Wednesday and Thursday for you then matey, although no one held up the KTM last week, seemed to be only 4 250's out of the whole pack of 12!!!
Tuesdays a 'slow mentoring' ride, intended for a quite toodle and where experienced riders can mentor newbies etc
Wednesday is a medium (own pace) ride for all levels.
Thursday is for the brave and radar detector touting lunatic set
:)
Yeah that was the most diverse group we have had yet. First week had more L platers, which seems all but extinct now. I guess we could call them Learnersaurus.
Tuesday is a very slow pace, but not a mentor ride and no mentors attend. It'sjust a facility for slower/newer riders to come out of the closet and have a go with other bikers prepared to keep the pace down to a non-pants-filling pace.
I try to go to all three rides each week, gets faster as the week progresses which is great fun. I just love Thursday and the resulting weekend rides!
Nothing wrong with being nuts. Nuts are good for us.
Hopefully we will see you on a ride when work doesn't call you away mate!

Made it home ok.... got left behind a bit as we had to stop at the pedestrian crossing before Days Bay, but caught up and were right behind you at the lights at Avalon turning onto SH2 (we were 2 cars back from you guys - know it was you , I could smell the garlic :bleh:)
Cath is still a bit nervous at 100 on the motorway though - not of the 100k, but of getting caught, so stuck to about 85 - 90k - so we lost you all again ! :bye:

A very enjoyable evening ride last night - ride report link at bottom here.
Next Wednesday will be the penultimate Tuesday Ride. The programmed ride takes us from the Duckpond over the Haywards down SH1 to Johnsonville and then out to Makara. My thoughts are to take the ride only as far as Makara Beach and then return to the Inn at Johnsonville, that we have been to previously.
As briefly mentioned last night there may be ‘An End Of Daylight Saving Sunday Ride on 28th March' and this can be finalised next Tuesday evening. I will put up a few suggestions in this Tuesday forum thread shortly.
Finally, Tueday 30th March, this will be a short 30 minute ride to a ‘food destination - particularly for those who enjoy garlic aroma in their helmet’ and an opportunity to talk about the rides program just completed and generally to look ahead through winter and whatever weekend rides you may want to arrange between yourselves – and by all means use the KB Calendar and Forums.

Although, when you did turn the engine on you blitzed down the road, thought you might have coughed or
something and "accidentally" twisted the throttle. Wish the lil ol'250 had that kind of pick up from 80k....

Glad you all enjoyed the ride tonight. I sent Toaster a text around 8pm so I expect you all know now that the Kawasaki Green Machine has moved on to greener pastures. A novice rider from Wellington is riding home on what I can truly say is an excellent bike for the young and old, newbies, returning to riding riders, and those that, like me down-sized from the 900cc for the summer.
Will see you next Tuesday evening at the duckpond and yep in the cage, will join you for the end of daylight saving meal stop.

Yeah, jville/makara road can be bumpy, I found the haywards road far bumpier though - makes me want to upgrade my rear shock soon.
Congrats on selling the bike Guy.

I've noted we all seem to be willing to pack it in for the winter. Is there a reason for this? I fail to see any reason, apart from occasional bursts of violent winds, why we could not just carry on over the winter months. Perhaps shorter rides to a cafe/bar or similar wateringhole would be in order?
Although after being outnumbered by outlanders last night, I do think the Kiwis could put on a better showing!
Given that we are a pretty scattered bunch, can we take it in turns each week to nominate an ending spot in the area we live? A spot in town one week followed by a spot in the Hutt followed by a spot in Porirua. You with me? So since we ended up in Tinakori road last night, perhaps we could find somewhere in Porirua next week? Then somewhere in the HUtt the following week.
This way, as long as we stick to the plan, then folk who can't find us on the road will at least know where we are heading for and can join us at that point.

Might do a few but wouldn't be able to commit to anything. If I have the choice, I prefer to ride with a bit of light (especially for my route home, and especially during the colder months. Not going to risk hitting black ice on a tight bend in the pitch black).
Might be a good idea, but good weather seems to be much more fun to ride in than the winter weather I have experienced here in Wellington these last few years. But hey, sure I would be up for it on a good night, having not had as many rides through the weeks.

I think the main reason that the rides were planned to end around now as the organiser (buck buck) expected to sell his bike by now - which he predicted very well.
Perosnally, not too keen on after work rides over the winter months due to the early darkness (you'd just be concentrating on the red light in front of you for most of the ride).
But, if the Tuesday night rides did continue past daylight savings it'll need a new organiser (can't expect buck buck to organise them now he's a cager, lol).
That said, I am always up for a ride over the rimutakas over the weekend. I just don't usually have people to go with, so tend to go up paekok as a quick blat instead. Plus, meeting on a weekend day would mean that you have the light, and you can predict the weather a few days out.
Anyone up for any weekend rides over the takas just let me know.

A few things:
Firstly, it has been great to come along and meet you all.
Great to get out and do a few roads with newer riders and help encourage social and active regular participation. It was a good environment for practice for all involved.
Lastly, you are all soft. Fancy not riding in the dark when it gets cold and windy! My bike is currently sitting outside in the driving rain getting a post-makara beach salt wash off.
But seriously, hope to see you all out and about at other social rides when they are organised. Ride safe. Have fun.

Yeah but my bike is naked so it feels the cold more. I'm fine - it's just my ride that I'm worried about.
All joking aside, a big thankyou to Buck Buck for taking all the time and effort to arrange the rides.

I've noted we all seem to be willing to pack it in for the winter. Is there a reason for this?
as with the established wednesday night ride, at the end of daylight savings there will be a few hardy souls willing to carry on, but they soon disapear as the weather gets colder, summer 08-09 I went on a lot of group rides, the end of daylight savings was when I learnt if you want to carry on riding, either get used to riding alone or find 1 or 2 friends willing to HTFU too

O.K I'll be the firs to admit - IM SOFT. There, its been said. No excuses anymore, I am soft and need to harden up for the winter. I think a new bike might be just the answer - I reckon I should treat myself, then I'll be much tougher. (Don't hold me to that)
Ratti
24th March 2010, 16:27
hmm, ok so I foresee a lot of riding alone going on. o well, such is life. No doubt I wil pack it in on nasty days as well. Use the time to fix my seat and sort out the shocks. Biggest problem is that I have time during weekdays and hardly anyone else does. Have found a couple of hardy souls in the BFTP group who can dodge work during the week so that might be it for me over winter.
You're not soft Katie. Sensible is all, Im getting carried away is all, Ignore me and I'll go away until summer.

I will be keen for a ride on any nice weekend of the year.
All going well I should be able to attend next weeks final ride before heading off for a ride down the Mainland the next day.
Guy, cheers for organising these rides, and although it's a shame you're no longer riding, congrats on selling the bike. I hope you miss it.
See you all on Tuesday (I hope)

OK, just posted up a proposed ridge run for around 11am this saturday (27th March).
Anyone interested?
Posted it on the ridge runners group :
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?do=discuss&discussionid=1481
Seems pretty quiet in that group so I though I'd post it on here as well.
Anyone up for a ride over the takas this saturday then? Around 11am?
Can meet at the duckpond if anyone wants to go.

30th The final ride of the daylight saving season - a 30 minute ride to a 'food destination'. Ah Hum someone will be arriving in a cage. :scooter::yes::scooter::yes:
Over the Wainui Hill circle the first roundabout then back over the hill and around to Eastbourne, or
Over Haywards along Greys Rd and to Monteiths Bar at Mana,
Or, the local fish and chip shop and over to Rattis.
See you all tomorrow evening.

Happy to oblige as a destination, BYO alcoholic refreshments, I have reall coffee and various teas for anyone who imbibes such.
I also have heaps of offroad parking on level concrete for up to about 30 bikes, if they dont mind snuggling up a bit.
If the consensus is to come here, then I'd like to suggest a circuit ride over Haywards, through the off motorway roads as far south as we can get , down the Gorge then back up the Hutt side to my house. The route we went with Toaster last week was really interesting, I'd be keen to explore that road a little further...with map and someone who knows where we are heading and how to get there.
We could pre order fish and chips from the local award winning Chippie before we leave and pick them up at a pre arranged time.
