did you send one back to customer services to validate it? Bit surprising there isn't more of a fanfare and a FROM name... I don't use iTunes so haven't received one before...

Nah, nothing looks legit about it at all. You might want to go to the iTunes website and see if they've got anything under hoaxes.
I get heaps like that, had one this morning from DHL... which wasn't DHL.
If it were me I'd delete it.

Good idea. Either clever infecting or a 364 - 1 shot. It is my Birthday.

I got one and I dont use iTunes either. straight to the pool room
I got one, ostensibly from gmail, saying they were rearranging their servers and requesting "confirmation" of my login name, password, address, and other stuff - bank account, I think and if I didn't do that, I'd be disconnected in 9 hrs! It all looked very convincing. I just forwarded it to google and deleted it, but, I wonder how many people would have been sucked in?
There's a Paypal one doing the rounds, too
... luckily, with this Rolex that I've got, and my HUGE hard wanger... I don't have to worry about it....
Just today I have received 2 from Trade Me, 2 from Kiwi Bank and one from some random bloke. All with .zip attachments or hyperlinks to follow. Junk mail filter puts them in the trash. I got a couple of DHL ones the other day too.
If it's fake, I'm suprised. Fool-proof email address tho.

Anything unsolicited = junk. For $50 I would check with i-tunes first though. I have lost a computer after the facebook hoax e-mails. Wiped half the registry... I thought I had it cleaned & back up to scratch but the viruses were back within 12 hours. Grrrrrr
i have been getting those plus some from UPS according to xtra they have a virus

I've not received a legit one before so not sure what it should look like, but a zipped attachment doesn't seem right. The instructions from apple to redeem a genuine gift is:
"In the subsequent screen, enter your gift certificate number printed on the front of a paper certificate, or the certificate number in your emailed certificate, in the field."
You would also expect there to be a senders name of someone you know and a personal message.

Check the mail headers?
Looks a bit suspect to me, but I'm a cynical bastard and tend not to believe it when people claim to give me things for free.

My two basic rules for email
1. If I don't recognise sender = delete
2. If I wasn't expecting it = delete
3. If it means work = delete
no problem
Pfft, open it.
What's worst that could happen? Don't you graphics people all run Macs anyway?
Happy Birthday BTW.

That email is like a street walker. It looks promising but all you'll really end up with is a big case of herpes! - Stay away from it!

Cool - gonzo thanks.
I bought me the Anika Moa album anyway.
I am getting a few DHL ones as well.... scanning the attachment with AVG advises it contains a virus...so I delete them.
I got the same one too BD. It's bogus. Showed up on my virus scan.
