11 brand new 1975 electric-start Norton Interstate motorcycles, still in the crate and awaiting final assembly! The horde of Nortons came to light recently following the death of the owner of Motoshop Podevyn in Aalst, Belgium. Incredibly, the bikes are just a small part of an even larger collection.

All I can say is FARK.
The trouble is the guys who can afford to buy them will probably never ride them.

Thanks. The thing that bothered me most was the fact that this guy was depriving the roads of so many great bikes.

These bikes have yet to be set up and ridden. I'm sure they'll auction for a lot of cash.

Mind you they will need new tyres and tubes!

That pic of all the unopened packing crates full or Nortons is kind of breathtaking...

Put me down for the JPS. Trouble is, as you say they'll get snapped up by collectors who'll stick 'em away probably still in crates for another 20 years who will then sell them to ANOTHER collector for a small fortune. Nobody that will appreciate them for what they are will get a look in.
How about a KB consurtium?

One of those brand new Nortons at less than NZ$10k would be something I would not be able to resist.

I'd find the money from somewhere!

Like I said on the Bonneville group - They should start them all up and run a book on how long it takes the first one to drop a crank.

>>who'll stick 'em away probably still in crates for another 20 years<<

I think it's the finest looking bike ever - and a Macintosh touched me up around Hampton Downs (Thanks for that Stroudy) but, I've been a riding with Norton owners on occasion since not long after these machines were built. I don't recall one ride where there was not some sort of mechanical misadventure. And I have photos :-P

Triumphs are best, you know the rest!

The new ones look a bit of all right though

Yes Dave, I agree. But I'd still buy one if the price was right and they really are easy bikes to work on. The 1970s was an outstandingly poor manufacturing period for the UK. From what I have read, modern oils are kinder to engines from such an era and also replacing all gaskets from day one is a must do.

If you ride them like a pussy, they're pretty good and that is what I would do.

New Norton looks the bizz:

He obviously thought nothing of the manufacturing output of Japan over the last 45 to 50 years.

lol i think ill go for the cheaper one at 11995 sterling. a guy told me that VAT is 17.5%, so you can minus that, but then nz import charges 18%!. so you'd be looking at 25000$ nz for the sport edition. plus shipping, and then compliance etc here.
I figure they are probably going to sell here for anything between 25-30g.

It sure put a dampener on things. The curtains were open to the idea too - but I told them to pull themselves together.
