View Full Version : Stupid elderly woman with mobile phone

Riding home this evening, in the (legal to use) bus lane. Traffic light green, but as v.busy, I am taking my time and riding along pretty slowly (not even 30kph).

Just as well. Elderly indian woman walks straight out, looking at her own feet, on a mobile phone.

I haul anchor as hard as I can, hitting horn at same time. No chance. She keeps walking, right hand mirror catches her elbow and I plop onto floor.

Stupid indian woman still on feet (tribute to me doing my best to save her). Meanwhile, I am on floor, with bike sitting on top of me. Look round and get someone to help lift the bike up, so I can get behind it and haul upright.

Of course, she speaks almost no english whatsover. I try to get details. Forget it. A man kindly says he was a witness and gives name and phone number (though I have my doubts that it would be any use; anyone that says they can't remember their full address screams "illegal immegrant" to me). Meanwhile, shop owner had translated indian idiot - she is OK, she knows it was her fault and her daughter works in Limehouse (no idea what relevence that had - guessing she was trying to tell me she would be going to her so was OK.

At this point, he also says it looks like liquid coming out of the bike. I assume worse and think engine casing cracked. Another look shows it was, as far as I could see, just some fuel came out of the overflow pipe. Further inspection showed end of clutch cable snapped off (well done intelligent design: as it is built to just lose the end, it was perfectly useable). Quick inspection showed no damage to mirrors, not even a scratch on the bar ends. Think the left hand front indicator might have come off mount slightly. Not even a scratch on the fairing either.

Guess I cushioned pretty much all the impact.

Rode home, no problem. Once cooled down, checked again and there are the slightest scrapes right on the bottom edge of the engine casing. You can only tell by running your finger carefully over it.

I feel fine; think left elbow and wrist are aren't quite right, but nothing much to speak of. Stupid indian woman is very, very lucky. It could have been a bus, or someone hammering it along ths bus lane. Either way, she wouldn't be here right now. Doubtless her daughter is now screaming about the "killer biker" who tried to murder her mother, rather than the person that ended up on the floor with a bike on top of them, in an attempt to stop her from being killed.

:niceone: Always good when no one is maimed, mutilated or killed ... biking gods will sort it out! And don't worry about the pundits who will say "she was a noticeable hazard and you should have had it sorted sooner".

Good result all round I say!

If you had just run her over you could have claimed it all back as she was at fault.

If not you could have always gone to ACC.

Good for you to reacting quickly enough and avoiding serious damage to yourself, the stupid pedestrian (THEY don't even pay an ACC levy) or your bike. That is the important thing to realise - it could have been so much worse!

A mate was hit by a bunch of Asian folk in a big beamer a bit of damage they accepted fault gave names ect as well as he took the rego, no contact and they were not able to be contacted as address and phone numbers weren't correct, end result the police gave him rego address which turned out to be a vacant block of land.
Police advice to him was when in doubt take photos, especially good head shots, good use for mobile phone camera I recon

What an incredibly racist thing to say.

I can appreciate that someone just fucked up your gear through sheer carelessness, which sucks, and you're feeling cross about it, but what has her ethnicity got to do with it?

Would you be calling her a stupid white bitch if she was white? Doubt it.

I feel bad for your injuries and damaged bike, it was clearly a case of wrong place at wrong time, but I still think you're a douche.

How does this work that you rode home, my wifes bike has had clutch cable snap twice at the nipple bit on the clutch lever and been stranded twice!

Well done on not making anothe ACC statistic caused by bikes!!

Why are they allowed to cross the road without paying an ACC levy first?

First up, Breakaway: if she'd been from Mars, I'd have called her a stupid green bitch! Tell you what, you try having an off and behaving 100% rationally. I don't have a racist bone in my body. And, btw, the worst thing I called her was stupid. It was YOU that called her a bitch.

Glass houses, throwing stones etc...

Second, Murray: sorry, used wrong word, should have been clutch LEVER snapped off! Would have been quite an achievement riding without the cable!

Further inspection of bike this morning; clearly landing on a soft object (me) was a good result. Very slight scrape on engine case (you could get worse from stone chip), no damage to fairing, end of clutch lever snapped off, indicator popped slightly off mount. Rode to my regular servicing company on way in - and as Bandit parts fit the GSX650F (funny that!), they swopped lever over there and then, so sorted for v.little expense.

Which is nice.

Nice to hear a good outcome! How many miles you done on that thing now? Must have run it well in by now...

'S funny, many of the people commenting in this thread didn't understand all the information they were given, but one offsets that by reading what wasn't there.

Difficult...

Many people on KB don't actually read properly and it wouldn't be KB without the reactives who shoot first and worry about it later...

Hey Bob, glad you're not too damaged but in blighty you're supposed to call Indians Asians. If you accidentally call a Pakistani an Indian you can get one of those special Muslim blow jobs, y'know the ones with high explosive waistcoats?
