Well that's the Brass done and dusted for me  Set off from Rollyberg this morning. First stop Kurow via the Hakataremea Valley/Pass for a pie and fuel. Pie was good but when fueling up I noticed the engine was covered with some strange looking mud  A quick poke confirmed my suspicions that it was oil, but where from?209524 209522 It would appear that when the bike was in for its 36000km service somebody has forgotten to tighten the tappet cover on the front cylinder. Fortunately the Kurow garage had some 4T oil to top up and a litre bottle to get me home. Getting at the tappet's involves removing the fairings, tank and air-box & I was not too keen on doing that at the side of the road.

Perhaps I should have had an inkling all was not right when I checked the tyre pressures last night and saw this 209523 The bike had only been ridden home from being serviced at the bike shop. Somebody forgot to do up the lock-nuts as well.

Frigging annoying when you pay good money for shit service that f**ked up what should have been a great weekend. Some bike shop is not going to have a happy start to their week Tuesday morning. :angry2::mad:

:2guns: don't think i'd like to be in their shoes on Tuesday......
:devil2: you should have raced home and grabbed the trusty grasstracker... that would have got you there :innocent:

I will never understand why people put their bikes/cars in for service just before a big trip...heres a tip, get it serviced a week before the big trip and then use it for the days prior, any 'problems' will show up sooner rather than later. I work in the motor trade and it amazes me how a car's engine is rebuilt and the owner MUST take it on a trip to the North Island even before it is actually ready to go...i.e before it has been properly tested by the tech that did the work. And what pisses me off even more is the Service Manager lets them go!!!! Invariably there is a 'teething problem' on their first leg of their journey and their trip is ruined. If only they had given us time to test it we would have found the problem and sorted it. So PLEEEEEEEASE have the service done with plenty of time to spare!!! Rant over. Thank you.

Very true. I find it usually takes a couple of days of tinkering to put my bikes right and fix them up again after getting them back from a "service".

:bs: i have to say on this munter you are spose to be professionals at your trade & people pay good $$ for the service,

how ever, I can agree on the engine rebuild bit

FFS!
I expect consistent reliable service when I get work done on my bikes, why should it be my job to check for unacceptable mistakes?
Testing/checking should be part of the service, end of story

Believe this is the expectation timg and a lot of the rest of us have....

I'm with you on this Hot . I do all my own servicing . double check my work , test ride, then recheck bolts etc, don't get many second chances on bikes...... That is shit TIMG, shop concerned should rectify problems and refund the service charge. Remember couple years ago a nelson helicopter mechanic was taken to court and convicted for failing to recheck and sign off his work. the said helicopter lost a rotor blade i think, about 2hours after its service while pilot and shooter were deer hunting, both were killed. .......loose bolts.

Done once ,done right.

Well got back to chch , still dry under my one piece rain suit , pretty miserable towards the end, just hanging out for a hot shower:yes:

Awesome brass monkey for me , left a day late, but great ride down on saturday, a wave from a cop, couple hot pies , some nice snow pics, then a final blast into ranfurly.

snow, icing on the cake!! pitched the tent under a clear sky and sun shining. then off for a great night , chatting ,fire watching and star gazing......

pretty crook this morning so a slow start, few riders arsed off leaving the site, but I had no probs, with usual helping hand from others to get me rolling, cheers guys.

Some good bikes there to ,sure more pics to come, stretched quad with a bath tub, chainsaw powered mtb and the indian themed dirt bike come to mind.
next year? maybe.....but hopefully on a adv bike by then:yes:

Wow, last week was the Brass, where everyone froze there Arse.
Another Monkey, totally Funky.
Making mine nine, its a sign.
Next be ten, ten, ten!!!!

The trip was a blip, Stoppin at BP, no bike oil slick.:shit:
From Rolly, no need for a brolly.

Oamaru, did not pass thru.
A late lunch, past brunch. God damn the soup filled the belly of I, and two girls Sally and Kelly:Punk:
A TLS I must confess rode with us though to Palmaston, a lot of fun.

The pig route...struth. The light so bright, Snow so low.
Could not see, so cold, all I wanted was to Pee.
Ranfuly, goal not to hurley.
From the camp to the pub, for some grub.
A few drinks........ I think?:innocent:

Sat mornin, the ice was nice.
Rode to the Site.... Shite!!!!
Plenty of snow to throw...
Pitch my tent, excellent.
A few drinks, and a feed indeed.
Snow so thick, never saw any "grass"
At least -4, cooor!!!!!

Sunday mornin, we all be yawnin.
Mighty cold, yet must be bold.
Headin to Fox, hopin for no wet sox.
Problem was, we became cast before Haast.
Snow made the road a no go.
Makarora, one of us was a snorer!!!
The rain was insane, those clouds were to blame.
Monday came after Sunday,
The road had plenty of grit, what a shit.
From 5 to three we rode with glee, to fox. Must have good shocks.

10k from Hoki, I was not hoki doki, they went pas' cause I ran out gas.
miSta was not stink, for he gave me bike some stuff to drink.
Hoki, we got, over Arthers worth a shot.
As we were makin a dash, a copper flicked us a flash. No stop, nice cop.

It got mighty dark, fark.
A pee between the seas at Arthers.
We orter get to Porters.
Some sleat fell, ring a bell, 3 degrees we were starting to freeze.
Sneeze.

At last back at me crib into bed I slid.
And that was that, the monkey I DID!!!!!!!!!!:Punk::Punk::wari:

Was the bestest Monkey so far for me.

Wednesday. Left late and in the wets.

Thursday . Wets stayed on till Kaikoura. 1st time I had seen the 3 fords closed ever. Also not able to get a crayfish at the beach caravans. Showed the Mista household a bit of culture.

Friday. Travel with the Canterbury rabble to Oamaru for good lunch Thanks Mike and Vicky.Hard case dog thought he was great.
Over Pig route 1st time seen snow down to the roadside and the sunstrike. High five with Mike while passing a scooter. Lots of scooters this year. Good on them. Wouldn't mind trying it myself. Made it to the Ranfurly cabins for the adult version of Big Brother.

Saturday. 1st time arrived to the site covered in 4 inches of snow. Brilliant warm day.

Sunday. Left in wets for lunch with some of the rabble at Makaroa. Should have skipped lunch and beat the 50 cent piece sized snow flakes that turned us back at the Blue Pools, for a night at Makaroa A framed cabins. Thanks to Richard for negotiating .17 cents each off our overnight stay.

Monday. Made it throught to Haast, probably could have done it on the Sunday in hindsight. Finally got a crayfish. At a cost of 4 Magnum icecreams. Extravagant I know but we were worth it.Made it to Ross for the night.Fark she weren't happy getting a ticket trying to catch a Harley. Ma ears are still ringin.

Tuesday. Froze going through St Arnard. Picton for the night.

Wednesday. Home through the Parapara's and more signs of heavy recent snowfall from Raetahi onwards.
