(Apologies if this has already been posted - I searched for the link and didn't find it).
This is from the Ducati forums (http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthread.php?t=76500).
It's a complete build of a 1098R using lots of very expensive titanium and CF parts.
Here's sneak peek of the titanium frame, and the ONLY titanium 1098 subframe in existence:

1098R already weighs (dry) 165kgs. How many kgs will be shaved after the makeover???
Nice tho :)
Carbon fiber rims. They will reduce some serious amount of fat!

I went to the site Budget $80-100,000 they say. Bloody lovely welding on the frame, Magnesium swing arm and those wheels bloody nice!
Be interesting to see the final stats! I wonder how much all the changes, change the bike to ride? Be interesting to see a rider review after it all done!!
Thread bookmarked, Hey thanks for that mate nice find Viffer!

I will laugh when the frame cracks.. There is is a reason (aside from cost) that chassis's are not fabricated from Ti.
Does look nice though, someone did a very tidy job.

There is is a reason (aside from cost) that chassis's are not fabricated from Ti.And CF is not really intended to have that sort of loading on it, regardless of how it's cured. It will deform over time, unless they let the air out of the tyres when they're not riding it. Be careful mounting tyres on those rims too - will crack real real easy.
Sounds like an (very) expensive bling exercise to me, and not much more.

Did you read the posts? Someone made the point that the titanium being used isn't the strongest thing to use, and the builders pointed out that on the Ducati the engine is the main stressed member, not the frame, so the frame didn't need to be super-duper strong.

WTF? so all the wheel manufacturers in the world that are building CF wheels are wrong? where's your R&D to back up your statement?

Of course it is - and given that it's only going to be used a street bike (with maybe the odd track day), there's no real point apart from wank factor. But it's still kewl to see some of those exquisitely manufactured components.

Considering custom builders spend that kind of money on their mostly non-functioning "masterpiece's" what's wrong with spending it on an actual functioning bike? Most of the stuff going on it is not just bling.

Nar, just dribbled at the pictures..
The steering head and part of the suspension still hooks on the the chassis, Ti is terrible with any kind of vibration and will probably crack, even if there is no significant load on..

does depend on what alloy of Ti it is though - plenty of push bike frames made from it that do OK, plenty of critical high performance aeroplane parts are Ti, and most of the SR-71 is made from it.

No no, you've got it all wrong Marty... the boys on Kiwi Biker definitely know more about making titanium frames than those hacks at NCR... I mean shit bro, they've only made a few hundred, what would they know?

The central wingbox of the F-14 Tomcat is Ti. Swing-wing aircraft with carrier deck landings. They seem to have functioned quite well over 30years of abuse.

If you do a search on titanium Motorcycle frames they're a lot more "common" than I would have thought

And yes, carbon fibre makes good wheels. Only reason they're banned from motogp is cost.

Sounds like there are a lot of jealous and probably poor people in the thread! After watching a documentary last night on gambling and seeing a guy end up 250k-300k after four days (and not be visibly worried about it) I'm happy to see it being spent on something that could arguably be considered a work of art - or just a really expensive puzzle.
Of course there are still all those kids in Africa...

Sounds like there are a lot of jealous and probably poor people in the thread!Maybe a little jealousy, but a different mindset also... those in a lesser wage bracket people don't or can't or won't relate to someone who finds a $6000 set of carbon fibre rims to be comfortably within their discretionary spending budget.

I can understand it. The MH900 that is in my garage has an NCR 1200cc kit being fitted to a donor engine, I believe it also has 1098S Ohlins forks on the way as well as a TTX Ohlins rear shock. The owner is going to turn it into what it should have been when Ducati released it - the NCR Mike Hailwood bike is another jump again but I think he likes the MH900e fairings more.
