Hello lovely people.

I'm grinning from ear to ear. I have just passed my full license!

Was a bundle of nerves this morning, and had a few issues before the exam. But all went very smoothly indeed and I made it!!! I'm simply thrilled and rather proud of myself. This is something that I never thought I would do. And all of a sudden the wonderful world of motocycling has taken me by storm.

I have never been so happy or excited, what an incredible world I seemed to have discovered.

And the bonus of no more tests really is quite lovely. Pressure off, now it's my time to relax, enjoy, upgrade and live it up a little! Not mention, have some serious fun.

Today, is a very good day. :woohoo:

A very good feeling indeed. Feel like a proper grown up. There was actually only 2 sections of hazard detection. And being sleepy upper hutt, there was very little going on at the time.

Yay!!! Thank you everyone. You really are all such a wonderful bunch, and very supportive.

Its such a minor thing to achieve in the scheme of things, but for me its huge. I told my grandma (89) today and she just couldn't believe that I had done it. If you new me on a personal level you would know that it really is one of the biggest things I have done, and nothing has ever brought me as much happiness as riding a motorbike.

So thanks - you all bloody rock, and I can't wait to organise some big rides with ya all.

I hope you had enough left from selling the house to get some nice leathers to go with it.

- Simon (Gini's husband)

haha just because the house is gone doesn't mean I am in the clear. Just no mortgage now so everything is sooooo much more manageable. Leathers will have to wait, the cordura will have to see me through the winter.

I went for a ride tonight on the Thursday Night ride... just for a very quiet pootle at the back. Had an absolute ball. I'll be taking it very very easy on this for a good wee while and will book into Karel Pavich's last training session at manfield in May. There she and her fellow instructor's wills help me to change how I ride, how I handle the R6 and what focus I should have. Simply can't wait!

The ride so far? Wowie - I tell ya, I can't stop grinning from ear to ear. From a nervous take off every time, trying to gently (haha gently on an R6?) find the right revs, taking a good few seconds to find where the hell the bloody pegs are. What do you mean they are not out in front of me anymore? But then I sit so very comfortably on it, and I love love love the riding position. The clutch will take me a while to get used to, and it will take me a long time to get past my block on lean angle mid corner. But as soon as she heads into a corner, that smile grows without encouragement, and I know that I made the right choice. It's so light, I can shift my weight so easily on it. I can step off the side of it and push it around. Wow - that's new. Couldn't do that with the M50 (successfully, we all know how that story ends).

I love the revs, its peppy, yet doesn't have to be a cheetah after its prey. I love the weight, the position, the lack of scrapping. I love the colour - yes, I even kept going back to look at that one over other colours. I have transfered my smiley face from Karels first training session onto the rev counter (woo hoo its got a rev counter!) and each time I glance down, I am reminded to smile that cheeky smile, look up and ahead, relax and focus.

Seriously... I think I am in love. I will be doing my first road trip on the up to Taupo in the next month of so. So many people have told me how sore I'll be. But, already I am getting less pain and pressure than I have on the Bully, and think I will get used to the new riding position just fine.

Excited much? Hell yes. My settlement from my house selling and past relationship comes through tomorrow after a 12 month battle. I will be working my 2 jobs for the day and night, traveling by bike if the weather is kind enough, then popping my bottle of champers after the show about 10.30pm. What a week. What a month, and my goodness what a year. But, this is it. It all becomes the past as of tomorrow, and my friends, not a day will go past when I will not be smiling both inside and out. I am more alive than I have ever been. I have my spark back. I can't shake this silly grin... Happiest chick in the world i reckon. I have my two beautiful dogs, the best of friends and a scrumptious family, and the R6 to get my heart racing like it never has before.

What a ride so far... now bring on tomorrow! :done:

Hi All - thanks for the concern. As you prob all know - our dear wee katie pie had an off in the Rapa on Sunday. Unfotunately the injuries etc meant she was not in a position to work out where she was. After spending five hours lying injured, off the road, she was found by emergency services at 9.30 and choppered to wellington hospital. She has a broken back, broken neck, broken arm AND broken leg, and a glorious case of gravel rash taking most of the skin of her broken leg.
BUT - you all know our mate well - her spirit is not broken. She will make a full recovery albiet a long slow one. She is known for her patience, so she will survive the recovery, cos she sure as hell survived a horrendous crash.
I spent most of monday at hospital with her and her moments of lucidity were filled with comments about the gorgeous surgeon who operated on her!!
Katie is still pretty out of it, dealing with injuries and a lot of pain. Praise the lord for morphine.
If any other details are required please feel free to pm me and i will reply where appropriate, and will be passing on all your messages of concern.

Faark I read this on the xtra news this morning , never thought it was a kb'r.

A dazed and seriously injured woman used her dying cellphone to aid rescuers' frantic search for her after she crashed her motorbike and had no idea where she was.

The 26-year-old crashed her 600cc Yamaha near Carterton, fell three metres down a bank, hit a barbed wire fence and landed in grass.

She called an ambulance at 7.40pm on Sunday, an hour after she crashed, Constable Jill Flower of Carterton police said. "She may have been confused, she didn't know where she was, and there was quite an impact," she told The Dominion Post.

Her call sparked a search involving police, fire crews, ambulance and the Westpac rescue helicopter.

Carterton fire chief Wayne Robinson said the rescue was a race against time as light faded.

The woman talked to ambulance staff on her phone, then by text, as her battery ran low.

New information about the woman's route led to the biggest breakthrough.

At first rescuers were told she was heading towards Carterton, from Gladstone, but they were later told she might have been riding to Greytown, Mr Robinson said.

The woman was found at 9.15pm and was flown to Wellington Hospital with a deep cut on her leg, and serious neck and back injuries.

The woman, understood to be from Upper Hutt, had surgery at Wellington Hospital yesterday.

Went and saw her yesterday too and had a funny conversation with her. Typical Katie, more worried about the dogs than herself so after me and Drew had done a few wheelies in the two person/one fat person wheelschair, went and fed the pooches.

Hang in there luv, alot of people are here for ya and thinking for ya.

Not the time or the place, you obviously know nothing of her reason or on what recommendation she bought her bike. Needless to say it was fully her decision DESPITE a hell of a lot of advice suggesting she try something different. Pull your head in please.

Hey - where the hell did that come from. I think thats way out of line. You know nothing about this. Katie was not fuelled on by anyone apart from herself to buy this bike. She spent a lot of time researching and riding different bikes. Its a smaller cc rating then her previous. She may not have had it that long, but she has been riding it very carefully and cautiously, getting the feel for it, the different riding style, position, power etc. She had also booked herself in for a pro rider day at Manfield. What happened on Sunday was a bloody accident, and a bloody awful one which could have happened to any of us.

Secondly no one knows what happened and from what I've heard we may never know thats up to Katie if she remembers and wants to tell! End of speculation OK!!!

yes, it was an accident. a horrible accident but some poeple need to open their eyes and shut their mouths.

it was a cruiser for god sakes! you can not compare a new r6 to that! that just shows how ignorant you are. it doesn't matter how many ride days and courses you do its your personal experiance that matters. and you can't say that all the attention she was getting from all these men and the comments they all made had NOTHING to do with her decision. again, proving your ignorance.

quite frankly I am just relieved she had her cell could make the call then was found & will recover .. catch up soon chick & take the time it takes to heal :)

I was at the first pro-rider course she did, when her M50 was less than a week old.

Everybody there was impressed with how well she handled the bigger bike, and her general skill.

I have read many of her adventures since that day, and had little doubt that she would make a successful transition from the cruiser to the sportsbike, providing she took her time with it.

We don't know what happened, and may never know. What is important right now is that Katie keeps her spirits up and recovers quickly.

No need to hate.

Let's not play the blame game or speculate as to how Katie came to end up as she did. Accidents often have causes other than ones which some may think obvious and sometimes have nothing to do with either the bike or the rider. Our thoughts should be focused on the future, rather than on the past.

I spent several hours with Katie this afternoon.

Wow, her spirit is one tough cookie. Smiling and joking (I asked if she had any hot nurses!) Mostly annoyed at not being able to move. Busted to bits but still smiling.

She is worried about work  her dogs and nana more than herself which just goes to show how caring she is. It'll be a while before she is healed and I told her she has a few hundred post on her facebook to reply to. Also while I was there I checked her phone for her but it is to overloaded with texts and needs to be read and deleted before anymore will be received.

She told me her hardest fight is yet to come...

...Convincing her parents to let her ride again!!!

Pretty terrible turn of events, when I read this I had a sinking feeling that it was a KB'er - get well soon Katie, best of luck convincing your parents and all that lark  You've done a fair cracker job on your body by the sound of it, but so long as the spirit is intact all can be mended :grouphug:

Your continued great attitude is an inspiration katiepie - http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4798112/You-ve-made-my-day-crash-victim-tells-rescuers ... and I love that your mum knows you are old enough to make up your own mind!!!

After any accident ... or incident people worry ... especially when they haven't fully understood the risks of being a rider. But you know its ok for them to worry it just shows the love that they have for you.

I only started reading page 3 this morning when Katiepie had got her new bike. I was getting excited for her and wanting to read more. I almost wish I hadn't.

I'm gutted that I can't say "I'm glad you're not too badly hurt"!

I'm gutted that I was laughing and smiling at page 3, when all was not good further in the thread.

I am however glad that you have spirit Katie and it wasn't worse!

I've only met you a couple of times Katie (most recently about 2 hours before your accident), but you're held in high regard by Jimmy and Drew and I've heard a lot about you from those reprobates! As soon as they heard they dropped everything to rush to your bedside - don't think the lawns will be finished for some time now, lol.
Was very saddened to hear of your mishap, but I'm really pleased to hear that you're in good spirits - that will go a long way to helping with your recovery. All the best hun. Our house is wheelchair accessible, so if the hospital gets too much for you in the next few weeks Jimmy and Drew can kidnap you and bring you back here for a wee shindig for a few hours! You wont mind travelling in the back of the TSS work truck will you? They've got heaps of tie downs to make sure you stay in place!

Well - thats our girl aint it - always thinking of other people. Even as they were wheeling her into surgery, she was thanking them for all they were doing. But great to see that cheeky grin taking up most of page 3

There has been talk of doing a fund raising ride at some stage for the Lifeflight Trust (and others) so this is one way we can all do a little to help the people who are out there helping us when we are at our most vulnerable.

We all like to help people we know when things go bad... rather than flowers or chocolates, how about a whip around to help pay for the insurance excess for her R6? I'd be keen to contribute and collect on behalf.

Edit: or the other option is to obtain her bank a/c details and people can just direct credt her account.

First of all, poor Katie! that’s so horrible! Hope you get better fast!
second, hope all you testosterone fuelled dickheads(on other sites as well) are proud of yourselves for egging her on to buy a powerful bike which she had little or no experience with. how pathetic. now look, the poor woman is in hospital and won’t be riding for ages!
hope you're all happy with yourselves.

wooo dude that's a bit OTT. The way I read Kitie's post she got the bike SHE had been dreaming of and very one was encouraging her to take it easy for a while, which she was doing.
At the moment we don't know how it happened and I for one will wait on Katie to post on that subject.
At least we agree on hoping she recovers fast.

Ok Cheshire ,
I have knowin Katie for over 10years now & what I have learnt about her is that she does not try to impress people with with objects , If you look back through the posts on KB she has also done her research on bikes it was not a case of hey lets get a 600cc bike so I can go hard out & try to impress the boys , & as it has been stated before we dont know what happend but the 1 thing that I can tell you is that "I" dont believe that she was doing anything stupid , she is a safe rider .

Smiffy, you're wrong.
That was the 2nd one she did. The first was on her little Keeway cruiser thing.

Katiepie, sorry to hear about your accident, heal well. Maybe you'll be able to eat a bit more than usual - you're gonna need to, to aid the healing process.

Take care, you have my #, and if you're in Auckland, you still owe me a ride.

In regards to this, are her family down with her at the moment? (sorry, haven't read all of the thread after Smiffy's reply hehe) - and what is happening with her pups?

Hey all. Spent the afternoon with Katie.
When I arrived lunchtime, she was looking so good compared to when i last saw her on Monday. She had great colour in her checks, was very bright eyed and chatty. Mid afternoon they came to put on her back brace. This is a rigid plastic thing that completely covers her upper torso and attaches to the neck halo. They have said that once she had this on, she would be be able to start thinking about sitting up and moving around etc. Unfortunately the efforts of them putting on the brace really knocked her around and wore her out. She is very vulnerable and will be for a long time.
So - its good to visit, but please dont wear her out, keep the visits short and sweet. Her recovery process will be a long one so theres plenty of time to see her.

Now - I did broach the subject of flower money instead being KP insurance excess money, or whatever, and she didnt really want to do that. But - i suggested she think about it for a day or two first before making a final decision.
Or we can just do it regardless - present her with a fait accompli . Personally - I think we should just do it.
I printed off all the messages pm'd to me and read them to her. She was mighty touched with the care and concern from the KB family. So thank you to all of you from KatiePie
Cheers - Carla

:woohoo:

First I read this!

So... guess what guys 'n gals?

:woohoo:

Was wanting to wait til next Wednesday and just turn up on the ride on it, but I'm simply bursting with excitement and have to spoil the suprise.

Then I read this!

Then I read this! http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4798112/You-ve-made-my-day-crash-victim-tells-rescuers

Now I am in shock!

Don't know you in real life Katie but you are so full of life in your KB posts and you have been so excited about your progress as a motorcyclist and in buying your new bike, "I" was even enjoying reading about it and going along with you!

Hang in there kid, it might seem all bad at the moment but I believe you have what it takes to get right through this and get back up where you want to be!

All the best from us oldriders and keep on posting your progress as you fight your way back!

Cheers and all our  Pip and John oldrider. (KB) :ride:

The Bergs are tied up with a 40th (not telling who's:innocent:) this weekend but would be happy to help in any way. Mr Berg knows something of the suffering our poor Katiepie will go through and the shear frustration:brick: involved in healing from such an injury.
We would be over the moon if somebody was to organise a ride not only for Katie but also for the awesome folks at the rescue helicopter unit in Wgtn.
Due to my job I work in closely with them and they are an awesome bunch who excel at helping those in need:yes:.
I have faith that Katiepie's amazingly positive attitude will see her well on the road to recovery but ensure she knows she has full support from those of us who have been there as well:hug::love:.

Recognised the bike from this thread in the news today.

All the best for a full and speedy recovery!

After years or riding all those Rapa roads I would have to admit I would struggle to name any of them or give clear directions as to where I was! Could happen to any of us.

Same here for half the roads I go and get lost on, plus the fact a lot do not have Cell reception. Maybe time for a PLB? (http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=101)

Like this only probably more restrictive for her and the first few fittings are exhausting, too. Good thing Summer's over...

both you and KatiePie are blessed with Technology advances ... I remember two summers were my mum was fitted with a fully body cast and at least one of those through a summer!

Katy ... heal well ... rest well ... don't go chomping at the bit to do too much too soon!!!

Does anyone know where she was, exactly? I rode from Martinborough up Ponatahi Rd to Carterton late afternoon, hate to think I rode straight past her.

I hope everyone gets to learn everything they can from this.

Yep. We've all learn't that once again you're a total cunt. You don't know what happened. Even Katie doesn't yet. Why don't you leave this site for good. There aren't too many people that'll cry if you do.

This thread has been staying on topic pretty well. Let's keep it that way. If somebody says something that annoys you, it's OK to ignore it.

Hey crasherfromwayback, here's Katie's own words from the paper "It hasn't put me off. I really want to find out what happened, so I can avoid it happening again."
same as Katmans really
how come you're so jumpy?

I've learnt something from her 'off', well actually after her 'off', next shoe phone I buy will have a GPS thingamy on it.
Might even buy a box of flares too!

You KNOW theres gunna be a tellin off tho dontcha, and it dunt matter who it is or how much they're loved, theres still gunna be a tellin' off and thats the way of it. I'm pretty sure those closest to her are plenty qualified to do that so theres only gunna be a frown from me.

Fucken oath mate, I'm now making sure my cel phone is properly charged and in accessable spot whenever I go for a ride. I can't think of anything scarieir than what our little mate went through and doubt very much I'd be as calm or level headed in the same situation.

Glad she had reasonable signal strength
My cell is charged and in the flap pocket of the jacket when on non-commuting rides.
Smart lass. Well done on the rescue to all involved.

Now - I did broach the subject of flower money instead being KP insurance excess money, or whatever, and she didnt really want to do that. But - i suggested she think about it for a day or two first before making a final decision.
Or we can just do it regardless - present her with a fait accompli . Personally - I think we should just do it.

For those interested, Reckless has kindly setup a donation to help pay for expenses for Katie here:
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/136069-Katiepie-donation-thread-(a-Kiwi-Biker-whip-round)

I knew Katie would probably be reluctant at the thought of people offering - but believe me, she will then be humbled then move onto being grateful when she sees the expenses she will have to face in addition to her long recovery.

Easing the financial burden will lower Katie's stress levels and help her healing process.

If you'd ever met Katie, you'd understand why you might want to help her as she makes you feel more positive and happy with life than before.
