Looks like rain this weekend and would like to know if anyone who has done these rides (matatoki school fundraiser or whangamata trail ride at parakawai quarry) If it is wet, which ride would be easier?

I'd be interested to know what the Matatoki ride is like, The Glen Murray ride is on but if Matatoki is like the Paeroa rotary ride a few weeks back I think I would prefer it. Anybody done it in previous years?

I have not done matatoki but someone did say that there are some narly steep bits that would not be fun in the wet.

Thoughts from a novice rider: I found Whangamata in the wet pretty tough, the first two small uphills in the wet give an indication of difficulty - I didn't stand a chance of getting up the second one, but at least it meant I wasn't far from the car to bail out. In the dry Whanga is fantastic, and at least we've had little rain so far this week.
Haven't done Matatoki, but a novice friend of mine said it was hellish. So I'm going to be riding at Whangamata. Also Whangamata is very cheap, if you join as a member it's only 10 bucks a ride.

SO much choice.
I think the Whangamata one looks the goods?
What do you mean by hellish? Mud + hills? In the matatoki one?
Too many decisions/options.

By that you mean..... bad, hard or certain death?
Have heard differing reports both ways. That neasville word seems to get a good reaction from some people.... bad when wet.
Might just decide on the way on sunday morning?

Yep, I think it'll be Matatoki.
Having trouble with my bike but. Won't start.
Had some gas leak out of the bottom of the carb then took the drain out of it and now it won't go.
Changed plug, going to go back down to work soon to try get it going.
Oh well, just hope it goes so I can go mud sliding tomorrow.

on the 300's ive found you have to leave the petrol on, even when its parked up in the garage during the week, otherwise the float sticks and floods the carb making it really hard to start
