View Full Version : Truck roll over!!
Crazy Steve

This accident was caused by a motorcyclist today....
He or she cut this truck off in mercer and the truck rolled over..
I almost wish the scrap metal that the truck was carring had landed on the fcker riding the bike...In stead it poured all over state hgwy one!!!
There were huge delays...:(

how is the driver? do we know who the biker was?
I hope theres noyone on here capable of such stupidity?

The driver made a statement to the police that a motor cycle screamed up on the inside of him and his truck...He had to turn sharply to avoid killing the rider...
I spoke to the driver and Im sure it the same fcker that has riden past me a couple of times on the way to Auckland and cut me off and given me the bird as hes ridden past....

Sounds weird.....
truck got cut off by a bike......
and that looks like a pretty narrow road.....
from my observations of the pic it looks like the truck was too fast for the turn and fell over......

so the green commie is a cop car, noted for sat!
plus if the bike came up the inside wouldn he have to swerve to the right taking him on to the grass and loading the left tyres instead of the right?

That's what I was thinking. Maybe the bike cut him off and he locked up the tires in a panic reaction trying to stop quikly and then had to turn it to keep on the road and then lost it? Most truckers are relativly calm in situations like that. Something to do with the fact that in a wreck it's not likely to be them that gets hurt. I don't know aslong as no one was hurt I guess it doesn't matter. Kinda worrysom that there is a biker out there with this kind of disrespect forhis or anyone elses life. Maybe R|T@L|N has moved up to Auckland?

The road just south of mercer?? Just a typical SH1 goat track!
Some of those scrap trucks look like they have a pretty high cntre of gravity, wouldn't take a lot to tip one over. Thank god no-one got squished.....

yeah i recon it might be an excuse for a truck driver taking the corner too fast. Happens often, and they dont exactly take it easy with the trucks,
I was joining onto the motorway the other day from silverstream to upper hutt, and stayed in the lane (right) as they merge shortly after you get on. was going 80 as am on my learners and wasnt in a hurry and as the middle stripes dissapeared and the lanes merged i almost got hit by a truck with two long trailers passing me on my left.
-the lanes were merged and narrowing at the time he started overtaking
-he was bloody long and i had to break to avoid going into oncoming trafic
if the guy who rolled was in a similar hurry i wouldnt be surprised if it was just one of em "ghost bikes"

Lol Happens sometimes even with normal cages. Funny how when a biker is there it's "oh sorry I didn't see you" and yet when there isn't one it's "Damn biker cut me off!!"
Nah Steve I need to see the skids marks preferably looking down the direction the truck was headed.

Is it a cop car, guy by it is wearing jeans (yeah could be a witness etc) but it has a strange number plate, at least for a cop car.

Stevo
12th May 2005, 01:33
I generally show truckers the most respect on the road as they do likewise (generally) to me whether caging or riding. In saying that I gave a bird to a truck driver Friday week ago who wouldn't pull across on the Hundalees (south of Kaikoura) and he had to very ignaorant cagers following behind so I simply could not and really didn't want to get in amonst it all so when I could get past all three I wound the 6 hundy out and pulled the finger at the bastard! Wanker.
Not all of them are good considerate truck drivers but down this way most are!

looking at the way the right hand wheels have locked and the radius of the skid, it looks more like the driver has gone into the corner too hot and farqed up..... the trailer was already on its way over.... how come no skid on the left side ?? it ends before the cop car... it would be the first side to lock up due to having no weight or traction... why? coz the wheels weren't on the ground!!! he'd been way farqed up before any bike came along!
cops prolly reckon his bike story is BS too!

Yeah well we all know it's not possible for any motorcyclist to behave in such a careless manner that would cause an accident, they're all perfect angels on the road, now all those car/truck drivers thats another story most of them are barely competent to start the car let alone drive it.
Now can someone remind me how many single rider bins have there been amongst the members on this site?
White trash
12th May 2005, 07:44
......some little fucker on a recently imported 600 Supersport machine is already giving himself a bad name in Wellington.
You're a member of this site, I know that, you also ride like a fuckwit in traffic and coming from me, that's saying something.
Stay the fuck away from me on the road mate and if you want to show how good you can ride, I'll meet you at a track day, arsehole.
That looks like the new merge lane heading north at the Mercer centre,it's not a smooth transition and you can see it's off camber. It can be taken faster than the old entry lane, which is still there, but if the driver was commited to the new lane he'd have to take it,he'd never stop in time for the old lane.I can see a bike wanting to get to the merge lane before the truck,it's a nice corner and can be taken fast...a bike trying to take the curve fast...a fully laden truck trying to get up speed for SH1....disater.

it's 'ten 2 a 1 victor' - cop speak for 'going to a crash'. it's not a cop car. it's operated by a truck recovery firm, who principally work with insurance companies. they used to have a black v8 commie wagon with those plates on it.
he is at most truck crashes within about a 100k radius of auckland.
marty
12th May 2005, 08:49
it's normally a 100km sign to allow safe merging there - heading north onto the mercer motorway. i think they are resealing 1/2 a k north of there at the moment. note the TEMP sign under the 8

The Speedo is a standard one it just has an 8 tacked onto it. They sometimes do that at construction areas when a permenent speed sign is near where the construction zone begins. I don't think that's for the turn though. 80k's is a bit fast for a turn like that for anything other than a bike.

Truckies are some of the most considerate drivers I encounter on the road, so perhaps the ones you come across just hate Guzzis? I've even had them indicate to me that it is safe to pass when I can't see far enough - mind you I am always very wary of this, they could be doing it to get rid of me once and for all! But seriously, I have found most truckies to be really good to riders, but don't get me started on tossers who drive horse floats - man, I know they have precious cargo on board, but they are some of the most inconsiderate sods around. They NEVER move over, even when it is safe for them to do so, and if you try and pass, they get really shitty. Oh, and I hate taxi drivers too...
BTW, I assume it's to do with the number of posts I've made, but I really resent being called Scooter Boy - one, I don't ride a scoot, and two, I ain't a boy!

You get some good and some bad ones...problem with trucks is that they're obviously huge and cumbersome and have the potential to wreak havoc if out of control...like the $%^&'r I encountered on SH2 one day, fishtailing out of a left hander as I was approaching it. It took him about 100m or more to bring it back in line...possibly the single scariest moment I've ever had on a bike. If he'd cocked up, jack knifed and slid towards me, I think I'd have headed for the bushes to avoid certain death. Not that I haven't gotten a bit loose in a car or on a bike before...but not in such a way as to endanger oncoming motorists like that. Some of them do seem to be a bit unfussed about their responsibilites when driving their machines, when they're the ones who arguably most need to be.

id say the bike might have come up on the inside of the corner and the trucky freaked out and locked the brakes up. however the inside wheels will lock up first so they must have been off the ground. who knows. i bet you what ever happened the trucky shit himself.

Ditto for my experience. Probably less than 5% of the truck drivers I come across whilst on the bike are ignorant, white line hoggers, the rest pull over enough for me to get past. :niceone:
And the ones that give you a left turn signal to let you know it's clear to pass are the tops! You have to be careful if they're flicking a right hand signal at you, because that's what they use to greet other trucks coming towards them!!

We don't want to be a pain, so we usually pull over when we can. And those of us who also ride get a wee buzz out of watching fellow riders zoom past!

I agree. Used to drive 50000 klicks+/year for work.the truckies were to best/most considerate road users, though the exceptions to be wary of were small trucks and rental trucks
I've just come north tonight and decided to cut through Mercer to have a look at the corner - it's blocked off with cones. There is one hell of a kick up onto this entry road from the old road...I don't really think this bit is properly finished, specialy as the old entry to SH1 is still opperating. If he had to turn away from his course to avoid a bike, then tried to come back on course it would send a truck over easy. It's a faster entry to SH1 than the near stop of the old lane,a loaded truck would use the faster lane for sure....and as I said in an earlier post, once commited he would have no time to stop for the old entry lane.
