This is the content of my e-mail out to about 60 people in the South mainly
A lot of mid North Island riders in Streetstock and other young riders might be interested in tripping South for January. Or better still, some senior riders could support a young rider by bringing one south as part of their national campaign. Probabably for the cost of one set of tyres...
Pretty well every other sport has the older ones helping out the young ones. Isn't about time we started doing that too?
There are quite a few Aucklanders coming so it's gotta be easier for a few Vic area people, surely.....
PM if you have any q's
Hi all. Firstly wishing you all a nice Christmas time. Santa might bring you some new gloves, a tyre or such...
This e-mail is just a follow up to earlier stuff reminding people to think of their involvement in the National Championship in January.
1) Get your entry forms in! If you're not sure about how many rounds you can do, it doesn't hurt to enter anyway. With a bit of advance notice the clubs will refund your fee if you can't make it.
Go to www.kiwiracer.co.nz for the forms and rules
Because the printers close for Christmas, there is always pressure to know who will be there, so I've submitted a "best guess" entry list. If you're in the programme and never intended to enter, my apologies. (The same the other way round!) In the past I could ring everyone up, but work pressure lately has ruled out the time to do it.
2) The fields look great, so it will be top racing and overall a stunning series, not to be missed! EVERYONE, from the fastest to the slowest will develop heaps over these 3 weeks, guaranteed. If you have doubts regarding your competency enabling you to be safe out there, contact me. At present I see very few riding Streetstock that present a problem. The tail enders are recommended to wear a Hi Vis vest and this ensures they will be lapped safely and given plenty of room. And you fast ones reading this, remember rule 6.10. You MUST provide for the safety of the rider you are passing. I will be about, on and off the track to help out with any coaching matters.
3) Prepare your bike and riding gear. Check your MNZ book (or website www.MNZ.co.nz) regarding the rules for your bike!
Go to www.mci.net.nz, "news feed", then KOR entry form to get Machine Exam form. This is a good guide for you to check over your bike.
4) Spares. I will carry as much as I can with a spare bike or two plus "breakables" as well. But many of you have spares and/or
another bike not being used so plan by getting your spares together. Work as a team with others so your spares covers as many riders as possible without all the pressure landing on me. Thanks! I will bring a few spare front wheels as well. As you all know the rules require treaded tyres only if the steward declares the race wet. Again, check the rulebook. If you're running a front slick, then be prepared with a spare wheel or tyre.
Last year I did a fair bit of fixing between rounds so if you have a problem, just give me a yell. I have pretty well everything for an RG
5) Friday 15th Jan. Christchurch, at our place in Bishopdale. We will have social get together for the young and Streetstock riders.
BBQ / bring some food along format. The youngsters (on their own) will have a presentation from 3 young"ish" riders who already have great careers in Road Racing and their stories will be very interesting. Sam Smith, his experience as a top 600 rider and trips away to Australia riding classics, also at the highest level. Dom Jones and his 4 years in the USA riding Superbikes. Hayden Fitzgerald, his time in England and here in New Zealand, now working to the top of Superbikes in New Zealand.
No oldies or supporters allowed in the room! We'll get a video for others to hear and see later.
6) Saturday 30th Jan. Levels, at the club rooms. The same as 5) (above) but this time we'll get the much older riders to talk. Shaun Harris, Johhny Hepburn and others. The same rules. The young ones only!
And the Friday night? Well, nothing planned yet but last year Dennis Adair put together a great little coaching seminar. I'm sure we can something arranged like that again.
7) These Nationals will be well promoted and will be a real occasion for all to enjoy.
At Ruapuna we have TV coverage. If you want to ride Miniature Road Race (Buckets) there will be a lunchtime race on the small "tri oval" circuit. This grid will fill up pretty quick I'd imagine so if you want to ride then get this on your entry form quickly! (Just add it on?)
In the earlier years we grouped Streetstock together, but last year I felt it would good if they mixed in amongst the rest of the riders. This year the committee would like the "group" idea so we will pit together where we used to. This is not mandatory, obviously some riders have "team' associations with senior class riders etc and need to be with them. Fine. The area will be reserved from the little Kowhai tree in the middle of the pits through to halfway towards the clubhouse, including the grassy bit under the trees.
I'll tape it off earlier in the week so it'll be obvious where to go,
At Levels we have camping permitted, which will mean we'll have a great social time in the evenings. Friday, Sat and Sunday.
Bring a ball and we'll arrange some fun down in the big paddock.
Saturday, presentation from our legendary senior riders. see 6)
On Sunday the prizegiving will be at the track, in the clubrooms, with caterers providing meals.
I'd suggest we all pit along the back fence, camping from there down to the far end where there is a toilet block.
8) We have about 5 people from Auckland coming down so we will need a few people to help out with a bit of assistance here and there. Bikes sorting, a bed, a ride in the car. Airport pick up etc. Please let me know if you can help out. Thanks
That's about it. It'll be a great time so get out and enjoy as many rounds as you can do. If you can't then feel welcome to come along to help out and be part of the social / training side anyway. Have a great Christmas, and, as always, be good to your
sponsors. (For most of you this MUM and DAD)
