with acc levies going up and all
I have bought another bike same model 10 years younger un registered import
no great changes in looks etc
What probs do you see if i change the plates over and ride the newer one and update the WOF and rego on the older one
As I do not ride at 120 KM/hr plus i have yet to be pulled up
As ever i await you helpful posts with interest

It would be easy to do and get away with; unless you have a serious accident or there is a radom check of some kind that will leave you in heaps of trouble.

If the law was changed to rego the person for any vehicle on the basis that you can only drive/ride one at a time.............................................. ..

Wont it get kind of interesting when you get the "old" bikes WOF renewed later on and the mileage is negligable?

Oh, and don't get caught!

Too risky: me thinks :o

You need to look at the bigger picture. It will effectively void your insurance (assuming you are insured).

Worth the risk? Your choice.

Easy enough to do, just do it at your risk...

it's essentially bike conversion and is pretty illegal, ..... if you get caught :D

Its about as ethical as the ACC levies increase. Yeah I would go for it.

go for it, hypothetically as far as they can be concerned its the same bike, only you have rebuilt it 100%.

You had some bad luck- a crack in the old frame meant a replacement was needed, shortly afterwards the engine dropped a valve and was deemed beyond economical repair.....

The VIN plate is only fitted with two pop rivets. You take it off the old bike and fit it on the new one. Swap the plates over. And when you go for WOF you show the VIN plate and they do not even care. And jonbuoy's option works well too. If you swap one at the time (frame/motor) If you swap both at same time they at times want to see them. Or at least a report from a shop. But don't let that stop ya...

do it, you wont get caught. it wont void your insurance either. (unless a mechanical issue causes the accident due to having no wof - but wofs are cheap so u can have both bikes woffed)

how does paying for a wof and rego make it cheaper? you are only riding one bike?

how about putting rego on hold..........don't give the bastards any money

Police only really check the rego plate so if it looks as it should i doubt you will get in trouble, same with an accident, they only record the rego of the crashed vehicle so its likely you would get away with it, however, if caught you are looking at a fraud charge, technicly your rego plate is a legal document and using that document to deceive for your own gain is a no no, all said in done id do it if the bikes were identical.

No you must not do this. It is quite wrong and illegal. So you must be very careful that if you remove the number plates assemblies of both bikes for cleaning ( as of course you occasionally do) that you get them back on the right machines. Otherwise you might do this completely inadvertently and innocently. Especially if both bikes are the same colour, which would make it very difficult for even the most helpful police officer to aquaint you with your error.
