I need to talk to someone involved in CAMS

Hi. I want to race my zxr400 in CAMS pre89s, but I don't know if my bike is eligible as it has a race fairing modelled around a zx6r. The email address on their website doesn't seem right as I keep getting email delivery failure. Does anyone know who I need to ask about this and how to get hold of them? Cheers.

MNZ will have contact numbers for the CAMS guys but do remember a few things
1) There are now pre 89 rules i the MNZ rule book for the whole country, it's not just a club thing now as to what the rules are.
2) there are a number of variations of ZXR400's. I can't remember model codes but ONLY the early ones are actually eligible. I think they are the H model, but the short story is the "ebox" frame model. Anything later is persona non grata. There was a big debate of ZX6R bodywork on ZXR400's for postie racing last year on here, do a search, well worth a read.

This is the rule from MNZ...
25.2.6 Fairing
Fairing and streamlining is permitted if they are of the type and style in keeping with
the period of competition.
I guess the letter of the law would suggest I'm outta luck as the 'style' is too modern for the period. If this is the case I guess I'll have to find an old fairing from somewhere,.

Ok, I think I'm sorted on this now. I found the thread where KB member neil_cb125t had the same issue and was given the green light by NZPC to run on the newer fairings. Let the fun begin!

hi there,

unfourtunately that light went out - i was given the green light as they were discussing it. then they decided NO. I ran the same fairings for 3 years, when i started to DESTROY post classics, like beating the SENIOR 1100cc boys.... people started to get all shitty.

the short story its not worth it....

let me know if you want any advice or hints re the 400 - we have a good combo going at the moment....

Boy, did we have some issues on that one!!!!

As Neil has offered some advise, get in touch.... And he can easily advise you on how to set up the fairings in case you want to enter two classes during the day..... You need a bloody good crew if you want to go down that path though.... (Now where is the icon for the trumpet??)

Although CAMS is a fairly relaxed club it is still a classic and period racing class club.Eligibility is an often mentioned word at committee meetings and will continue to be. We are also a race for fun club, and are probably more suited to those who wish to race in the spirit of the period they choose to race in. MNZ has a set of rules covering all classes and as an affiliate of MNZ we should abide by the rules as set out.With the classes we race , it should not be that difficult to fit into the class rules. If someone does have a gripe, they are well within their rights to complain and if their gripe proves right we would have to take action. I suppose it comes back to the ethos of why we race period machinery...myself, I waited so long for Pre 89 to happen, that when it did finally arrive I was feeling too old and tired to race one, and Pre 82 was a bit of a wait too. Period racing is a bit of a patience game, if it aint period you have to wait til it is...but yes, we like to be a laid back club, lifes too short to be pissed off all the time

We have over the last few meetings , sometimes run the smaller capacity Pre 82 bikes with Pre 72, and likewise with the larger capacity Pre 82 machines in with the Pre 89s, and this seems to have caused a small amount of confusion. This is purely something we have done on club days and it has been done for two reasons,the speed differential between the big and the small and sometimes just to get either of the classes on the track with enough machines in them to make it worthwhile racing the class. eg, often only two or three Pre 72s will turn up on a club day while maybe twenty five Pre Pre 82s take the grid. It seems more appropriate to run the under 500cc Pre 82s , like my 73 GT250 Suzuki or the RD 250's who are going to get hammered all day by the GS 1000,s etc with the Pre 72's just so all concerned get a bit of fun racing in. I hope this helps to put CAMS rules on club days into perspective

The nice thing about the Posties class , is not that isnt really that many rules, and the ones that are there are relaivley specific to make and model etc. There will always be those that beg to differ on some subjects though aye Neil !,
