Forlorn request I expect but non parochial opinions sought.....
Thinking about moving to a new town (business related) and was wondering in what order you would rate the following towns given that my main interests outside of work are skiing, mountain biking, running, surfing and motorbikes.

The towns are

Kerikeri/paihia
Tauranga
Gisbourne
Napier
Masterton/Wairarapa
Queenstown
Or stay in Welly

No question. Stay in Welly!
Or at the most, maybe Masterton/Wairarapa or Napier even at a stretch...

No brainer really, Napier.
Flat enough to run, great biker roads, close enough to the snow, enough hills close by for mountain biking, surfing wont be a problem either. Wonderful climate.

What, Eltham's not included? What's with that? It's also easier to spell properly compared with others on the list.

Queenstown. It's a no brainer. Best skiing in NZ and those roads for biking in the summer.................unsurpassed. And on top of that ya not far from Old Riders abode. Worth moving just to have a beer with the old codger. Some pretty good Kiwi Bikers hang out in the Southern climes as well.

Yah I would have liked Nelson too.... But unfortunately it's been ruled out that franchise territory has been taken.

No perfect choices in the list but great locations anyway. I don't think you'd regret any of them.

Napier and Queenstown are my suggestions but be aware Qtn is expensive to live and buy in. It's about 2 hours from the southern beaches.

Apart from surfing QTown has everything you are looking for. And you could take up car surfing if you really wanted to hang ten or whatever it is they do. Be warned though, it is very much a small town.

Not being a sufer I don't know. I hear there are some wild rides on the coast but failing that Oz might be the next best but ya gonna have to wait a few million years before we get there.:niceone:

And chock full of tourists, Kiwi bums and overseas workers that get pissed every night, sell dodgy drugs, fight, drive drunk, vomit and piss everywhere and that's when they're not stealing stuff.

What a great fun place to live......the best thing to come out of Queenstown is the tar-sealed road......

Hmm... i dunno about that... Depends how far out of town you're willing to live ;)

Still better than Auckland though, so much so that when dad was told the company was moving its head office up there he found another job in Kuwait instead!

With all that going for the place ... I wonder why the council (and the Police ) want to reduce the lawful bar hours ... 24 hour drinking ... whats the problem ...

Completely agree. Shithole of a place, built under the hills so you don't see the sun for 6 months, icy roads, loopy tourists driving on th wrong side of the road while taking photos, pissed up aussies looking for a fight every 20 metres, 2-3 hours from any surf spot. Most people that rate the place have only been there for a boozy ski weekend or similar, believe me, it is a cunt of a place to live...
