Glenn Skachill hit James Smith causing them both to fall in race 1, I have been told by a reliable source that MNZ are seriously considering suspending James' licence for misconduct for turning in on Glenn.

Also Smithy got a time penalty for jumping the start but MNZ may reverse this decision to make up for the misfortune he had in race 1. WTF?

That would be the biggest load of horse shit that could ever happen. I have talked to Glen, and he will admit it here, that it was his fault. Neither rider is holding grudges, it was a very unfortunate racing incident.

I know! But there are important differences as follows,

1) A realisation that you have actually done something wrong

2) Humility ( rather than denial )

3) Apology

Glen doesnt make a habit of this, what is done is done and he had the total good grace to be genuinely upset at his mistake and to apologise. I saw the pain in his face and to be honest he has gone up further in my estimation. He is now clearly the best 600 class rider in NZ and he deserves full distributor backing.

On a related subject I have to agree with Mike Wilkins sentiments at the shambles that was the prizegiving and am kicking myself for also not getting up and challenging the farce that was unfolding in front of us.
Although my sentiments are very much in the Smith and Skatchill camps events that unfolded clearly gave Nick the points lead and the championship, in spite of ongoing appeal actions. Nick should have had his moment of glory and been able to thank his supporters and sponsors. Also for all of the other classes that preceded the 600 riders being called up.
The light was indeed running out because of all the stoppages during the day, and hindsights a fine thing. BUT, there were a load of generators there and doubtless an appeal could have been made for some loan of lighting as someone in the pits would have had in their kit. It still would have looked VERY unproffessional but all the sponsors, supporters and helpers would have been able to be rightfully thanked.

While I agree Glen S is indeed a fantastic rider with huge talent, a great guy, a good mate and a good role model that will grow to be a huge success in motorcycle racing...most likely internationally, I think we need to give Nick C the credit he deserves...he is NZ number 1 and he earned that title through fantastic riding, massive dedication, support and skill...this would make him the best NZ 600SS rider in NZ I would say.

On you other points I have to agree entirely...the prize giving was embarrassing and all excuses in the world would not be good enough to cover up the idiocy that unfolded at the finale of the supposedly pinnacle of NZ Road Racing! What a laugh!

Of course I'm not very "experienced" so I could be wrong:shifty::p

Yip,I would agree with the bulk of this post,Nick has shown great maturity and kept his goal in sight despite the hurdles he encountered. He came out firing at round 1 and when things didnt workout quite so good at the next 2 rounds,He never gave up,Which paid dividends when the ball bounced his way at the last 2 rounds.Glen had a stellar first up attempt at the Nationals and showed just what a talent he is with some real skill and Im sure hes learnt heaps,If hes still in the country next year and has Chris Osbourne with him,He will be very hard to beat!Good on these two and in fact everybody that participated at National level this year,You guys all need congratulating for the huge effort youve put in,To keep the sport ticking over.

I think it was about 1990 and Errol swaggered up to me in his fuckin green shorts and started yelling and ranting about something unknown to me at all , he didnt accept my not knowing and with a certain amount of anger he stepped alot closer to me with arms waving , this was a silly thing to do to a guy thats 6 foot 2 and trained to repel in a reasonably permanent fassion. After being helped back to his feet he realised he had the wrong bloke and should have been yelling at some dude on bike # 75 and i was #74 lol.

I hear where you are coming from but I firmly believe what I said. Many times I saw evidence that his front end could have worked better than it did, thats a critical appraisal where I have also seen it on some of ''my'' bikes and have then promptly gone in and changed the settings. The Ohlins stuff is as you realise designed to be taken apart rather more easily so you can change the settings. I make no apology whatsoever for saying that the BPF stuff is inherently dodgy. That is why teams such as Factory Honda in MotoGB rejected their Showa BPF forks, also Suzuki in WSBK etc. The idea isnt so bad but the production application is full of issues.

So Im biased....

Nick did deserve the title and he is a truly brilliant rider to overcome any shortcomings, whatever they may be.

(and he pissed all over the ohlins clad bikes)

What was in the rear of his bike?
Who emphatically won the very last race of the 600cc champs?
Who emphatically won both races at Manfield until the protest?
Who had a 14 point lead going into the last round prior to the protest?
What suspension was fitted to the championship winning Superbike?
'' '' '' '' '' '' '' '' Superstock bike?
'' '' '' '' '' '' '' '' F3 bike?
'' '' '' '' '' '' '' '' Pro Twins bike?
'' '' '' '' '' '' '' '' 125 class bike?
Plus a lot of depth in the subsequent placegetters beyond that, mostly supplied and fettled by CKT. Its easy to concentrate on one rider who already has abundant talent and tenacity ( all kudos to Nick ) but you must also be able to demonstrate a depth of success that extends beyond just one or two riders. The fact of the matter is that this is inarguably a very difficult trade that we are engaged in.

WE DONT HAVE TO OFFER THE GREAT DEPTH OF SERVICE THAT WE DO, AT VERY LOW COST OR PLAIN KIWI GOODWILLl, MOST RACERS ACTUALLY APPRECIATE IT. I think also most racers appreciate dealing with FACTORY TRAINED Ohlins suspension guys that are not full of wild unsubstaniated fantasies / romanticisms and bullshit.

I TAKE NOTHING AWAY FROM NICK, HE IS A NICE GUY, IMMENSELY TALENTED AND FULLY DESERVED HIS TITLE. AND ALL THE VERY BEST TO HIM.

This is just the sort of bullshit posting that typifies some of the comments made in TGWs thread,This person is clearly talking through a hole in their butt as they dont appear too be able to back their statement up with further information.I would ask the moderators to remove this post if it can not be substantiated by the poster!
