I've found myself another bike which i may be picking up today. It's a 1988 Honda Spada, recently imported from japan, has 10kl on the opdemeter but i know that's bullshit, it's in great condition no scratches or dents rust is only on the screws which can be replaced and over the bike is in great condition, engine runs great and the paint job just needs a polish.

Lets hope i'm not making a mistake buying a 22 year old bike.

Honda Spada's are nice bikes. If your worried ask The Motorcycle Doctor to check it out for you before you buy it.

We had a look at it, and i'm seriously convinced on getting it tomorrow, i hear they are good bikes and really the condition it's in combined with the age i can tell that the past owners (including japanese) took good care of it.

You should check how old the tyres are before you get too far in your riding, especially if the k's are as low as the odo claims, with such low ks those tyres could be ancient.

Search here, there will be a thread that tells you which numbers on the tyre are the date somewhere. Even if the tyre looks ok, an old tyre can have serious performance degradation leading to embarrassing potentially painfull moments :-)

The front tyre is new, got put on a month a go, the rear tyre needs to be replaced before the next warrant, it's a bit low bit still enough for a safe ride.

As with all bikes, to get the best out of it, you need decent tyres. No cheap shit, you hear? Spadas like Sport Demons.

Yessir, by any chance are you a spokesperson for Pirelli?

Nope. SDs are just great tyres. You could also try Bridgestones...BT45s work well too. Of course, Spadas have rims that will take radials if you'd prefer...but most of that type are sized for bigger bikes.

They're nice wee bikes....can take a thrashing too. As for the k's on it, they could well be kosher as most Japs only ride in the warmer months so probably spent 6months of every year in the shed.
I can vouch for the Bridge stones as they are what Im using on mine racing in Prolights (BT 090).

Mine only had 8000km on the clock two years ago and was a lot rougher than yours - I lol'd but took it anyway and did about 20,000 kms over 18 months. It never missed a beat, handled like a mountain bike, and sold for $500 less than what I paid for it. Got heaps of admiring comments on it too, they're good-looking bikes.
