View Full Version : Oil levels?

Now I know this is a silly question but I always get confused when checking the oil via the sight glass on the side of the engine.

Is it to be full when the bike is level and standing straight. Or is it based off being on the stand?

Yes silly question and also dangerous not knowing but I thought you guys could help.

Thanks

The answer is check it straight up.

The reason is because vertical (or near vertical) never changes, but the side stand can sag, the height of the suspension will change the amount of lean on the stand, where you're measuring it might be sloped, etc etc.

Just fill it until it shows in the sight glass with the bike on balance-point. You don't need to know how many litres.

Most bikes have it written on the crankcase or case side cover somewhere. It'll be around 3 litres.

Yeap it does. 3.4L I noticed that but again couldn't remember if it was max capacity or fill amount :D
Cheers guys, made my night a lot easier :D

Yep, upright. It should also be checked with the engine warm, but not hot from just having been running (at least according to my manual check it 30 mins after turning it off, and has been at running temperature).
