Sorry to start off with a post about a stolen bike but hopefully you guys and girls can help me out. :niceone:

I've just had my KTM250RFS (350 kit) stolen today. It's a road registered motard that I use as my sole mode of transportation.

I parked it outside my workplace as I always do (The Colour Guy, 20 Daly Street, Lower Hutt, Wellington). Parked it at 8.30 am and finished work at 5 pm, walked outside to get on it and go home and low and behold some mother ....ers taken it. They must have chucked it on a truck cause it had a lock on the front disc.

There has been alot of time and money spent on this bike not only by me but friends as well and any information or support would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a few pic's. It's very distinctive because of the XGXracing decals and purple 17" wheels.

P.S. If I find the pricks who took it I'm definately gonna break a few bones and spill some blood! Feel free too suggest some forms of punishment. :angry2:

Best of luck getting it back, and look forward to seeing you on the site and out and about in the future.

Seems to be alot of thievin bastards down that way. Talk to WT he's been trying to orginize a sortof sting/mob justice type operation down there. 'Least half heartedley anyway. Did ya gove pics/rego# and such to the cops? Taken a step here by lettin others know and they will keep an eye out for it. Other than that not sure what you can do except hope the insurance pays out.

I can't believe the quick and positive response. You're obviously a great bunch of people (I should have registered here earlier).

I rang the cops about half an hour after I discovered the bike missing and about half an hour after that I had 3 of them at my door. So a big thanks to them.

The bike is insured.

I think a vigilante/angry mob is a fucken great idea. The more the merrier and from the responses I've read their's no shortage of fucked off motorcycle owners.

A big thanks to you all and have I hope you have a great ANZAC weekend. :niceone:

Hi FlangMasterJ and welcome to KB - like the others have said, really sorry about the circumstances though.

We'll all be keeping an eye out for you. There's a lot of us on here, right around the country (and beyond). So you just never know.

Keep us posted if there's any developments.

BTW, I understand that the scum use a skateboard under the front wheel if it's got a lock on, to wheel it into the van/truck/trailer.

Where do I find the form to join the vigilante group?

Rego number,vin number etc.
A word of caution here folks.---All good nailing the scumbags.
But ya might end up dealing to some poor sucker who bought a set of plastics for his bike ........
I was caught like that once. -bought a full set of cosmetics for a FZ750 . The price was about market price and the guy gave me legit reasons for selling them. The actual owner of the bike was less than impressed when he saw me riding "his" bike.
But if ya do catch the scumbags--yea -a right hand is probably appropriate for a first offence.

Might pay to check on the LTSA site to see if someone was dumb enough to try and change the ownership on it....?

I'm all for a show of force if we track down the low lifes too...

Any security cameras in the area? i know Lower Hutt police have security cams around the central business area but might pay to check the local shops they may have picked something up and the cops won't be interested in that kind of leg work....you might just get lucky....

Sympathies re the missing wheels. But hey, why not try advertising for that same model, you know - Wanted to Buy? Put ads in the Lower Hutt news, Trade & Exchange, on TradeMe... offer cash and see what happens.

It's a long shot, but I've heard of this sort of thing working before, where the dumbf*ckers of thieves are so greedy for cash they respond to the ad. Also - and you've probably done this - send a flier round all the Wellington region bike shops with photo of the bike and details etc. Sooner or later the "new owner" might need to take it in for servicing.

I know these are slim chances, but you'll feel better doing something positive. Good luck.

And when you find the bastards, attach them to the back of your bike and go for a long long ride...

Hi Seagull,

Is their anyway you can find a pic of this bike? or can get anymore extra details like cc rating, year etc.?

The most likely scenario is that they have stripped the bike of any lights and what not and changed the wheels to original 21/19 dirt ones and they are just thrashing it offroad.

Either PM me or post a reply,

I was with PROTECTA.

It was my screw up really.

The bike was only covered if stolen from a locked and enclosed building. The bike was stolen from a covered carpark (drive through type). I never imagined it could be stolen from where it was parked and with so much pedestrian traffic.

Just make sure when you sign your insurance application forms READ THE FINE PRINT and get the full cover. It may set you back more but won't bite you in the ass like it had me.

The last thing an insurance company wants to do is payout, so they will try everything and anything to get you off there backs.

I really wanna nail the pricks who took the bike and send a message to other thieving bastards just like them.

There are alot of dirt bikes being thrown onto the back of trucks in Wellington at the moment.

A mate of mine had his DR250 stolen and the same day on the other side of town, another DR250 was stolen.

There is obviously alot of bikes being stolen. I think it's time somebody actually set up some covert cameras to catch these guys.
Interesting thing is - They seem to be heavily targeting dirt bikes.

Can anybody provide me with more information on locations of thefts?
I work in the security industry and am considering placing a couple of cameras in the off chance. Especially since one of the previously hit spots is right outside the office.

Post Message me privately please.

The bike was only covered if stolen from a locked and enclosed building. The bike was stolen from a covered carpark (drive through type). I never imagined it could be stolen from where it was parked and with so much pedestrian traffic.

so was this sub full insurance or is it a standard clause they try to hide from you in the hope they dont have to pay out?!

will be looking for insurance soon so will need to ensure I have some decent cover. Sucks to be tripped up by hidden small print.

ps why the fuck when you go to buy a plane ticket is that it says it costs $180, but then after that they add a airport tax, a terrorist tax and a fuel surcharge?
Why dont they just calll apples apples and put the price at $300. When you buy a bus ticket you dont have to pay for diesel?

Dude, I just looked at my protecta policy and it actually states the following generalised Policy Conditions.... (should apply to all customers)

GENERAL EXCLUSIONS:

3. Unattended Motorcycles.

- There is no cover or liability which is a result of the theft or illegal conversion of the motorcycle while it is left unattended unless:
a) It is in a secure building
or
b) The steering has been locked and the keys have been removed.

Dude, Tell me you had the steering locked and keys removed! Have you read your policy because the operative word is "or". Could be an $8000 question?

I urge you to relodge your claim based upon the fact that you had locked the steering and removed the keys. And regardless of everything, You do have a locking system, if the insurance company don't believe you, invite them to look for themselves. What can they do?
If you don't mind me asking, did you have Full Cover or 3rd Party?

And consider contacting "Fair Go", they do well with this sort of thing. Last thing the insurance co wants is adverse publicity.

Yes those steering locks are just plain useless. I would have to be the worlds worst criminal , but as a mechanic I have had to do a few , gas caps , locks and such like ,,NOW if I can do it your average Skuzzy could do it in a blink of an eyelid,,,,

and ,,,I after that who can prove what ,,, UNLESS YOU SAID NO..i didnt use the steerin lock

Anyway Pm me your mail address po box or what ever I will send what ever 2000 yen comes to ,,, If all the other here do the same you will be sorted ...If you do get a pay out , then some other on this list may need it
Kind regards
Stephen

BTW it will be sent on the 1 of July as I have been Racing this weekend ,,and those brolly dollys aint cheap !!!!

You will need to respond promptly as there are clauses stating that you will lodge immediately and without delay. If they try to wriggle their out on this, you need to say "lawyer" to put them back in their place.

The bump to end all bumps!

Two weeks ago on my weekly browse through Trademe I came across a familiar looking bike. My bike! Who would have thought nine years later it was still in one piece and by the looks of it in pretty good condition.

Within a few hours of seeing the listing I had found the persons Facebook page, their name, number and location. Then with constant hounding of the local police for two weeks the bike has finally been seized and will be back in my possession very soon.

So anyone who has ever had a bike or any piece of personal property nicked and I know there is a lot of us on here. Don't give up looking and in the immortal words of Journey.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ

The bike as it was and how it is now.

Flangtastic news (see what I did there!)

Just curious how you recognised it as your bike? Lots changed in appearances, to be expected by thieving scum. As a victim of bike theft I know how good it feels to eventually learn that karma lived up to it's name.

Nah the guy selling it was only eighteen or so. It would've gone through a number of hands first I reckon but it's a starting point.

It was the only KTM 250 EXCR set up like that in the country. The wheels belonged to a friend who was kind enough to have them fitted to my bike.

Yeah it was. The police.govt.nz site under stolen vehicles still contained all the bikes info including rego, chassis and engine number. It was very handy.

Wonder if the trail of almost owners will be traced back.

:angry2:

Wasn't an insurance job? reason I ask, is if you want help I wouldn't want anything to come back on you. If your genuinely asking for help I will look around. Would you like a full tank of gas also? upon its return if it isn't parted out? sounds more like an ex girlfriend seeking revenge so think outside the square a little… how many people want a motard KTM that has personalized work done on it? was it insured? what kind of distinguishable work had been done to it? flyers on lamp posts near gas stations will help unless it has already been sent to australia for parts. KTM was developed for high altitude applications so again, why would you want to steal one… unless you were into gurilla warfare.

Do you know anyone with boat sheds? an old enemy? friend?

All I'm getting at the mo is boating and farming, maybe parked in a residential hillside residence. or out on a farm by a dock of some kind…. should register in your mind as soon as you read this the general location, go for a drive who knows… get GPS fitted to the next one or if you reclaim her gps her. somewhere thieves won't think to look… even fabricate some part of the frame to house it. That's normal. Found my bass drum ($6k to replace) that was stolen 3 years ago on TM about 18 months ago. Cops recovered it but still haven't returned it. Won't return calls, nor will they respond to our lawyer who has written to them at our expense twice.

If the last owner stole it when he was 11 years old they still wouldn't be able to trace it back far enough.

No that's only in the case of an accident wreck. There was a story about similar thing in paper awhile back. Even if insurance company pays out you still legally own the property if/when recovered.
The settlement paid out by insurance company is a civil matter if they want to go to expense and bad PR of trying to claw back money the insured prob doesn't have.
Typically the time frame involved means the insured item has devalued to less than what paid out so opens another headache maths wise if there was to be a clawback of some kind...

Could be quite wrong there tho.

Thanks. Nah haven't ridden dirt in a couple of years, I may get back into it real soon. I haven't even been riding on the street for while either. The 660SMC is at TSS at the moment for sale if anyone is interested.

The "changing hands so many times" thing doesn't sound right at all. It's still the original owners property.

I actually enjoyed riding the 250EXCR (350 :msn-wink:) motard more than the 660. It has that instant response that I like. Once I pick it up from up north I'm gonna give it a good spruce up, ride the thing and may even get it back on the road or even convert it back to dirt.

Now yo guys might be able to help. Who do you recommend in the way of bike transporters? It's up in Tauranga at the moment in the police evidence room. Or do you reckon I'm better off picking it up myself, I'm thinking it'd probably cost the same as getting it shipped down.

Tell the cops to photograph it and make it available for uplift.
Aint no way they should hold it for weeks.
If they say evidence ask them if they are going to take the bike over to the court or a photo.

Hitch hike down, ride it home. Costs just a little time and a tank of fuel...
