Wife is hellbent on getting a dishwasher, Can anyone who knows white ware make a recommendation?

When Im rich, Im going to own two dishwashers and rotate dishes between them.

One has dirty dishes, the other clean. When the clean dishwasher is empty and the dirty one is full, the dishes get washed and then they slowly migrate back to the other dishwasher.

Dish drawer FTW.....

My (now) wife refused to move in with me unless we got a house with a dishwasher.

When I'm rich I'm not going to give a damn how the dishes are cleaned.

If fact, I'll have a use once and destroy policy.

Fitted a fancy Bosch one about 9 years ago. It goes every day and has never had any issues at all.

Well not strictly true - after you get the dishwasher then the issue is who is going to empty the clean dishes out of it (in our case early the next morning). Luckly for me my daughter is now old enough to take on this responsible task!

Dish- draws - since you can run the draws separately I presume you end up going through a lot more dishwasher powder (or tablets).

And a tip form my own error - if you run out of dishwasher powder DO NOT substitute it with dishwashing liquid ....... unless you like bubbles, lots of bubbles, all over the floor and kitchen!

Don't get fisher and paykel or beaumatic. Bosh or LG I would recommend. Should be able to pick one up for around $1300-1500 that will wash your dishes properly.

It was the entire force her to look after the kids, the house, and earn an income while I remain unemployed and drop 20 grand on a new bike that upset the balance.

oh yeah, and the 50" Plasma I bought for Christmas didn't help.

They are drawERS, drawers...

A draw is what a cowboy does.

And if you have one of them new-fangled electical dish-washin' gee-gaws ya need twice as many dishes, one lot in the washer and the other to use while the first are in the washer...

We used to too.

Now we just treat them as normal drawers, remove dishes/cutlery, use them, put 'em back and push teh button.

I got a Haier dishwasher about 5 years ago. Can't remember how I chose it but knowing me it would have been best bang for the buck. Cost about $800 from memory and while it has had the odd incident I'd happily buy another one.

Interesting, we were shown one of those today in Noel Leemings, I told him to never mention it to us again.

We have had F&P dishdrawers for years and while they have had a couple of minor problems, nothing that would convince me to ever consider any other type. Most of the time we use only one drawer, which saves water and powder, but when you have a house-full for dinner, you have the extra capacity to cope. Occaisionally we'll use the bottom drawer just for a change...

Have never had a good run with Simpson and will bever buy another Simpson product.

+1 for dishdrawers, Best anti wife nagging invention ever. Only problem we ever had was putting too much powder in one and having a wee bubbles issue.

I bought me an elba 6 months ago from smiths city ($800), easy installation, did it myself. Dishwasher has now died, motherboard or something, warranty - thanks goodness. Had a f and p for about 15 before that one shit itself.

Buy a dishwasher, it is a decision you will not regret. More time to do other things - like riding the bike.

I have had F&P dishwashers (and other appliances) for 30 years and will buy that brand again. They work well and are reliable - other than wearing out from a lot of use. I would compare them in terms of reliability with the numerous Toyota cars I have owned. So what is your issue with F&P?

We have a double dish drawer that is now about 5 years old. It was very reliable for the first 4 1/2 years but has had a few issues lately.
Now, with new drawer lids, four drawer lid motors and the main power board later, it is mostly ok again, apart from an annoying intermittent that trips the RCD at the switchboard occasionally.

THe design has had quite a few changes since first inception so the bugs should have been worked out. I'd buy another.

Consumer magazine rated Whirlpool at the top (bang for buck, etc, etc).
We bought a westinghouse though.

Don't touch fuckup and paykel. Shocking stuff.

For years I could never see what all the fuss about when it come to dishwashers.
I would perfer to get them done and put away.

Bad Points about Dishwashers

: You need way more dishes in the cupboard than normal because you run out.
: Kids love them but dont know how to use them.
: If the dishwasher is ready to be emptied, kids will not see this as thier job.
: They can smell a bit after a a couple of days (no not the kids)... should have rinsed that chilli/garlick bowl afterall.
: Cuttlery can stain after prolonged use.
: Even Stainless Steel.

if you run out of dishes put the dishwasher on
Kids are easy to teach
as above
if it smells put it on
If you have stains on stainless steel it ussually polishes off easily

Last house we bought a Simpson one, went great and gave us no problems, cheaper than the euro stuff and heaps better than the chinese crap.

Not too hard to install, just need a power point, cold water and a drain. If it's near the sink change the trap for one with a diswasher drain fitting, and if you have screw fittings on the wall for your taps then add in a t adapter and a ball valve and you're done. Power point is usually the pain in the arse bit.

Don't touch Elba cheap Mexican shit. F&P used to be good not anymore.

Hahahaha. My wife made that mistake in her first encounter with a dishwasher. I came home to find suds coming down the stairs...

Now we don't have one. Our one broke down and fixing it will be close to the cost of a new one. Considering the volume of dishes and that it takes about 15 minutes to wash everything - it's much easier to just do them, get it done, and so forth.

Part of the reason why our water and power bills are so low.

Buy European- AEG or a better brand from the De Longhi Group.Or a Maytag.
Anything but F&P which are crap disposables and sell to blindly patriotic NZ'ers and people impressed by flashing lights.

Don't confuse the 30 year old, basic,F&P appliance with the modern"full unnecessary of electronic shit" appliance of today.
My AEG has a couple of switches and a mechanical timer.
I'm an electronic service tech by trade.

Normal wash on mine is 97 minutes, so I'd say yeah. My old F&P was faster because it was connected to hot water only, but it cost more to run.
