SOBA, Society Of Beer Advocates are a club promoting Craft Brewing. They put out a magazine every season or so, this Spring/Summer Issue they have published a notice from Lion Nathan that they they will be closing the brewery in Wellington due to high costs. I do hope that it doesnt mean the end of the pub. I reckon its one of the best (if not the only) biker friendly bars in the city!

Yeah, they are transferring the brewing to their canterbury brewery. For clarity this is the Craft Beer only...

It better be the end of the pub because that fucks a number of local brewing related events. Lion breweries and Mac's can get fucked. Royally. No more money from me you shitty two bit short-sighted fuck-knuckles. I don't guzzle my beer, ale, lager or pilsner so I'll drop the volume and drink imports only. Arrogant dickheads.

I wish Terry McCashin still owned the business he started....

You and me both. One of my lovely wife's friend's Mum lived right next door to the brewery in Stoke.
Yes there was a tap on the outside of the building for those in the know.

This always happens. Somneone starts up a brewery making decent beer . The big breweries buy him out . "Oh we will continue to make the good beer". A year or so later "Oh we are closing that brewery down, we will transfer production to our super duper huge brewery, it will be just as good". A couple of years later it's just another artificial chemical alcohol dosed fizz.
Bastards. And not Good Bastards , either.

The same could probably be said for most NZ beers.

I once worked at John Courage brewery in London.
The workshop was the stable, still had the iron rings in the walls and the stone feeding troughs. We (teh shift techies) used to bung a couple of crates outside a door in the back of the workshop, opening onto the old stable yard. This activity was strangely translucent to the otherwise very efficient security. Only on Thursdays mind.
Friday morning the beer would be transformed and reduced into a few bottles of right ‘ard stuff. Never did figure it out, but whatever arrangements caused the transmogrification were older than any then current staff’s tenure.

One consolation is the price has stayed competitive since he sold, and the product tastes the same, that's my take, and surprisingly my brothers view, and he must have shares in Macs seeing he has imbibed their beers since early 90's,his first beer of choice.

I believe that they will continue to brew it, only it will be brewed in Cantebury instead...
