Hi guys,

I'm after a new helmet, and am keen on a white one, mainly for visibility.

You'd think this would be easy and I wouldn't have to pay $600+ for one...but no. It appears white is out of fashion at the moment.

Anyone got any idea where I could get a plain white (no tribal crap), good quality helmet for less than $400?

thanks!

Agree there is not much around

The Nolan N103 is available in white

As rachprice says, there are Arai's - but at the usual Arai gouge pricing

You may also find an HJC or similar at the very bottom of the range

I ended up importing a Bell for myself - wouldn't do that if I wasn't sure of the sizing.

Enquire with TSS Red Baron

I got my LS2 helmet from them in white.

You might be better off going for a white with graphics.

Then again I'd doubt the statistics your basing your helmet buying decisions on.

Yeah when I say mainly for visibility what I really mean is that I think plain white helmets look frickin' sweet.....hehe. But then I thought I'd get a barrage of "forget about cool looking helmets, you should find the best fit and protection" etc etc.

Which is true - I just (naively) thought that a plain white helmet would be the most common and therefore cheapest option. Gah.

Eyegasm - thanks for that, I will give them a call!

Funnily enough most car racing helmets are white. There isn't much difference between a single seater helmet and a bike one.

The other option is to get some vinyl and apply a bold pattern yourself. 30min can make a helmet really stand out!

Cambridge do a series of helmets with a 4 or 5 star SHARP rating that are bright multi-coloured helmets. If you were in Auckland I'd tell you to go to Cycletreads.

FFM still do a plain white one, other than that there's not much about. I tried to buy one a while ago to match the wife's white one, gave up and bought a pair instead, my son gets a free helmet (to him) out of the deal

Have you been into Scooterazzi and had a look at their helmets?

Yeah, fit is #1 concern, the road doesn't care what colour it is when you hit it. I went helmet shopping recently, money no object, tried everything, Shoei, Arai, Airoh, came home with a $200 Zeus full face, easily the most comfortable for my bonce AND it had the v cool retractable pilot-style internal sun visor. It has to pass standards to be sold in NZ.

FFM still list the Tourpro II in white at $160 or the Tourpro III in white and red for $179 Your dealer should be able to get it.

Oh how I would love a Simpson! But that's a bit pricey for me. I'm in Wellington - Wellington motorcycles only had black FFMs, Motorad had a white Arai....for $700ish, and Scooterazzi were extremely helpful but still, cheapest white helmet would have been a Nolan at $550.

I will find one! At the moment I may settle for a Silver Oxford OX-2 - they are $99 and beat a whole lot of more expensive helmets (like the Shoei XR-1100) in the SHARP ratings. 4/5 vs 3/5! Bt of course it'll depend on fit. Tried on the FFM helmets - seemed fine but not spectacularly comfy.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

mmm, your quite wrong there, there is a fair bit of difference between a car racing helmet (SA2005 rated) and a motorcycle one, most of all the motorcycle one will be lighter and cheaper for the same brand, basically the car racing helmet is designed to take multipull hits (form a roll cage) and the motorcycle one is designed to take one hit, and there is also the fire proof liner, and impact resistant visor,

it is weird, White helmets stand out a lot more, but black ones outsell them about 10-1,
