I'm off for my Restricted on Thursday..what can I expect? I know there' the admin, photo/eye test stuff...then I know I go for a ride with some dude following me.....hell I'm nervous.

Can you let me know what you did...please and thank you xxx
Mine was a bit more recent, did it in 2004 on a slightly dodgy 1981 GSX250, I thought i should finally get around to it after having my learners for 17 years.

I just had a guy follow me in a car and had to watch the mirrors for him indicating and flashing lights to stop etc. With me not being a spotty 16 year old he was pretty casual and basically told me if I stayed upright and didn't break any laws I'd pass. Only took about 25 minutes and afterwards he apologised for sending me down a street that was being remodelled and resembled a river bed, and congratulated me on my avoidance skills and hand gestures when a bus pulled out as I was passing.

Main things to watch are speed and making sure you turn your head when checking side streets and changing lanes so it's obvious you're doing it.

Good luck

Just to make you feel better about this Genie, you have about 2000 members following you.

When I did my bike licence in 1969, I was told to ride 200 metres down the road, :scooter:do a u turn and come back and park, while the cop stood on the footpath and watched. It took all of 3 minutes and I walked away with a full licence. :gob:

I think you are probably a much better rider than I was at that time.

Good luck, even though you don't need it.

Rick.

Good luck for Thursday Genie.
Make sure you can do u-turns confidently without putting your feet down.
Indicate for 3 seconds before doing anything and definitely exagerate the head checks!!! the ear piece thingame is no biggie either...just get it really comfortable before you take off.
ALSO - Stop and put your foot down proper for Stop signs and be aware of what is around you. The hardest part I found was the hazard identification...only really because there were fuck all of them around when I did mine! But I did manage to name a few anyway - I think I cracked the guy up a bit because I identified way more hazards than he was looking for  He told me in the end it was ok to say there weren't any - to which I replied that stopping me to ask for non existant hazards was just mean and smartarse on it :) thankfully even with that little bit of lip I passed...in pissing bloody cold rain I might add - hope the weather is better for you :sunny:

BTW if you are sitting it in Porirua it's a standard loop track they take you around....you might feel more confident once you've ridden it a few times.

I'm off for my Restricted on Thursday..what can I expect?

I just got mine bout 2 weeks ago and it was really easy. You just have to go in confident and ride like you normally do.. except slower. As long as you don't get nervous you can't really fail, they're just making sure you aren't a completely useless rider so not much is expected just stick to the road rules.

they're just making sure you aren't a completely useless rider so not much is expected just stick to the road rules.

FIRSTLY: This isn't aimed at Genie OR Juda.

However it strikes me that the comment above highlights part of the problem with our rider licensing system. This is after all the test that 'if passed' means you are unrestricted in your riding hours while being able to legally get yourself on a bigger and more powerful bike....something has to change if that attitude is rife.

Frankly I would rather that we were actually "TESTED" not just observed not falling off and obeying the road rules correctly.

I should add that I was more "tested" during my practise runs with a riding instructor than I was in my restricted test...the hardest thing I had to do SKILLS WISE was a u-turn in a tight street without putting my feet down. I woud've thought an emergency braking test might have been on the cards too....

Hi genie & all,
Don't worry so much, if 'd fallen off my bike as much in waking life as I have in my dreams, I'd be typing this Stephen Hawking styles:shutup: I was 40 when I finally got round to getting a bike license & the tester couldn't crack a smile if it came in a shell. I thought she was gonna fail me just cause she could, especially after I kinda failed to follow instructions properly, (it's a boy thing):Punk: Oh yeah, just remembered, I failed to get a pass the first time I went for my restricted cause I'd lost my wallet in the pub the night before & they wouldn't let me even try :bye: (also a boy thing). But in the end it really was easy even though it was pissing rain.
Have a couple of vinos tonight & you'll be sweet.

P.S Don't spend too much of your hard earned cash on bling for the Wee Black Beasty, cause as soon as you have your full license you'll be starting to think about 600cc + so save save save.

Good luck

The weather wasn't too flash today...

Pretty strong winds and rain...

Genie
2nd September 2010, 20:46
I gotta say that Rev-it gear is the bomb. Felt like I was riding in a weather bomb today.

I got home from work about 11.30, threw some food at my mouth, started the parlava of putting on the leather stuff, looked out the window...few clouds around, bit of wind but not too bad. Best I don the over gear just in case, plus, seeing it was a bit chilly last thing I wanted was to get cold while some strange man was following me around.

Down to the garage....open seseame....ahhhh, my eyes gaze upong my Luscious Wee Black Beast.....key in, start....hmmmm - needs a new pipe!

Out the drive and time for a wee cruise around the city streets (haha, city, have you seen Nelson???), did me a couple of u-turns, three or four hill starts and fifteen minutes to go until my appointed hour and it starts pissing down! Great...awesome...thank you Rev-it.

Off to the local AA, undress a bit.....it still pisisng down and I'm thinking, gee that wind is getting atrong....hope I don't get blown off.

Just as well I'm early, didn't know one had to fill out a form...I booked online...all's good, eye test and photo. Almost falied the photo, bad hair day and a burb at that wrong moment (can't wait to see that pic!). Ok, Karen, thanks love you can go wait in that room down there.

Waiting....Waiting.....Waiting...30 minutes I'm waiting....read all about manure on the garden while watching the rain pelt against the window....eeeeek...it's fine I love the rain...puddle jumping is my third hobby.

A deep menacing voice booms through to my brain...Karen, are you ready? Eeek, it's him, the Tester! Breath....in....out....in...out....

All is fine..he's lovely, we have a wee joke...he laughs because I'm gonna get wet, I reply, no I'm not, I'm wearing Rev-it...another laugh.

Right, he gives me the head thingy....not a problem, tells me the route I'm taking and I'm like, what no hills, didn't hear a u-turn there...looking good.

Out the drive and a quick ride around the block, along what passes for a motorway and back to the AA. Only moment of panic....damn huge truck bearing down on me with water spray 15 feet high, damn near drowned me. Didnt' like that strong wind much so never got up too
100k, was really wanting to experience what it felt like to go that fast....oh well, I can now do it legally.

Yep, both me and the Rev-it gear passed the test today...I'm not a learner no more...but I'm kinda struggling with this restricted thing....I've never really like being restricted....best I get my full on December the 2nd then. Question then is will I upgrade......??????

While I was there I asked them some questions that I have seen raised on here....

The date for getting your licence coinciding with renewal time...apparently according to her in the know...you can renew your licence anytime. Mine is up for it in Feb next year but I can renew it in December when I sit full.....no extra charge there.

Next one was about the Defensive Driving Course...does not have to be motor cycle specific...just a defensive driving course...and he informed me of the cheaper rate in Nelson. Nice man he was.

Day is done...I rose to the challenge and I succeeded. Thanks heaps to all those who offered me advice and encourgement...you were all with me. You guys rock! Love and hugs....
So I'm now restricted, have had some questions answered, I'm very pleased with my Rev-it gear but was annoyed when the rain stopped and the sun came out once I returned home!!!

Case in point, I was on my back from the Waikato one darkin gloomy day, riding alone the expressway just north of Huntly (god bless that shit hole) I noticed a tall dark (black leather clad) gent walking in the grass aside the expressway, took me about 100mts to slow and stop (because he was carring a helmet) did see a bike anywhere but that was besdie the point, this dude needed a lift. As it turned out it was none other than our very own Mnkyby (or Monkeyboy) walking back to Manukau, well he had arranged for a mate to come a pick him up but hell, I was there so he became my pillion for the next 3/4 of an hour. The moral here is, thank god pillion carrying was not foreign to me.

Maha you raise a point I have taken to heart though. I should really get my arse sorted out and able/confident to take a pillion. I guess it's been easier and I feel happier about surrendering myself the back than taking someone elses life in my hands....would be different on my baby if not my man or a friend though and I wouldn't want to leave some poor bugger stranded if I actually had the means to help them out.

Boy oh boy, I'm having so much fun on my Beast.

Escaped life three times this week and have been working really hard on my body postion, trying different movements, you know, forward, back, left and right (depending on the corner). It's really interesting, also was a little naughty and did the 'no hands' as well.

But....along came today. WOW. I'd promised myself another trip up the lake to take a pic of my bike with the snow. I had to do it today as school holidays are here and there will be no riding, so off I went. I'd love to thank Rev-it for the absolutely wonderful rain/wind gear.....the winds were quite strong, at one point I looked down and riding in a straight line with one of my biggest leans on ever!!!! Talk about learning. I'm blessed as I don't really notice the wind much, my body just instinctively does what it needs to do to keep me upright. I overcooked one corner and had one of those moments where the bike goes where the eye looks and I froze for a millisecond, unfroze myself and gave myself a mental slap. I also noticed that my thighs had a good work out hugging that tank....made up for skipping the gym.

As well as some impressive wind, the cold was amazing, didn't realise it was cold until I lifted my visor a fraction, brrrrr and that was this side of the Hope Saddle I still had to mount that one and then down through Kawateri Junction and onto the Upper Buller trail.

That was when the rain really hit, and hard, and heavy. Me, I was nice and warm and dry inside my lovely Rev-it gear, can't really rave enough about that stuff.

I sat behind this yummy little PT Crusier and he kept a nice speed going, some really lovely curves through that road, saw ourselves a nice set of flashign lights too, glad they were going the other direction. Then the turn off, straight into some fiercer winds! Yikes, these thighs are still sore. I had the road to myself now, no-one in their right mind would be going up here today, the wind and rain and then....yes then it was snow. Brrrrrilliant! Just what I'd come for.
219414
It was just after here that I met up with some more rain and then we were there, still no other humans to be seen....
219413
...that was fine with me I'd come for this shot.

I got my shot and then I proceeded to venture home...had a wee detour with a bit of a fun slide getting out of here
219412

The rest of the ride home was more of the same until I got to Golden Downs, very golden it was too, the sun was shining, my fingers recovered feeling and a question has arisen, why is the trip home always faster than the trip away?

Unless you are riding on the track, losing the last 10 mm means that your style is probably wrong. The idea is to keep the bike as upright as possible in the corners. Its only really on the track where you (should be) going that fast that you are using the last 10mm. I blasted around Pukekohe at the ART day - all day - and still never lost the last 10mm. A guy on a Z1000 was doing the same speed as me, but not leaning as much in the corners, and he had nothing left of his last 10 mm shoulder...

:eek:If you dont' succeed then try, try, try again until you do. Lucky for me (or is that unlucky) it only took the one trip up and my ride was sorted.

I'd gone out last Sunday and had thought to pop over to Havelock for lunch, didn't even start the Whanga's when I returned home. My ride was just all wrong and I thought it best to go home.
Upon returning and removing my helmet my phone rang, Tamarillo's in Takaka and would I like to met him on top of the hill....hell yes. If anything can sort out my ride the hill can.
So, headphones backin, helmet back on, bike was in the driveway ready to go, throw the leg over, press the magic button and up the drive and away to the smooth sounds of Pink Floyd.
I was so going to find my zone....uhuh.
Wasn't there on the roundabout gliding my way around, wasnt' there on the (ahem) motorway, wasn't on the Ruby Bay road....ok, stop at Tasman, breath, it has to be here somewhere.
Helmet on and yes, I can feel it it's on the hill, there's the hill, right, bum right, arms right, seating good....the fucker's not here, every corner I was stiff, rigid and the higher I went the worse I became. It was awful, rough, tight, rigid....not the way to ride. Never fear, here's the top, Hi Tim, awsome day up here, some sexy bikes on the road, the veiw spectacular, the air fresh and crisp.
My zone must be on the way down....it wasn't, it wasn't on the Westbank either, neither was it hiding along the Motueka Valley, maybe it was hiding along the Moutere Highway,....nada, not. Well fuck this, I'm getting a bit worked up so I dig deep within myself to get my bloody ride right but I failed.
I did make it home safely (for that I am thankful as some didn't) but the ride had left me hugely disappointed with myself, what was the point of owning a bike if I ride like this. I have one of the sexiest little learner bikes around (my opinion) and I'm letting it down by riding like a stick.
Have since been informed of some stuff going on at the same time so maybe my vibes, intuition was sensing something else in the air and it put me off my game. With that in mind I took myself out for a nice wee play around the port hills here in Nelson, nice homes up there and I just took note of the way I'm entering corners, exiting them, noticed that I dont' tend to use my brakes overly much, throttle on and off with little breakage so maybe I'll look at not being afraid to use that front brake. I'm not on my old pushbike that threw my over the handle bars when I used its' front brake.
So with that in mind I put the bike away ready for a Friday Special.
Oh boy and what a special day it was.
I finished work early, walked sedately home enjoying the sunshine and when I got home my bike was so ready to take me out, I just had to oblige.
Right, gear on and I'm happy to say that the give up smoking bottom is disappearing and my pants do not pop-a-dome anymore.
Off I went and the moment my feet left the ground I knew I had it. I was there before I left the driveway, this was going to be a magnificient ride. Oh the gear changes, smooth, free, easy, flowing...the whole ride was graceful....i found I can use my brake sharply and I will not go over the handle bars.
Right, then best I go conquer the hill. Such a awesome day, filled up the petrol in Motueka, I'm so glad they don't enforce that remove your helmet thingy, slow ride along High Street, which I must say has vastly improved, Thanks TDC.

Around a few sweeping corners, past a couple of campervans and trucks and here I was at the base of the hill and five slowpokes in front of me, how the hell will i test myself with these plonkers, i'm so not into overtaking on corners, oh looksie, what lovely people allowing the lady on her Ninja to sail past them...I was away and I was loving it, working out just what my issue is with tight left hand bends and overcoming that one, overcame and scrapped my toe a couple of times....
Yesterday's ride was like a new beginning in my riding life, something twigged inside my head, a light came on and I can see a whole new world...shame i have to wait until next Friday to go exploring

For some you could be right, for others not.
For me, I ride without or without music and find that with music I get more of a flow on, I've always been influenced by music....my mind is too damn busy and I find the music slows it down to a level at which I can function...ADHD anyone?

Some days for whatever reason it just doesn't seem to work, maybe the other stuff lurking at the back of your mind has more of an effect than you think. If it's not happening you can end up thinking too much and trying too hard, and making it worse not better. Usually when it gets like that I slow down, relax, and enjoy a cruisy ride. The road will still be there the next time.

I've don't ride with music going, after all what's the point of a big noisy twin if you can't hear it.:Punk:

Hey there Genie, glad you've got things going good.
I'm a rider who likes as few distractions as possible and that also includes music. You;ve said you ride with or without it thats a good thing, but please, listen to the old riders Ha, I'm gunna get flamed for that, they know what they're talking about.
With experience comes complacency, music and any other sort of distraction stops you seeing and hearing whats happening around you.
Don't be fooled by that big ol helmet, it does not stop the sound of screeching brakes, music does, it's that simple.
Go ride those hills and ride those busy ( in Nelson? Yeah Right!) roads and when in lots of trafic you may come to understand the wisdom of not blocking out one of your best life preservers, Ears.

My bike screams....I need something more throaty, I was going to get a new pipe for it but have decided I'll leave it for now as I may just desire a more powerful beast in the future.

I can still hear my bike over the music, I'm not blasting my ears in oblivion.

Hey Chook.
I have to say i agree about the music.
If your listening to that then your mind isn't in the right place to be safe really.
Car is fine as they tend to drive themselves to certain extent, but the bike needs 100% all the time.
One little distraction can be the beginning of the end.
If your not mentally tired by the end of a ride you aint doin it right.
Not sure if i'm one of those old buggers he was talking about but i am sure about the music.

Maybe a little depends on whether your sounds are coming from speakers in helmet, as some do, or from the earplugs. I know if it's earplugs then you can't hear external sounds anywhere near as well as you would if they were speakers in helmet, somewhat like a car stereo as such.
I have a big intolerance of people who wear the ipod ear pieces and pretty much ignore you when you try to speak to them (my daughters are one example):shit:

I went to Inangahua today, I'd planned on Westport but due to work I didn't escape until 1.3pm ... went as far as I could and I loved every one of those 355 kilometres that I did.

Phew, it was amazing.

I'm still on such a buzz from what my life has given me on this day. I am blessed for I have an insect riddled visor. Seriously, at least 30 insects were splatted upon my visor, one poor bee at about 140k. Nice!

OMG, I need to do the rest of the Buller Gorge, what a delicious piece of road. I so wanted to go the whole way, but being Mother bought be home.

I'd great plans to escape and perfect my riding technique for the day. I have acheived. My curvature has moved to a new level. Today I found a new smoothness...sitting behind Mr Policeman at 100k's is a way to learn great throttle control. Think I sat on his arse for nigh on 50k's, then the kindly gentleman got the fuck out of my way so I could travel at a comfortable speed, he even gave me a nice cheery wave on the way past. How pleasant, can't say the same for the scarey Harley Riding Gentlemen from the Lone Legion and Highway Forty-five. Fair shit myself I did, some passed in a gentlemanly manner whereas a couple were rather agressive and fucken stupid, but who am I to judge how another rides??? Had one couple pass me three times, was amusing by the third pass we were great friends...they were amusing and when I'd turned around to passed them again they waved!!!!
Harley riders can wave.

Super enjoyed my day and this goes into the preparation basket, preparing for my glorious North Island Jaunt to be completed in early 2011.
I'm planning and I know I can easliy manage 500k a day.....and I wont' have to return home at that end of the day.
That's a buggar, I would so love to be anywhere than here right now.

Time I was abed, I have work tomorrow and I must also remove all those insects from my bike.
My delicious bike, I'm buying it a present. Nice shiny new Two Brothers Noise Maker.

Yet, I didn't, I washed the floors instead. Maybe today I may get a chance to do so. How is your rattly doing? That was sadish news.

did you know it is also very dangerous (as well as ugly), not to have the knobby bit on the end for if one has a crash the end of the handle could cause stabbing damage, that would not be pleasant.

wow, it's been ages since I came to this page...has the fun then stopped?

No, but it has gone rather quiet of late.

I've had some amazing rides, the most memorable of late would be 31 December, 2010. Took a couple of lovely Welshmen for a ride to the base of the Takaka Hill, we took the 'long' route. Once at the base I said go for it...and off we went. Brilliant ride for me that day. I was riding in a style I'd not seen before. Straight over the top of this wonderous hill and down into the valley and out to the beach for the yummiest lunch. The scenery, wow, Golden Bay sure has it. I can still picture the blue of the sea and the gold of the sand and I feel this feeling of bliss overcome me.

Well, that was last year, this year has been slow so far. Couple of wee rides around the Moutere block, no time to really play the roads soooooooo, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow.

Tomorrow is anniversary day in my garage. Me and Black Beast have been in love for a whole year. We've had a couple of minor mis-understandings that were entirely my fault and I have apoligised profusely and replaced the broken clutch lever and indicators. I've also just had it down the shop for the 12k service and the 'Two Bros' tuneup.....oh dear Lord it sounds so sweet. I couldn't beleive the difference in sound....smoothly, deeper, raw. I love it.

And tomorrow me and Beasty are off to Picton for lunch. I'll be having a delicious Black Russian to celebrate and well the Beast just got the tastiest oil.

So I'm wishing me and Beasty a very happy anniversary.

All in all it's been a fantastic time to get to here, couple of minor drops that left a couple of scars on my bike :shit:, but apparently that adds to the character.

Such a beautiful bike with such smooth gracious lines, and I must say my riding since day one has become so very smooth and gracious. My riding now matches my bike. Though I do still have those weird gear changes every now and again ... if you know what I mean.

I've also come to very much love riding over the Whangamoas, it was my pet fear at one time, loved the Takaka Hill way more, but I've overcome that fear and have such freedom now with the corners that make that superb hill.

How blessed I am to own such a beautiful wee bike and blessed again that Nelson is surrounded by such lovely twisties and turnies and views to die for. That doesn't even begin to include all the other blessings in my life.

I've been due to go and get my full licencse for the last month but all this other stuff gets in the way. I"m not in any great hurry for I'm not upgrading my bike to a bigger more powerful one, I have all I need in what I've got. It's a zippy little thing, just the right height and weight (four lay-downs and counting), so why would I want to get rid of it for something different. It's like trading in my boyfriend because I certain time had passed. Not for this lass, I'm committed to this wee bike, it's got at least 200 000k left it in for me....that's gonna to take me a few years

Speakng of which, it's rather dirty from the last weeks worth of riding, we covered a bit, so best I go give my baby a nice warm wash followed by some love and attention of the shiny sort.

Went out today in the wild wet weather and it was so much fun.

Decided that the weather wasn't holding me back, I really needed that fix. Life has been up and down of late and I've been neglecting myself on so many levels. The most important one being time out on my bike. Crazy.

So this morning after the children left I phoned my friend over Rai Valley to say I was coming over, she likes to know as she's a worrier (she luvs me), she informed me that the road was closed, aha, but only from Rai Valley through to Havelock.

Went down the den and started up me wee beast, what a heavenly sound, the aroma sent from the Gods to tell me I live. I donned all the leather bits and bobs and then covered myself in the the waterproof stuff...looked a right treat in the mirror. I also put on my new scarfie thing I'd made. I'm impressed too, it's way betterer than my bought one. It's taking me a bit of getting used to, having something covering my mouth and nose....wierd.

By the time I'd got all this gear on my bike was well and truely warmed up and ready to roll. As soon as I got out the driveaway this gust of wind came at me and woke me up real smart. Right, this wil be a challenging ride, just what I need.

Oh and wasn't it just.

Going around rocks road was special, the waves had been crashing all over the road, traffic at a slow speed, slippage from the cliffs....I was loving it. This was way better than vaccuming.

Headed out of town to be once again assaulted with some high strength gusts of wind, I so love being blown about, makes me really ride. Little did I know this was only the beginning of the fun. I decided slow and steady for today but once I got out of town the throttle tends to get a life of it's own and I'm over that mark - again. Slap myself and slow it down, I need my licence. I think it was the sense of freedom, at last I'd got out and was really riding. It has been a while.

I get the bottom of the Whangamoas to be met by some lovely gentlemen from Downers who inform the road is closed from Rai, that's fun mate, I'm only going to Rai, be careful he says, there's some slips on the hills. OK says me.

Slips my arse, stuff all had come down, it was more the amount of moisture upon the smooth asphalt that was an issue. Some corners had torrents of water running across them, a very new experience for me and at last I get to feel what it's like to lose the arse end of the bike...weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Is it bad to say I loved it? I absolutely loved that feeling of out of controlness, the burst of fear, am I going to come off here, eek, I don't want to scratch my bike....happy to say I didn't come off. I rode my bike. I really rode it through and came out smiling and screaming this big yahoo. So, what does me do now? I start looking for more slippy corners...found about four more, it was so much fun.

But all to soon I've reached my destination. Had to contain myself somewhat as I've I'd let worry girl know I'd had so much fun slip sliding around the corners she wouldn't let me ride home. As it was she was overly concerned about the return journey as there was quite some downpouring going on outside.

After an hour or so or female time wasting I donned all the gear, threw my leg over and off I went. The coming home is always so much better for me. It's like the ride there (where-ever there is), is always kinda subdued, the time i'm finding my legs, testing myself where as the ride home is always the time where I push myself that little bit more. Today's ride home was exceptional but then I had wee issue whereby I needed to pull over and for the first time ever the tool kit came out to be used on my bike. LOL. I'd had a new mirror put on a while ago and it had come loose in the wind and I rather rely upon my mirrors and when one is out of action it throws out the whole riding experience.

So, I'm on top of the Whanga's, getting the tool kit out and this lovely young fella stops and offers to help me. So special, think I disappointed him when I declined and said I could do it quite well thank you. He left in a spray of gravel and a flick of his rearend.

A rather amusing morning out for me and I'm annoyed I have to wait until Monday for my next outing.

wow...it's been some time since I rambled on here and sometime since I had me a decent ride.

Life has been so busy of late...bugga

I've only had the time for short excursions and shopping trips on my trusty steed and today the sun shone and I decided to get out and go play on my hill. (Takaka that is for those that don't know)

I piled up three thermal tops, my leather jacket and my wamr and toasty over jacket, plus pantyhose, tights, socks, leather pants and overpants....neckwarmer, gloves and overgloves....sauna time.

Not quite but I was comfortable. It was a rather chilly day here in paradise but the sun shone brightly and I took myself over to the hill.

Sad thing was my ride did not thrill me the way it used to. Has riding lost it's lustre for me? I hope not, I feel this maybe because I've not challenged myself in this form for so long. Life has got mundane, thank God i'm off out tomorrow night but still....I need my thril.

My ride up the hill was a challenge. Lots of wet slippery corners, pea gravel on most corners, my senses were alert but still it was boring!!! A ride should never be boring. I know that I didnt' push myself, with all those layers on I could barely move so I more 'sat' on my bike than 'rode' it. I think I need summer, shame I will have to wait so long, but in the mean time, I think I need to get out more. I will not allow my life to get too busy that I do not have my thrill.....

Becuase it did not thrill you lovely lady does not mean it will not again. Today was just one of those days where the senses in the body are not matched by that ride on the road. It's a head space thing. And when you get back into the headspace (tomorrow night will be heading in the right direction) then that thrill will bite you on the arse once again.

mmmmm Takaka. I dream of it often. I miss it longingly. I couldn;t have smiled any more that day if I tried. And I couldn't have worn off anymore of the boulevards footpegs if I tried either.

hahahaha scraping footpegs! Did it on the Sportster last weekend for the first time! When I metioned it later to the other bikers, I got some horrified looks!

I think the cold takes some of the pleasure out of it - you have to work too hard to stay warm to be able to focus on the enjoyment!

...and it's way more thrilling this time round.

Oh, it's been an absolute age since I've been here. My life got super busy, I was working too much, racing around being mum/dad and everything in between and my bike was neglected to the garage, albeit a fully carpeted, warm cosy one, and reg was put on hold! Terrible thing to do to such a beautiful wee bike.

Reg is still on hold but we snuck out of the house and went for a most enjoyable ride over the Whangmoas to visit with my friend in Rai Valley. Was an absolute thrill for me as I'd spent 7 weeks in plaster/moonboot due to doing a teeeny, weeeny bit of damage to my achillies tendon. That has knitted together nicely and it is time to rebuild. Rebuilding my confidence on my bike as well.

My first little excusion was last week. I thought I'd pop up the garage and put some air in the tyres. Well, that went so well I rode all the way over to Mapua and sat and watched the bird life for 30 minutes. Very serene and most unusual for me to sit peacefully for that long.

Yesterday's ride was a little more adventurous as that hill was my biggest fear for quite some time and I really wanted to 'ride' it. This was made a little bit more of a challenge considering my leather gear is away being repaired (coming home today), so I was that little bit extra cautious of not wanting to lose any skin.

OH, it was fantastic, to hear my bike roar up the hill, thank you to my dear friend for my lovely noise maker, to hear the echo bouncing all over those hills. To lean myself that little bit further into those corners,to push my body and to feel how my body makes the bike move, a most erotic feeling really, to feel so alive and be so in tune with my body! I was rather impressed with my little ride though my dear RSI seems to be rearing it's ugly head.

One may well be wondering what on earth this has to do with turning 17, it had everything to do with it as me and my trusty steed clocked 17000 on our way up the hill. If any of you have read this thread you'll see I get all excited over these little moments, they are precious to me. They show me just what I am acheiving and how far I have come...literally.

In buying this bike, I have learnt so very much about myself, I have grown in ways I would never of imagined, my fears that I have overcome have been many, what I have gained, and am still to gain is limitless.

Again I wish to thank my very special friend for encouraging me and giving me the confidence to believe in myself.

Thank you. I am acclimatising quite nicely. I do have a bit of the hoon in me but he only comes over once a week....:killingme

Joking aside, I do get a bit silly out there but my five wonderful children keep me in check, plus the fact I do not want to get hurt so there is no way I am going to ride beyond my ability.

I ruptured my achillies a couple of months ago, so I thought it a very good time to get the zip replaced in my jacket, it broke but I just kept using it. Also, my super yummy pants needed new domes, it was my short stint as a fat biker and the domes had popped. Jacket and pants arrived home today and as soon as they did I had a wee try on....oh was nice to feel my body encased within the luxury of some quality gear.

Tomorrow would/could/should be a riding day but four of those five children still need me so I guess Monday will be my time for a nice little adventure up the hill, the Takaka one this time.

Rides have been few and far between over the last few months and I really lost my mojo when my ankle had me off for three months. I lost quite alot of confidence and my riding was suck. Have developed some of the old fears and really needed to build up some confidence.

I'd been for a couple of short rides with a new friend lately and she gave me some much appreciated feedback that bought the levels up somewhat. Then on Monday I took myself off to the Port Nelson Street Races and just watching how the big boys do it at speed opened up my eyes.

I also spent some time in conversation with a racer from days gone by and his input bought on more changes, plus I had a rather handsome house guest and some of our conversations also contributed to me having one the bestest rides ever last night.

My big boy had offered to come over so I could escape and clean out some much annoying cobwebs. He arrived for dinner at 6, I fed him, and the little ones and was on the road by 6.15pm.

My cutsie little bike took my over the Whangamoas for a wee education. Wow, was it fun. I really got into the groove of moving my body in those corners...I pushed myself past the moment of, that's not possible and realised that it is indeed possible. Yeeeeeehaaaa!

I know I can I do more and I'm looking forward to my next little blat about the hills, I'm learning that my mind and my body are I am capable of greatness. I know that this year I shall be doing loads of riding, especailly down through the Buller which I have only ever done half way! Sad indeed, time for changes and the time is NOW!
