View Full Version : Who will be 2010's GP winners?

A little over a week to the start of the season, who's picking who to take home the silverware from Ruapuna? My picks for Supers and Supersport are....
Superbikes.
1st. A Stroud
2nd. R Bugden
3rd. C Shirrifs
Sadly supers looks like it will be thin again this year, Stroud winning would go against recent form but race tactics not pace held him back at this round last year were he smashed the lap record with a time .5 sec ahead of the rest, having the 1st round at Ruapuna gives him a good chance of leading from the first round and putting the pressure on Bugden who will be looking forward to heading to Teretonga were the Dunlops have had a recent advantage over the Pirelli shod bikes. Despite theHondas improvements over the off season it would be suprising to see them challenging for the win at Ruapuna, James Smith despite lack of time on the big bikes will make a fight of it for third with Shirrifs. Will we see the 1st sub 1.30 lap by a super?
Supersport
1st. Sam Love
2nd. James Smith
3rd. Glen Skachill
Big call picking Sam for this but if he can get his bike setup right, which seems to be his achilles heel so far this season, I can see him causing an upset. Wouldn't rule out seeing Jay Lawrence or Nick Cole on the podium after all is done and dusted. Looks to be the class that will provide the fierciest racing this summer.

ya, can't wait for this season to get underway, going to be a goody. I think the supers will be between those 3 with Jimmy smith hanging on with them at Ruapuna hopefull. 600 will be badass with James Smith usually bilstering fast on 600 and I'm sure there will be a gagle of riders trying to hang on including Dennis Charlett, Nick Cole, Skectchy, Sam Love and some others.

There are other classes racing as well y'know.
125GP:
1. Avalon Biddle (not on hot form right now, but loves Ruapuna and will find her mojo)
2. Glen Orwin (well, we can dream ay?)
3. Alie Hoogie (kit engine will develop issues while 1min out in front and be caught by the above).
2009 Champ is over the hill and won't last the distance, hehehehehe:shifty:
600:
1. Glen S
2. Glen S
3. Glen S
(ooops that looks a bit sucky!!)

I think it'll be between Stroud and Bugden, with the Hondas of Sheriffs and Fitzgerald 3rd and 4th.
crashes/dnf's could well decide the winner.
Sheriffs will push them if he can go "crashless"

I think it will be a quite closely faught series. The top 3 in sbk and top 4-5 in 600's will be very hard to separate. James Smith on paper should take the 600's but Nick Cole and Sketchy are definately two to watch out for.
For the GP at Ruapuna:
SBK 1st - Sherrifs 2nd - Stroud 3rd - Buggy
600 1st - Sketchy 2nd - Smith 3rd - Cole

Is Dom Jones riding in 600's??
I'm putting my money on Sloan for a place. Did no one else see him win the 3hr?? His fitness must be up there to do that!!
Would like to see Glen (Even though he only has one N) Skachill carry on his good run. 600's is gonna be an awesome class to watch thats for sure.
I think Avalon will be on the pipe! She's deserves it after Puke last year!!
Terry Fitzgerald has found something extra for this year I think he might be getting sick of the number 2 plate! If Glen Williams can sort out his bike it will be a good battle.

This is an odd comment mate, my memory (and I haven't raced him for a while admittedly) is that Nick is probably the most consistent 600 rider out there for staying upright. Or am I remembering wrong?

600SS
Jimmy,Sketchy,Sam Love,Nick Cole.
Any of the above in the Top 4.
Sketchy's lack of experience at Ruapuna will be a major disadvantage, however he did break the lap record in F3 first time at pukie. Should be interesting.
125GP
Alistar has shown the most speed by a fair margin over the winter, plus the rumours of an A-kit, will for sure make him a very very strong competitor for 1st.
The only person i can really see defeating him is, avalon. However she has been quite of the pace recentely, but rumours are that she's got her mojo once again. When this girls on it she is near instopable.
Jaden/Avalon/Tim McArthur all three in my books are pretty even atm.
Jaden is quick on his day but tends to get a bit hot headed and make mistakes, plus the fact he is riding with a fair injury.
Avalon like i said before, is instopable on her day. Hoping she gets her mojo back!
Tim is fairly quick but doesn't seem to have the same outright speed as the rest. Rather he is very consistent hence why he holds the number 1 plate.
My pick. Gah hard one.
1)Al
2)Avalon
3)Jaden
I'm gutted im not going to be racing.

No one will look close to Jimmy Smith at Ruapuna(and everywhere else) in the 600s,whats with all these north island riders winning down here?? Jimmy will open a HUGE can of whip ass on them all!
HONDA will dominate SBKs

Honda winning, is that Oamaru standup comedy? Jimmy is the man to beat in 600's and deserves it after 2 years as a bridesmaid even tho he is still ugly and from Waimate!!!

1) Slowpoke (dont let me down!!!!)
Hahahahahahaha, funny guy! Nah, I'm in with the big fullah's, so far outta of my depth I can't even see the shore. After racing Ruapuna today it's more evident than ever!
Has nobody noticed Stroudy's increased participation at the end of the Winter Series? He's been everywhere lately (Burt Munro, Tri-Series, Lady Wigram) He's turned it up a notch, is training hard and more driven than ever. One DNF and it's game over with the small field but my guess:
Supers:
1. Stroud
2. Craigy waigy (with a bit more grunt he won't have to ride the wheels off it)
3. Bugden
6 hundy's:
1. Jimmy Smith (He and Gareth were in a league of there own last season)
2. Nick Cole
3. Sketchy

It's going to be the best season for a while I think. :woohoo:
Looks like MNZ don't rate Sketchy at all. Do they know something we don't or do they just know nothing?
Meanwhile, in the 600 sports production class, Christchurch trio Dennis Charlett (Suzuki), Cameron Jones (Suzuki) and John Ross (Yamaha), Inglewood's Midge Smart (Suzuki), Hamilton's Nick Cole (Kawasaki), Tauranga's Sam Love (Yamaha), Taupo's Jamie Rajek (Honda) and Masterton's Jamie Galway (Honda) all look good for a podium finish this season.
National No.2 in this class, Christchurch's James Smith, will be doing double duty this season as the 29-year-old tackles the 600cc class again as well as making his superbike debut.

coppa's great, but people like andrew stroud, craig sherrifs and hayden, robbie, have huge sponsors which gives them an advantage.
id be suprised if choppa didnt get top 5 tho.
I deffintly think nick cole is goign to take out the 600 title, this year kawasaki are supporting him more, and from what i saw at wanganui he's one quick rider now.
