It might be an idea to think of an objective first. Do you want mods to make it look better, sound better, perform better, etc.

go to custom chambers or virgin exhausts, they could sort out something for ya. Or save up a bit longer and get a slip on. Then download a proper fuelling map for it.

Putting a hole in the exhaust is pretty cheap. :)

now you have an excuse to ride to auckland. Or remove the exhaust system and courier it up to aucks...or just buy a slip on. Or go to the wreckers and find a zx6r someone has crashed with a nice non damaged performance exhaust on it. Personally I like quiet exhausts. Makes riding around less painful on the ears and I can hear more.

Do you have integrated indicators? You could tint them... Just use the stuff from modelling shops.
Cheap and easy cosmetic mod.

I'm not familiar with the material used to make the oem silencer for the zxr ?

If its ss, ti or ally, you can cut it open, pull the guts out and weld it up..

It will be noisy, like AHHH FUCK THATS NOISY.

Cheap.

None taken.

I dont think I would bother either. But it is a cheap and easy mod...

another idea for noise, not sure bout the cheapness (mechanical aptitude dependant) but installing an electronically actuate butterfly (open over a certain rpm) in the exhasut system to bypass the silencer (or even dump it straigt form the headers for sweet flame action) would give it a nice bark at high revs.

OR a sweet DIY flame thrower kit..

Just don't get caught, I hear the fun police aren't cool with flame throwers, or the geneva convention ?

I'm no expert with automobileatroncycle electromohoodackies, but can't you just download a new map and plug in a lap top somewhere ?

Or am I thinking of reprogramming a terminator ?

yeh, you're thinking of the terminator, see the t88s and most other ones come with reprogamable memory, and programming interface pins, whereas most bikes do not. Though this deficit of equipment is more than offset by the obvious downside of murderous rage present in all terminator models, with the notable exception of the terminator that looks like the chick from firefly, i'd still hit that.... i'm sorry, what was the question?

Putting a hole in the exhaust is pretty cheap. :)

alternatively put a big hole in it and take the gibblets out, then get someone capable to weld the big hole back up (you must have can openers and welding sets in nelson surely?)

Get rid of the dirty shitty cat in the first muffler unit, do the "jumper mod" if you are not running it in euro spec already. Smooth out the inlet for the air intake... there are notches and pits and collectors along the ways...(aslong as these can be undone ..makes for a louder intake note) 'there is also the KLEEN air mod where you get rid of an actuator and block off the a couple of holes.... on youtube or you get the parts replaces if you get an aftermarket exhaust anyways... they need to block these off to propely tune and dyno it when all the changes have been made anyways...
But like CAJUN said... suspension! I am saving and walking in circles wanting some actual
