hi all riders...

im looking to doing a mini tour around central north island.. riding east coast to west coast, was just wondering if any one else is thinking along these lines,,
im looking around 4-5 days,
at a rough map idea.
starting Masterton, to Taihape,
over gental annie to napier,
Napier to Gisborne hugging the coast,
around the east cape, satying close to the coast, go around the Coromandle loop, cut across to west coast and head for new Plymouth, not sure which roads to take that way, like to stay close to the coast...
im going to go around coast side of Mt Egmont, through Opunake,
and just make my way home from Wanganui...

just wondering if any one else is thinking along same lines, or advice on scenic roads to take on our way..
any ones welcome to join in for tour or day or two..
i need to find out what days im getting off this year, before posting dates..
this most probably be a tent tour....
so any good safe camp spots, in your local area.
just a laxed out tour of ole NZ
any advice welcome..

Camp at Waipatiki Beach 20 min north of Napier. A brilliant spot! Just 5 min (or so) of the Napier-Gisborne road.

The camping ground is approx 300m from the sea. (The buildings you see at approx 2 a clock on the pic.)

Tokomaru Bay - past Gisborne is an awesome area. I love it and always stop there when going past it - which isn't often enough [love the pub there too] :niceone:

Yup that is a great spot. Not a lot of fuel around East Cape though (almost found out the hard way) but lots of primo scenery. It is said that the best way around the East Cape is clockwise... been that way a few times (only once by bike (ex Gisborne boy)) and would tend to agree. You could go back up past Gisborne to Matawai and The Motu? :ride:

hi.
where is last gas stop on the coast road,,

We left Opotiki without filling up and there was no gas until Waihau Bay. A couple of dairy-come-gas-stations that used to be around had closed up. From memory the next gas was at Hicks Bay and then probably Ruatoria and probably not again until Tolaga Bay then Gisborne. We were probably most caught short by not filling up in Opotiki when we had the chance. Barry would have you believe this was my fault... because I didn't stop  Eh Barry....
