refill and fill it up on sat as well.

This bike is awesome, and suit my perfectly, just cruising along at 4k chilling out. Now....what can I add to it....an rjays pack rack bag is a shoe in me thinks. :2thumbsup I should say goodbye to having money from now on:weep:

Hahahahaha - hello Dushy, didn't think you'd be back home until after midnight:whistle:

Nah, the temperature is fine. They run hot in heavy traffic but the fans stops the needle from hitting the stop, even if they run right near the top. Once you get on a run where you're not dicking about in traffic, it runs right down the bottom of the gauge - airflow is everything.

Glad you like it so far. Yep, when 7000 rpm comes up, you warp to another galaxy!

haha, yeah the terrible start to my motorcycling career. Thankfully I have learnt my lessons, taken my licks and am better for it. Looking back, It could have all turned out worse, but I am thankful it didnt. Na blackbird didnt include any trainer wheels, what he did include though was plenty of good advice and tips as well as being a top notch guy who was supportive of my descision to buy the bike. Goes to show there are still genuinely nice people left in this world. Mind you there are still some straight up arseholes like yourselves, sitting in your serial killer lair, posting to and fro picking on other people and being plain abusive. So what I say to you is, ride safe and have a nice day, the sun is shining and the birds are singing.

$10 sez the Blackbird is on its side within 6 months, you want to take that bet?

No, not really. Id rather spend that ten bucks on petrol. Ever considered being nice to people, or do I just grind your gears. ;)

Stop snivelling boy. Actually the $10 bet was a faint hope that it would serve as a motivating factor not to kill yourself; the motivation was hatred of SPB!

Hi ital916,

And welcome to the wonderful world of Bird ownership, I know you have bought a cracker bike there, I have known this bike for a number of years and have done some work on it and know it to be a stunner. Look after it and you will have a blast, I’ve had mine 10 years and counting.

Might catch you on the road some day
